Any opinions on leather versus cloth? I know it's personal preference, and personally I sometimes think cloth is nicer (warmer) and not as slippy, but I have a small child and hairy dog, so thought leather might be easier to clean. Now I may just be getting greedy - my original plan for SE may work just fine! While I don't own a Santa Fe - although we have friends of ours who do - I think I can offer my .02 on your question. With small kids and furry dogs, leather is probably the way to go ... much, much easier to clean up fur and spills. Regular care and maintenance will keep it looking good for a long time. Yes, it may be colder in the winter - seat heaters help immensely here - but the last thing you want is dog fur in your seats. BTW, our friends have a FWD Santa Fe, and we live in Colorado. They don't seem to have any problems getting around when it snows. Of course, if it snows a lot, then you just stay home! Good luck!
The plot thickens

Got several phone calls from dealer #1. Bottom line is that they will sell me a GLS V6 for $18,165 (after rebates) and will give me $8500 for my Focus, sight unseen. Seems like a great deal. BUT..... My daughter just called, and is thinking of going in a different direction than the Sonata. Her perspective is that if she is going to have this car for 3/5/7 years, she should get want she wants rather than the first car that 'goes fast enough'. So, she wants to take a look at the Saturn ION, perhaps with the optional 2.4L engine (170HP). Stay tuned.

Got a quote from dealer #2 -- $17165, which breaks down as follows: invoice from Edmunds 18015 regional ad fee 500 *not shown on Edmunds website subtotal #1 18515 financing rebate (1000) consumer rebate (500) subtotal #2 17015 profit 150 final total 17165 plus taxes and adjustment for trade in and down payment So, basically $150 over invoice, which I can live with. I'll probably go in later today and have them take a look at my trade ... if those numbers are OK, then we'll probably have a deal. If not, then I'll look into selling the Focus myself and see what kind of incentives Hyundai offers in November.

Thanks for the information. A little more investigation turned up 10 GL automatics at another dealer here in Denver, including 2 in Silver, a preferred color (the one we drove last night was the Dark Cinnamon, which was nice but not exactly what we were looking for). My Saturn is loaded w/ leather, heated seats and sunroof, so I'd kinda like it back. While I could envision an LX w/ all the goodies parked in my driveway, I promised my wife that I'd keep the Saturn a good, long time when I bought it 3 years ago - only 25 payments left. The payments on the Sonata should be pretty close to those I'm making on the Focus. I'm assuming that the $16,500 number is after all the rebates (500 + 1000 HMFC). I'll give this other dealer a call and see what they have to say. Will also have to negotiate the trade in value of the Focus. We'll see what happens.
'06 Sonata - which to buy?

Was looking at Hyundai's with my wife and daughter tonight ... looking for a car for daughter. Drove the following: '05 Elantra GT w/ auto & pkg 8 (sunroof + ABS/TC) '05 Tucson GLS V6 AWD '06 Sonata GL 2.4 w/ auto Daughter liked the Sonata best .. however, salesman told me that there is are very few Sonata 4 cylinders due to a strike in Korea. Any truth to that? They also had a GLS V6 w/ no options with an $18,8xx tag hanging from the mirror .. in looking at Edmunds TMV (which, BTW, doesn't show the extra $500 rebate), it seems available for $18,548 ($1000 rebate + $1000 HMFC incentive). Hard to believe that I'm considering a 235HP car for my 17 year old, but its only $1400 more than the 4 banger. Thoughts?
backy / doohickie

backy: Nope, not gonna happen. have tried a couple of times with no success. Just one of those things ... Of course, I could always keep the Focus and continue to drive it, but that means that my daughter will continue to drive my Saturn L300. I know it sounds selfish of me, but dog gone it, I bought that car almost 3 years ago and haven't driven it in the past 18 months. doohickie - sorry, I must have misinterpreted your response to my original post. We bought the Ford mainly because we were at the end of a lease of a Ford Explorer, and Ford sent us a coupon whereby they would pay off the remaining payments of the lease (in our case, over $4000) if we bought or leased another Ford product. So, didn't really do any comparison shopping at the time. It's getting to that time of year where the family buys a new vehicle. Each November for the past 3 years, we've bought a new car: 11/02 - purchase of 2003 Saturn L300 11/03 - purchase of 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 11/04 - purchase of both a 2004 Saturn VUE AWD V6 and 2001 Saturn L200
