2008 EX-L in S. Carolina
by Stackman97 on Tue Nov 25 07:00:23 PST 2008
Been watching the board for awhile and finally bought one last week. The sales woman I dealt with was fantastic. I bought from Midlands Honda in Columbia, SC. Last I checked they still had over 20 '08's still sitting on the lot and they haven't moved much in the last 3 months. Anyway, here is my deal. I got it with no haggling, may have done better if I had wanted to go through the 1-2 hour haggle process. Instead, I went in and gave them a price and said that was it, and they accepted. It took about 10 minutes. 2008 EX-L (Nimbus Gray) Base Price: $25,200 Doc Fee: $499 Dealer Installed Junk: was around $300 I think. So, OTD (minus taxes, which in SC is only $300) I paid right at $26K I also got the special Honda financing. Couple things to help with your Honda shopping. To get the special financing you have to have a Transunion score of 710 or higher. Just go to myfico.com and pull your Tranunion score (Honda Finance only uses Transunion). It cost about $12 (just for your TransUnion score) but it will let you know if you are going to get the special financing or not. Also, don't fall for the warranty crap they try to sell you in the finance room. Go to myhondawarranty.com It's a dealership out of Rhode Island who sells the same Honda warranty your dealership is going to sell. I got a 6yr 100k warranty for $690 through them. The dealership wanted almost $2k until I showed them my print out from this website. They then dropped to $820 but that is the lowest I they would go, I just ordered from the RI dealership and saved the $130. Other than finance guys, which are always a pain, the deal was smooth and pretty much the best experience buying a car I've had. I asked my sales woman if I could share her name and my price on here and she agreed. So, it was Midlands Honda in Columbia, SC. Her name is Laura Glass. She will work hard for you. She gave us her personal cell phone number, she has offered us rides, she even went in the back and helped the detail guy who was going slow, so that I wouldn't have to wait as long. I came back a couple of days later to pick some stuff up and when I went outside she was washing my windows and wiping the car down. In a day when car salesmen just stand around looking for the next deal, it was refreshing to come across someone who remembers the value of hard work. Laura earned herself a life long customer. By they way, the van is great. My wife loves it. If you have any questions, let me know. You can contact me at stackman97 at yahoo dot com.

I live near Columbia, South Carolina. I need some advise and opinions regarding the honda dealerships in this area. Also is it better to go a dealership in an area such as Columbia or stick to small town dealerships? I was advised to stay away from small town dealerships since there is no competition for these type of dealerships.
2008 Honda Accord LX
by theresavu on Tue Aug 05 17:34:16 PDT 2008
Hi There, I live in the Columbia, SC area and I was looking into purchasing a Honda Accord ( or Toyota Camry). I just want the plain jane LX and all I care about are the basics (air, cd, etc). Do you think it would be unreasonable for me to start bidding at $17000 ? I would like to purchase one for $18,500 out the door. Thanks for any input.

I did it!!! Midlands Honda of Columbia met the OTD price of $22521. After SC state tax of $300, that will be total price of $22821 for a EX 2wd. They "threw in" mudguards and wheel locks. They did try sneaking in a 72mo/100,000 extended warranty ($100 ded) for 1662.00. I,m glad I caught that before I signed. Then they offered it to me for $898....I still declined. I did pay cash for the interior seat/carpet treatment for $199. My husband will fuss but after a long, hard baseball season, I'll be glad next time my son hops in the car dingy and sweaty!!

Hi again! This is just an update incase anyone's looking in SC area. Mike Patton of LeGrange GA is still honoring the OTD price for EX 2wd of $22,521 (excluding SC tax of $300). I got a local dealership here in Columbia (Midland's Honda)to meet that price!!!! I'm going today to hopefully sign papers. Will keep updated.

The trade complicates things. Can run up to Columbia and see what Carmax will give you for it? Around here, they USED to pay KBB trade money but recently the amounts they pay have dropped to about "auction value" - but it might be worth a trip. In my state, you get a tax credit for a trade in toward the purchase of a new car. So if they gave me $22,000 in trade I would save $1,540 in state sales tax - so that would be like selling it for $23,540. If it is like that in SC then use you tax rate to see what the trade is really worth, including the tax credits. The invoice on an 07 EX sedan V6 w/auto is $25,414. Using a Charleston ZIP code Edmunds incentives pages shows $750 in dealer money on the car (assuming you don't do the cheap lease). So $25,414 - $750 = $24,664 would be a good price for the car, including destination and dealer fees. Sure, some have posted lower numbers - but if you could get this price and what you needed out of the truck it would be an OK deal. You could try to get a price from carsdirect.com and get "dealer price quotes" from here on Edmunds and see what comes up. Others in your area, now that they know where you are, may can suggest dealers to talk to. You want to get the best price for the new Honda, then mention the trade and negotiate that. If you talk them down to invoice - incentive (or less) on the new car then plan on $22k or less for the truck. Check cars.com, autotrader.com, and the local paper for what similar trucks are selling for (at least the asking prices). You may be better off to sell the truck yourself to maximize your money. If you don't have title in hand, you can go through a dealer to do the paperwork (they essentially buy your car for the amount owed and sell it to your buyer). The one I have used charges me around $300 for the service, which includes sales contracts, temp tag, overnight shipping of paperwork, etc. No matter what the "book value" of your truck is, all the current Ford promotions really hurt the resale value. They are offering 0.0% for 60 months or 1.9% for 72 months or $3,000 cash back on a NEW one - which means folks will want a real discount to buy a used on. Dennis
