Re: Elantra SE manual w/o sunroof, leather seat [pennellcir]

I regret to say that my advice is to reset your target. I just did a nationwide search on used 2008 Elantras on cars.com (easy to do, you can do the same if you want). Interestingly it picked up at least a few new Elantras too. Some of what I found out: * Warning: several sellers falsely advertise a car as an SE when in fact it's a GLS. There oughta be a law about that... * Warning: several sellers post a low asking price, then say in the small print something like "This price is after a $2995 down payment and you must finance through us and there must be a full moon... etc." Others include all possible rebates in their asking price. * The lowest legitimate price on cars.com for a used 2008 Elantra GLS anywhere in the country is $12,990 for a GLS automatic in Allen, TX with 8k miles. * The lowest legitimate price on cars.com for a used 2008 Elantra SE anywhere in the country is $16,990 for an automatic with 8k miles in Bradenton, FL. (There are "SE"s advertised for less, but it's clear from the dealer--not stock--photos that those cars are GLSes.) So that's about $1000 under the original list price when new, but for a used car w/o the 10/100k powertrain warranty. No rebates either. * There's one new 2008 SE stick advertised at $13,999 in Burlingame, FL after rebates. Note that's ALL rebates that are possible, including military, college grad, and loyalty. And you must finance through HMA to get that price. So that is the picture. Maybe that $14,500 price you've got isn't so bad after all?
I took the leap!

I finally made up my mind. (Much to my husbands joy..lol) I could not find any SE's with the options I wanted. Called/emailed/checked inventory of every dealer from Jacksonville to Bradenton, Gainesville to Cocoa, FL. Fitzmall in Bethesda, MD has on order a Carbon Gray '08 Elantra SE (auto) w/Premium Package + Leather, Rear Spoiler and Carpeted Mats. When it comes in they'll ship it to their Clearwater, FL location for $350, where I'll pick it up. $20,355 MSRP $17,135 Internet price (after rebate) $1,610.38 TT&T $350 shipping $19,095.38 Out the door I left a deposit this morning. I was a little hesitant to by a car sight unseen, but I originally thought I'd have to ship it myself. Fitzmall arranges the shipping to it's dealership which means I get to inspect and drive it before I take delivery. Also, I discovered that some cars on Fitzmall's Clearwater lot cost more than at the Maryland Fitzmalls. It was a comment in this thread somewhere about how competitive dealers in the DC area are that made me take a look at that. I don't know if that's the reason for the price differences, but it's there just the same. I compared several sets of identical cars at both locations and came up with differences in the $350 to $550 range. Anyway, if anyone is looking at Fitzmall's Clearwater inventory and they don't have the exact model/color/options combination you want, check out other Fitzmall locations. The price difference might just be enough to offset the cost of shipping, to get what you really want. :) In the 2 weeks or so that I've been reading these forums, I have learned A LOT. Thanks to all for your insight and advice! Without it I'd be in a totally different car right now, having 'settled' for what I could find locally in both inventory and price. Can't wait to pick up my new Hyundai! It's a first Hyundai for me, and my family.

After reading these forums for the last three months, yesterday I finally bought a ltd, ult, powder white. Except for the exterior, interior coating I fell for($599), the otd price was 30,023. which included the 7% Sarasota county FL sales tax, title and registration. The dealer was Jenkins Hyundai in Bradenton,FL My only bargaining chip was the identical car on Ebay offered by Great Lakes Hyundai in Streetsboro,OH for27,483 plus a$275 documentation fee(plus,of course, taxes , title and shipping) Jenkins added the routine $600 charge for whatever. I drove the car home (33 miles) at 75 mph before reading the manual which suggests babying the car for the first 1200 miles. Thanks to all the contributers to these forums for their many insights.
