2008 Santa Fe SE AWD
by newcrvman on Tue Feb 10 06:13:11 PST 2009
Hello, After getting stuck 2 or 3 times, I have decided to upgrade my FWD CRV with an AWD car. I think Santa Fe may be a great option, so I decided to check the prices for SE AWD model. I have 4 dealers in my area (Birmingham AL, actually, Hyundai Montgomery plant is only 2 hrs from us), and here are some strange things I hear from all of them. 1. "SE AWD is very hard to get. All AWD models go to NE region, WA and so on. It will take a long time for us to locate one for you", "we only have FWD models". 2. All of them have quoted me THE SAME price, which is MSRP, like Saturn dealers did before. One actually said "EVERYBODY knows, that invoice starts at $25600, so price $22,577 is just impossible" after I told him that Edmunds says "What Others Are Paying: $24,500 + destination charge $750 - regional adjustment $173 = $25,077, minus rebate -$2,500 = $22,577" Don't understand me wrong, I'm not biased towards Hyundai, but I didn't expect that they don't even consider Edmunds and charge about the same as Toyota for their Highlander AWD (60 months 0% APR btw). I know Santa Fe is a good car, but do people really pay MSRP these days? Is it really hard for a dealer to get AWD, or they are just playing? Is $22,577 + ttl for SE AWD is an impossible price? Thank you
Good Deal?

Hey everybody! Love this forum! Ok, I've been researching a 2009 Sonota limited V6 without the nav system. I found a dealership in Tuscaloosa, AL (only about 45 minutes from where I live in Birmingham) that has on its website the v6 limited without nav for a sell price of $22,993. They are stating MSRP at $26,435, List Price at $24,993, and using the $2,000 rebate to get to the sell price. How does this sound to everybody? Think I can go lower? You can view the ad at: http://www.carexpress.com/Scripts/Sticker.dll?homepage=[630]&action=[DISPLAY]&ne- wused=[]&CarExpressCookie_Ver4=[7516023]&ResultsID=[1726071672]&STOCKNUMBER=[54.- 1527.2845] or go to http://www.tuscaloosahyundai.com and search for the Sonotas. Thanks for your advice!

I don't want to sit here and argue with you, as you obviously have your opinion on things and i have my own (based on experience). I really think you should use these boards for what they are meant, and not for personal attacks on others.

remag1234, i'm a salesman, and i'd have to agree with SOME of your points. some dealers have brought this on themselves, but people like yourself are also to blame. yes, dealers do get cars below invoice (because of holdback), but it is not that much (usually around $500 for a 15,000-25,000 car, also depends on the make). But dealers do not pay a "hellva lot less than that price." Let me ask you something, is making $500-$1000 too much on a $15K-25K car? Go down to your local supermarket, ask them what they paid for any item (like they will tell you anyway) and I guarantee their markup is more than most regular (non premium brands) dealerships make on 1 new car sale. Yes, do get informed and don't make a purchase on emotion, but don't get angry about a dealership trying to make money (after all, it is a business).
