Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer
The old days of buying the same car again and again are over...brand loyalty is starting to become a thing of the past. I went from Toyota to Nissan to Honda and if I had to buy a car today, I'd either go to Hyundai or Buick, as in Verano. Got new plugs and a air filter for the Mazda3 since we're over the 100k mrk and talked with the wife. Told her she needs to go soon and do her test drives and definitely plugged the Verano. Considering that she wants a car that can get out of it's own way, the 2.4 in the Verano looks like it hits all the wants she has. Showed a pic of the Lacrosse and Regal and she liked the styling. The new Mazda3 has the same body style as hers, which she noticed, and she wants something different I'm finding out. Agree that Hyundai has really raised the bar and they can sell autos without thousands in rebates by making good looking reliable cars. This is making the other guys take notice that their new products will have to be class leading from here on out. Look at Honda, they didn't go far enough with the new Civic and they know they have to fix it...and fast. Same problem they had with the last generation Accord. People really hated the 2005 model so much that they had to make a real change for the 2006 & 2007 models. What should have been just a mild refresh of the front and rear facia was much more than that, they actually looked like different cars. People expect more now and won't settle for blah styling and de-contented interiors. Hopefully Nissan and Toyota are listening very carefully here...their new compacts could be a real game changer! The Sandman :)
It seems that now Hyundai has established the 2011 models and the sales have soared, they are now starting to introduce "price creep"..too bad, as now the Sonata and Elantra have some serious competition with other fuel efficient brands (and more to come). I think everyone should shop around and work the brands against the competition as Hyundai set the bar higher in their one model jump than many years of incremental changes. The other car builders are now catching up to the new reality that brand loyalty won't keep people blindly buying the same old cars with de contented items and so called little "evolutionary changes"
I went to Sheppard Hyundai in Eugene, OR and selected a black on black Gen 3.6 with Premium and Tech. MSRP was $44,030. I asked if they would sell it to me for the Zag.com price of $37,654 and they agreed, although they remarked that they "wouldn't be making a nickel" on the transaction. Perhaps the fact that we are nearing month and year-end had something to do with it, but I think that a $6,376 discount is phenomenal. That's 14.7% off of sticker. Only other charge was $77 for title fee and $75 to transfer my license plates and register the car. Outstanding! This is a perfect example of what Hyundai has been preaching… lots of value for the dollar. When I drove the 125 miles home yesterday I was extremely well pleased with the car. It handles beautifully, is quieter than the Lexus and goes like a rocket ship with its 333 hp engine - and the factory specifies regular gas! Tomorrow I plan to read all the manuals and learn how to run all the many gadgets on it. The topping on the cake today was when I looked carefully at the black noir paint in the sun today, I discovered that it is actually metallic and has flecks of gold in it. Beautiful! Next week I am having the 3M rock protection film applied for $659. I had planned to spend another $1,000 for chrome wheels, but the factory wheels look so bright I might just save that cash instead. Only other plan is to replace the trunk and steering wheel logos. I'd like to think I am doing that for general appearance, but I think it is mostly in the hope that I won't have to explain to everyone why I bought a Hyundai. If I do, I'll tell them that this car is quicker, quieter, handles better and has more fancy options than my $65,000 Lexus LS430. Only negative is that it has a firmer ride, but I can get used to that. I think I read somewhere in the forum that one owner tells those who inquire about his de-badged Gen that it is an entry level Bentley. Think I'll try that. Put me down as a very happy convert. Been offered a price of OTD 22100 for Sonata SE std package with floor mat & Ipod cable. Includes 3.75 DE tax + tilte, documentation fee? Is it a good deal or still room to bargain
Pegasus, Thanks for the response. Answers inline 1. are you sure of the msrp? -- Yes 2. why is the out-the-door cost of 1492 so high? you never want to put that much down on a lease. Shoot for first payment plus BMV fees ONLY. -- The split was as follows: $595 acq fees. $347 first month payment and the remaining ~$500 some other fees. 3. My calculation based on your data is 360.70 (pre-tax), not 367.92 -- there is a $8.50/month DE state charge 4. what is your tax rate in your state? Not sure..I'll check it out and post. I'll check out another dealership nearby and see what their figures are.
