2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 3.8 Grand Touring or 2.0T Premium by misslau on Tue Nov 08 14:49:43 PST 2011

Hi Car man, Can you please provide the residual and money factor values for the 2012 Genesis Coupe for both the 3.8 Grand Touring & 2.0 T Premium (if they are different)? All else can be standard (36 mo, 12k mi/yr). Also, do the lease rates typically remain the same each month for the Genesis Coupe? Thanks!

Ahh snow, spreading the vitriol in this thread too huh? We get it. You hate dealers. You hate new cars. Everyone is out to wring the last buck out of you. The world is against you. Everything is a conspiracy! Give people an iota of credit. Most everyone understands that buying a new car isn't the most prudent use of one's money. Neither is using it to go on vacation or buying a Starbucks Latte from time to time either. No one wants to pay more than most for a new car. At the same time, not everyone enjoys wringing the last dollar out of a deal either. I flew 1000 mi to buy my current used car to save a grand over anything else I could get local. In the end i saved only $500 really. I didn't mind, but some people's time is more valuable to them. I'll make the wild assumption that most will be happy paying LESS than the average paid for a car. Everyone is different and will have different price goals. (Me, personally, I'd work to get it within $500 of the lowest paid.) truecar may not be the bible, but its a darn fantastic reference point. I've played around throwing true car numbers at various dealers. The majority of responses have been 'Sorry, we can't do that [click]'. A few said they could get 'close' but that was it. Honestly, I didn't yet find one that would match, but i think i could if I kept hunting. Of course truecar exists to sell cars. Do you think billboards and circulars exist for some secret benevolent purpose? truecar saves participating dealers some amount of time in a sale and most certainly refers more people to a purchase. That's the trade-off the dealer is choosing. Make a little less, sell a few more cars, save a little labor. Incidentally, that's why most dealerships have Internet Sales Managers. With your admittedly finite experience, you are making some really speculative comments which are misleading at best, but potentially hurtful to readers wallets and purchase strategies at worst. Good luck with your book.

07 Elantra Ltd Price (cont.) by percussionist on Sun Dec 31 20:29:15 PST 2006

I will try to answer all questions in one post. butterflyjones - no, the price was the price, not the OTD cost. I will give you that below. geoelectric - maybe cheaper than the SE, but your price may have been OTD, in which case mine was still more expensive (is yours automatic, because that also would cost more) nthe - I am in CT, sales tax is 6% of purchase price - trade value. Doc fee at the local dealer was $299. I asked them to up my trade value by that amount to offset that charge. I was lucky to find this car in this color combo. zoomandyzoom - It was the color combo plus the 5 speed/limited/no sunroof which made this difficult to find. The local dealers were able to find gray interior (not black) OR automatic OR cars with sunroofs. I was pretty insistant about what I wanted. Here were the final OTD numbers for those interested: 16,551 purchase price + 299 doc fee - 4,000 trade value (99 Honda Civic LX Auto 4dr 105K mi) (Edmunds rates 3800, kbb at 3600) + 771 sales tax (6%) + 108 registration and title fees (non-negotiable, non-taxable) Grand Total = 13729 + 99Civic OTD Not a bad deal - they made about 5% profit, and I drove away happily in my new car! Take care!
