Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer

FL Hyundai Car Consumer Discussions

Got my car by bill2006 on Thu Apr 23 21:00:30 PDT 2009

Picked up my Genesis V6 with tech today. Wonderfull car. White Satin pearl with beige interior. Great experience with Tamiami Hyundai in Naples Fl. Salesman was Manfred Nelles.Best car experience I've had. I was concerned about some of the things I've heard about Hyundai Dealers. This guy was a class act. Knowledgable, honest, and a very pleasant person. Anyone looking for a Genesis in Southwest Florida will be happy with Manfred. Now, if the car performs as I think it will, I will be a very happy person. Thanks for all the help from this forum. bill2006 .

My past experiences have show lease prices to be higher than purchase prices. One time I had even given a $500 deposit (1990) to order a car and the backroom guy tried to talk me into leasing the car. They already made the sale. Do you think he wanted to save me more money and reduce the dealership profit by talking me into a lease? Practically nobody pays MSRP for any mass produced car. Last year I spent about 3 hours researching and an hour and a half with a local CT dealer. He wanted too much & wouldn't budge. In one 5 minute phone call I arranged a quote from a dealer near where my retired parents live in south west Florida. A couple days later the quote came in & in a 10 minute conversation I bought the car. Saved $1800 up front. Now, I had to fly to FL in April and drive back. I was out of work for 4 days, didn't lose any pay, and the trip cost me $300 including all gas & tolls. Plus I got to spend a couple days in beautiful Naples, FL visiting my parents. Net price difference was $1500 (plus the nice visit/change of pace). The CT guy was offering me $500 off MSRP without any dickering, and was adding $500 advertising plus dealer conveyance of $398.50. To me, it was worth investing a few non-taxable hours to net a $1500 savings. Did your sticker price also have to add anything extra like dealer fees?

I agree with msebar. If you have the time and can get a much better deal in FL take advantage of it. Bought my '05 in April '05 in Naples from O'Brien. They also have a dealership about 40 miles north in Ft. Myers. The 1365 mile drive from Naples to Fairfield County, CT took about 22.5 hours going with the traffic flow and minimal stops. I left Naples on a Friday morning and stopped in Fayetteville, NC overnight. Hit the road a little after 7am Saturday and had no trouble going through Washington & Baltimore. Also took the Garden State Pkwy to miss NYC and I-95 in that area. Where state are you in in New England?

O'Brien Hyundai, in Naples. They were excellent on my deal. No bologna from them. Quoted price via fax and it was valid except for $52 of FL fees that had to be added. Their dealer fee was $479, but it didn't matter because it was included in the quoted price. They "absorbed" the dealer fee by discounting the price an extra $479. And their faxed quote was in the first few days of April last year, not end of month. Remember, my Sonata is an '05, 6 cyl. MSRP was about $19,600 (incl. destination charge). Rebate at the time was $1500. Price before state taxes & fees was $16704. The '06 price is more than the '05's, but the rebates are now $2500 on the 6 cyl. Plus there is the $2,000 incentive to the dealer which you already know about, despite that salesman lying to you.
