Re: Can anyone confirm this is a good deal? [backy]

After I posted that last message I decided to see what Fitzmall may have in other locations. Found my "wish list" car on order for delivery at the end of this month to the Fitzmall location in Bethesda, MD. They will ship it for roughly $350. I can't fly up and drive it back for that. :) Not sure yet if that's what I'll do, but it's nice to know I have that option.

Go to Towne Hyundai's (NJ) web site. Search the forums for Towne Hyundai as well. I have no experience to back it up, but posters here say it is the real deal. Their "doc fee" is (at least was) $189. If local SW Ohio Hyundai dealers would match their offering within $500 I'll buy local but I've had no luck getting that close of a quote previously on 08's. A trip east is no problem as family is in PA and I head that direction half-way fairly frequently. Some here suggest buying in the MD-DC-VA area as well, but I can't say I've seen it better or more certain that the Towne deals. I keep reading though. When one buys, ignorance is the kiss of death. Read all those "buyer's remorse" postings here. Two times I've purchased new cars since 2001; once I received 35% off sticker and another time almost 40%. These were GM models though and I had GM credit card rebates in addition to the highest manufacturer's incentives. Not that I expect to get that kind of deal, but the point is to maximize your knowledge to where you cannot make a bad decision. On an 04 Silhouette the sticker was $29435 - negotiated $26800 (included "fees" - probably could have been better) - rebates were $6000 - card rebates were $3100 - a $17700 price before TTT. There were reasons for this deal though (Oldsmobile!) and the 09 Sonata is a superior quality vehicle that will be an excellent buy at significantly less discount. I have been considering a purchase since Jul 07 when the deals were "too good to be true" on 07's. 08 deals have been even better. I suspect that once 08's are all but gone and 09's are in mass quantity with the US factory cranking them out in a continued "buyers" market, the 09 deals will build to a crescendo again. Remember they shut down the Alabama line for a week or two in October 07 because they oversupplied themslves. The 09 is a better car whereas the 08 was essentially the 07 with minor changes in trimline offerings. 5 speed auto with the improved I4 engine! Improved interior! The base price increase is justified given the new offerings IMO. I'm going to still sit out for a little while longer, but I'll be paying attention routinely right here at this forum!

I'd say it probably is legit. They just sell cheaper than most smaller dealers are willing to sell. I've bought two Hyundais from Fitzgerald (Rockville, MD) in the last 15 months. It's about 2 1/2 hours from me, but neither of the smaller local dealers in my area were willing to be even competitive with Fitz's price, and neither had exactly what I wanted either. Both times (wife's Sonata last winter, and my Elantra this month) we've chosen something local that wasn't exactly what we wanted (color/option/etc-wise) but close enough we'd live with. Both times, put the check on the table and told them we'd have a deal if they would match or come close to the price we could get (on the exact car we wanted, no less) from Fitz. Financing was in place, all I had to do was sign the check. Both times, the dealers let us walk away, still about $1000 give or take from what Fitz would do. Both times, we went to Fitz and had no problems, hitches, or hidden charges. This last time, with the Elantra, wife and I spent a whole day hopping around the local dealers, trying to get them to find something close to what I wanted and to compete with Fitz's price, listening to the managers tell me there's no way they can find/swap for the color I want in the SE/manual I want... Had checked Fitz for pricing, but not if they had the exact combo I wanted. Finally, about 5:00 that day, after getting worn out locally, decided to call Fitz salesman I dealt with on the Sonata. Called him, he took my cell number and called me back about 15 minutes later. No car like I wanted in stock, but one incoming (they had the invoice for it, but not the car yet) that was exactly what the local guys told me I'd never find. I gave him a credit card deposit to hold the car, and went to get it 10 days later when the car arrived. Couldn't have been simpler or easier (though it could have been closer ;) ). I'm frankly not even sure I'll bother with the locals next time I'm in the market. The Sonata search and dealing was terrible. Decided to give them another chance with the Elantra, and I made sure it was less painful this time around but it was equally unfruitful. They may not get a third chance.

what drives me crazy is that those salesman and their manager will laugh at $13400.. they laughed at 15000! seriously they think i'm a lunatic. i love my car and it still a huge bargain for me financially. i got a nice car for $17.5k instead of 35k entry luxury cars. no big deal. i'm sure there was a point when there was no rebate at all for a brand new 07 elantra. but i'm really p!ssed at them for collectively mocking my intelligence. i really wish some of you can give me a copy of a receipt just to say 'i'm right, you are wrong' at them. just want to throw it at that sleazy manager who mocked my intelligence for 30 minutes. how could they look into my eyes say things like "we lost money, and there was no profit' not once but multiple times? do they really think i'm stupid? well, sorry for releasing my anger in this forum. i'll stop here. but i'll really appreciate if any of you can scan me a receipt.. my email address is jcdesigncreative@hotmail.com

dude. it's a price paid / buying experience forum. i have my right to b!tch about the injustice. i'm just sharing my horrible experience with gurnee hyundai. i'm so mad that i bought 2 cars from them. i paid 17.5k for GLS for godsake. wouldn't you be mad if you were in my situation? yes, i'm angry at myself as well. i guess i'm naive enough to overpay by three grand. lol. somebody just shoot me.

i will remember the day i got ripped off. i'll never forget about it. i'll learn from this mistake and i will never buy a car from a dealer ever again unless i do extensive 2-3 months of research even if was a budget car like elantra. print the edmunds pages out, print out dealers quotes and be prepared. or i will just pay cash to a private party and get a decent used car from now on. my pop did that for last 20 years. dealers make me puke. i'm going to trade this car within next few months for something. i just don't think i can live with it. i don't care if i'm losing money. money isn't even issue here. and you bet i will never go near to that dealer. bunch of douchebags and immoral human beings. when i bought my santa fe 3 weeks ago, there were 2 couple screaming at the one of the financing guy. they were so angry and they screamed and yelled at them for 5 minutes. i thought he was about to punch the guy in his face. i'm not making this up. i was right there watching the whole scene. maybe they found out they got ripped off just like me. lol
