Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer

MA Hyundai Car Consumer Discussions

Re: GLS LEASE in Los Angeles [johneracer] by rcgeller on Tue Jun 07 10:44:28 PDT 2011

I see. But use your true MSRP not negotiated for the real POM calculation. Your car's actual MSRP should be higher than the ~20K you have posted, which would give you a lower POM. I hear you on the tax situation. Here in MA it is only 7% but we also have an excise tax on our vehicles (only state in the US) that is based on where you garage your vehicle. Of course since I live in Boston it is very high (almost another $500 on top). Take the tax out of the equation as the dealer cannot do anything there and work based on car numbers and throw some numbers at him "pre-tax". Hope that helps.

Re: 2011 Sonata Limited Pearl White w/o Nav [cappla] by mpoblete on Thu Apr 15 08:30:39 PDT 2010

Thanks, that's what I thought, the dealer is asking me for written offers on the prices I gave him but none of them want to give me written offers, obviously they realize I can use them to negotiate with others so I'll come to my dealer tonight and try to remove those $495, I don't want to squeeze them all but also I don't want to pay more than the rest, I read in Boston MA they are getting the same car in 23,200 OTD that's a nice price! I must accept though that this dealer is offering me a good deal for my trade so that also counts, we'll see, maybe tomorrow I'll write the good news or I'll keep looking, after all it's a buyers market.....

Re: Can Houston area Sonata buyers do a group buy from other state? [usfarbuo1] by batch5 on Sun Apr 11 10:15:28 PDT 2010

I'm in MA [Boston area] as well and worked out a price of 23,200, before doc fee, rebates, and TTL (net price before TTL was 23,000) for a limited w/o nav (ipod cable and floor mats). I suggest you work the many dealers off each other. Start with the AMEX program: https://amexnetwork.secure.zag.com, to get a below invoice quote then work that price with the other dealers. Do everything by e-mail. Some will respond, others won't. E-mail your local dealer last with the best offer to see if they can match.

2010 GLS with popular package by oopsy on Mon Feb 15 15:27:27 PST 2010

Just bought a 2010 Sonata GLS with popular package and ipod cable for $16,800 + TTL in Boston, MA. Out the door - around 18,300.

Help! 09 Sonata GLS i4 AT w. PEP by boduo on Tue Jul 28 10:06:25 PDT 2009

I plan to buy a 09 Sonata GLS i4 AT w. PEP this month because it's hard to tell the rebate $ for Aug and the tax rate of MA will increase from 5% to 6.25% next month. I went to several local dealers and also emailed/called dealers in Boston area. They either gave a high OTD price (like $17500) or did not offer OTD prices at all - just asked us to go there, sit down and talk...But I do not have a car now (basically I need to ask my friends to take me to the dealerships), so I hope they give me a price which I think I can buy with, then I will just go there with my checkbook..... Once I went to a local dealership with the OTD $17500 from another local dealership and asked them whether they can beat it. They just said like "no, it's already a very good deal, if it's not a low ball offer, then go for it. If it's a low ball offer, come to us, our price will not change and won't be a low ball offer" Their OTD price is $17900... They did not even ask my name and phone number.... Then I was totally confused!! According to the prices I've seen here and other forums, even $17000 is enough for the car I want. Am I wrong here? What's the price for other buyers in MA? Except for the tax rate, will prices in different states differ a lot? Any suggestion and help will be fully appreciated. This would be my first car and I hope I can get it soon. It's OK that I just wait for another month, but I just do not feel like spending another month on it. BTW i only qualify for the $3000 rebate and I do not have a car to trade in....
