GREAT price on EX-L RES in TN
by redwagondriver on Wed May 21 17:47:20 PDT 2008
We used this forum to research prices and we used the email method to get bids. We just got our 2008 EXL-RES this past weekend and we feel like we got a great deal and we wanted to share. We live in the Nashville, TN area, but we drove to Honda of Cleveland, TN where they offered us a price of $28,200 before tag and tax. OTD we paid $30,550 and that included all weather mats!! They did not have our first choice of Nimbus Grey, but they got it for us free of charge from Atlanta. They were awesome to deal with and I can highly recommend!!! I think our price is one of the best I have seen! :D

Moondance,      You mentioned your husband's deposit was by check. I would do two things: First, IMMEDIATELY call your bank and stop payment on the check. Second, call the dealership and tell them you'd like to void the deal and purchase a different van. If they refuse, let them know they hold a now-worthless check and they can do with it... (insert your most colorful version here). If they threaten legal action, they're bluffing... you have not taken delivery. (If you'd feel better, contact your family atty in advance for verification).      True value is 'what the market will bear.' But if that dealership feels that market value is really $39,808, then they should have no qualms voiding your deal, because they'll have 10 more people lining up behind you to pay that (they won't, or if they do, those 10 people don't read these boards).      I know a certain poster will likely say "but you signed a contract... you're not holding up your end of the deal." But as you said, is charging you $1k for $100 of accessories fair, either? Honesty and integrity are a two-way street.      These guys are selling Honda Odysseys, and I'd guess about 2,000 of 'em roll off the assembly line weekly. This is not the last Slate Green Nav/RES that will ever be made. I'd bet there are 20 vans just like the one you want at other dealerships throughout the state/country. Don't be afraid to walk away if you're uncomfortable now.      There are good deals in TN. I bought a slate green EX-L from Dobbs Honda-Mendenhall in Memphis for about $500 over invoice. Got that price over the phone... simply checked their on-line inventory for color/options, and said "$26,284 is what I'll pay. Will you sell?" Answer was 'yes.'      A neighbor bought a dark blue EX-L at similar savings from the same dealer. They will negotiate openly and (for a car dealer) honestly.      There is a better way, and knowledge is the key to successful negotiation. These boards are a good starting point.      I wish you best of luck.

Since the vehicle has yet to arrive, I doubt the dealer would balk at a request for your refund though, legally, it all turns what, exactly, has been signed. It's certainly worth a try - the worst that can happen is that they say no.   If a refund is refused (and depending on the amount) it might even be worthwhile to just abandon the transaction altogether. Forget about MSRP and come on up to Ohio - there are two stores here offering to sell me a Touring R&N at invoice (a good $5000 less than your number) right now.   While I don't feel free to identify them until I conclude matters, College Hills Honda in Wooster (near Akron in NE Ohio) is offering all in-stock Odysseys at 1 cent over invoice for the rest of this month. See the home page of their website for their Odyssey inventory. They told me just yesterday they will pre-sell any coming in at $500 over invoice. While they do not have any R&Ns in stock, a couple (a silver EX-L and a white Touring) are scheduled to be built this coming week and some others are on tap for March.   The Tennessee market must be rough for consumers now. A Memphis dealer offered a black/black Touring R&N on ebay last week for a "buy now" price that was $2000 over MSRP. I looked for the ad again last night and it was gone so perhaps they got that price - yikes!

"Is it too late to try to negotiate a better price or should I just kiss my deposit good bye and wait until I can find a better deal?"   I defer to the more experienced posters, but I thought that you can typically obtain a refund of such a deposit if no contract has been signed.   Get in touch with cccomposon to find out where there is a dealer selling the Touring RES/NAV at invoice, which sounds like a pretty incredible deal (see post 8382).   Keep us posted.
Deals in Chattanooga/Cleveland TN?

I want to admit that I am not a savvy negotiator. I have assumed that purchasing a touring with Nav/RES will pretty much require paying MSRP, which I understand is about 38,810. My husband and I have been looking for a Slate Green with olive interior. We have been occasionally dropping in to window shop at local dealerships, however, I am not sure we are going about it the right way. My husband got a call a couple of weeks ago that one of these dealerships will be receiving the van we want by the middle of Feb. We took a check to the salesman I assumed to "hold" the vehicle. We haven't struck a deal yet, but my husband did sign an order and the price quoted is 39,808 (this includes mudguards and I believe pin striping). This price is $1,000 over MSRP. Surely, they can't be serious about charging that much for about $100 worth of dealer product since they are making about 12% profit on these even selling at MSRP. Now, since reading these forums, I see that it is not impossible to purchase one of these for less than MSRP. For my area, what we are hearing and seeing posted for TMV is that people are paying MSRP. Is it too late to try to negotiate a better price or should I just kiss my deposit good bye and wait until I can find a better deal?
$600 Over Invoice + $200 Document Fee
by homer1 on Wed May 12 05:56:09 PDT 2004
... was my deal in Cleveland, TN (near Chattanooga). This was a little better deal than what I was offered in Chattanooga and Dalton GA and a considerably better one than what the Woodstock GA (northern ATL suburb) dealer would do. Could have bought a Sebring Silver w/the red & black interior @ Lanier in Buford GA for invoice ($29,995) with all fees included! But the Silverstone on all-black was far-and-away my first choice, so I was willing to spend the extra $'s so I wouldn't regret my decision later. If anyone's looking for a light silver on red/black (46 miles on the ODO) in Atlanta, that appears to be one heck of a deal. Good luck to all...
