Did you get the purple Elantra, by chance? ;)

...or mention they are making $3k either way via rebates.. How do you figure the dealer is making $3k after the rebates? Markup on Sonatas including the holdback isn't anywhere near $3k. And wasn't their quote less than MSRP even before rebates were applied?
Re: USED 2007 Hyundai Sonata 24,150 mi, Dealer asking $12,468 [schumia]

Why do you think it's reasonable to pay the dealer over $1000 more than Edmund's TMV price? If you are serious about this car, you could try a counteroffer of $12k, which includes the doc fee and the Hyundai Certified Warranty. Print out the Edmund's report and show it to them. It's not like there's no used Sonatas out there. FWIW, last spring I was offered a 2008 Sonata GLS with the moonroof package and Hyundai Certified Warranty, 30k miles, for $10,900 + tax and license. I passed on it because the car was not in great condition. I realize used car prices are generally higher now than last spring, but $12,500 seems very high for three-year-old base GLS, considering it probably sold for around $15k or less when new.

If this is a Hyundai dealer, you could ask if the vehicle qualifies for the Hyundai Certified warranty, which would either add five more years of powertrain warranty or extend the bumper to bumper for five more years. I think that is transferrable also.

What I think is that I would have expected a significant discount off list, before rebate, for a car that had been made ten months ago, had been sitting since February, and didn't have proper equipment for the area. Also one that had been used as a demo. But I live in an area with 8 dealers within an 80 mile radius. You might not have that level of competition in Fresno. Given the choice between the stripped Elantra for $11.8k or a used, well-equipped car with a certified manufacturer warranty, I would go for the used car. And that's before the additional costs for AC and radio.
Re: Price of 2010 Touring with popular package [georgebush1]

Well, the 2010 base Touring with a stick has an MSRP of $16,715 and invoice of $16,245. And that is a lot less than the starting price for 2009. There's no rebates yet, so $15k would be a really good deal for a 2010 right now. $20,500 is ridiculous, almost $3000 over list (if you were quoted on a base model with no options). You should broaden your search or just wait for the inventories to build and prices to drop, as they typically do around the end of the year.
