sligg - sri, I've been out of town celebrating our second Thanksgiving meal with the family! Yes, the quote is from Pugi in Downers Grove, IL. The only add on above the figure is tax, title, and license fees. I bought a 2006 Elantra from them on Christmas Eve last year, and plan to do the same thing with th 2007 Sonata Limited this year. I don't live in Downers Grove, rather in Champaign-Urbana, home of the University of Illinois, about 145 miles south. Great dealer, and no "mickey mouse stuff," just good prices and probably the best delivery experience of any new car I've ever purchased. Take a one-way flight to O'Hare or Chicago Midway out of LGA, EWR, or JFK, and drive your new car home! They would probably pick you up at the airport. Good folks . . .

FYI . . . O'Brien Auto Park in Urbana, IL has at least a dozen 2006 Elantra GLS sedans in stock. Most colors, some sunroofs, etc., but no hatchbacks. They just moved to a new location, and combined their two separate dealerships in the Champaign-Urbana area into one new monster store with multiple buildings. They sell the following: Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Scion, Mazda, VW, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler at this new facility. And, they have at least 20 2006 and 2007 Sonatas in stock as well, including several 2006 GLS V6 and 4-cylinder models. If anyone looking for an Elantra is reasonably near east central IL, you might want to contact them. I know they are dealing on the Elantras and the 2006 Sonatas. I have no interest (pecuniary) in this, but just thought I would mention it. I bought my 2006 Elantra elsewhere last December (Pugi in Downers Grove, IL) as O'Brien didn't have any stock at the time.
Questionable dealer actions

I am posting this to warn potential Hyundai buyers in the Dayton/Cincinnati area of my mother-in-law's experience with Voss Hyundai in Centerville. She had agreed over the phone with a salesman there to a price of $17,700 for a Black GL Sonata. (additional details: $100 doc fee, 6.3% HMFC rate for 60 mo, tax around $1100) She went to the dealer to pick up the vehicle after work. When she got there, the salesman said someone else was test driving the car, and they had first choice. (She thinks they said that because the other customer offered a higher price even though the salesman had already agreed to sell it to her) They sold the car to the other customer and she walked out. I guess we'll try again at another dealer if Hyundai renews the rebates.
Is this a decent offer?

I received this offer for an '05 Elantra GLS from O'Brien's of Champaign, IL: 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS Automatic Cruise control - 200 AM/FM/CD - 350 ABS - 595 MSRP - 15862 Sale - 15198 Sale Price - 15198 Trade Allow - 500 (est. only - site unseen - trade is '91 Olds Cutlass Calais with rough paint, mechanical issues, and 125,000 miles - I'll just be glad to have it gone and to be able to transfer the plates) Difference - 14698 Doc Fee - 55.39 Sales Tax - 922 (6.25%) Xfer plates - 80 Subtotal - 15755 Rebate - 1750 Total - 14005.39 He had given me a previous offer on an Automatic GLS without the options listed above and indicated that that quote included the destination charge, so I know I need to verify that the above offer also includes that $545 destination charge. I looked at Edmund's TMV, and if I remember right, this comes out to about $100 or so over that (though I could be wrong on that - forgot to write it down). I'm thinking of recouping that $100 by asking for him to throw in the carpeted floor mats and the trunk cargo net at the same price listed above. I think the $1750 rebate expires on 2/28 - any thoughts on what rebate (if any) will be available after that? Can I ask if he can guarantee that cost savings (either through a rebate or some other means) even after 2/28? He hasn't applied any pressure by telling me it expires soon, though I did email him this morning and asked him how long it is good for. I'm also not sure if he has this car on the lot, or if he'd have to trade for it. Color is not a concern for me, though I would like to stay away from black, white, or silver (the color of the Olds that I'm trading). Thanks for your help!
