Buying a car from a Honda Car Dealer

OH Honda Car Consumer Discussions

Re: Ok to buy 2005s? [dwynne] by alex9700 on Thu May 19 06:15:53 PDT 2005

A local dealer offered to sell an SE 'at invoice' even before i walked on the lot. that said, can anyone tell me if the invoice price is still $25,765 ? and do i stand a chance of bringing that price down at all ? i will be dealing in the pittsburgh / erie PA, youngstown / cleveland OH area. thank you

An Ohio Odyssey by cccompson on Thu Feb 24 16:39:41 PST 2005

On 1/3/05 I picked up an '05 Pilot for my wife and I would have bought (or tried to buy) a base Touring with 2.9% Honda financing then being offered but the dealer was sold out of them. At the end of January I started looking again and saw that College Hills Honda in Wooster, OH (in the Northeast part of the state, near Akron), was offering all in-stock Odysseys at $100 over invoice (reduced to 1 cent over in early February). Although they didn't have any R&N Touring models, I thought...hmmmm...and so began a search for one. Previously, I had considered an R&N a poor value given its prevailing street price compared to that of the base Touring. First stop was at Park Honda in Akron. They had one in stock and offered it at invoice when informed of College Hills' pricing. Next was Hugh White Honda in Columbus - where we've bought 3 new Hondas since 1998 from the same salesman. They offered to match Park's price. Now, this was complicated by the fact that I had not one but two late model trades. As it developed, though, all stores contacted offered essentially same combined money (within $500) for the cars on trade (and those numbers were, if anything, a tad on the generous side). Then I headed for a brand new dealer outside of Columbus in Marysville (yes, the same place where Accords are built). Was able to negotiate with the owner who bettered White's numbers. Went back to White and they (barely) beat Marysville's offer. This made the transaction (including trades) $900 more in my favor than the original offer from Park. To double check the numbers, I then went to John Hinderer Honda in Newark (also just outside Columbus). While they would match the trade figures I'd gotten at White, the best they would do on the new unit was 3% over invoice. After all that I was still undecided about whether to make the deal until last week when Honda raised prices. While the MSRP on a Touring R&N went up (like all Odysseys) $200, the invoice jumped $600! THAT finally got me off the fence and I concluded the transaction last night with Hugh White. Purchase price was $34,558 (the "old" invoice price). Included in that price were splash guards, fenderwell moldings, all weather mats, and a cargo tray (about $400 worth of accessories). The doc fee (limited by state law) was $100. Title fee was $15. And that was it - no sales tax was levied as Ohio allow a credit for trade value. Fortunately, the vehicle was built earlier this month and came with the latest Nav release (version 4.13A). I don't know the VIN breakpoint for this release but anyone contemplating an R&N should check to make sure the vehicle has the newest DVD. I would recommend Hugh White and would encourage anyone looking for a good price to contact them (and/or any of the other stores I've mentioned). Others here have also had good luck at Jay Honda in Cleveland and The Honda Store in Youngstown.

Re: Good dealership In WV or OH for EX-L RES & NAV ? [astrosmurfboy] by cccompson on Tue Jan 11 14:56:02 PST 2005

There have been a number of posts here about very good experiences with some stores in NE Ohio: Classic Honda in Streetsboro; Park Honda in Akron; Jay Honda in Bedford, and The Honda Store in Youngstown.   All are within 3 or so hours of Parkersburg (I think).   Also, although I didn't buy from them, I got a pretty good quote a few years ago at the Honda dealer (can't recall the name) in Athens, Ohio, so they might be worth contacting too.

$500 over invoice by ecarmack on Thu Dec 02 12:49:28 PST 2004

Park Honda in Akron, OH just sent out an email for $500 over invoice on any in stock LX or EX, with "special" pricing available on the Touring. It said they had 24 in stock. I am picking up a Touring RES & NAV in the next day or two at The Honda Store in Youngstown (Boardman) for $750 over invoice ($35,309). The build date on my original EXL-R&N was pushed back from 11/15 to 12/21. The dealer said that almost all of the R&N models coming to that region had been pushed back to the end of December or January. I already sold my car and didn't want to wait until the end of the month. Especially with the potential for more build and shipping delays due to the holidays. I don't know if she would do that deal for someone else. I have been dealing with her for about a month and a half, so I feel like she is giving me a break because of the delays.

Re: Central Ohio Deals [rumrunner1] by faxpaw on Wed Nov 24 16:54:08 PST 2004

I hope you don't mind me venting, but several weeks ago I spent one hour at Roush Honda trying to persuade them to make a fair deal on an EXL RES & NAV. Never mind that I bought my 2000 Ody from them at MSRP, never mind that I let them perform all of the service & maintenance on my van. Salesman wore out the carpet between his desk and the sales manager to get their best price. Bottom line The Honda Store, Youngstown Oh, beat Roush by $1600 over the phone with no time wasted consulting with the sales manager! Hope this helps!
