This is an additional charge that is profit for the dealers. Yes, I've stated I wont pay it, actually walked away from several deals due to the fee. I rarely see these 'new' fees since I get an agreement with everything itemized before stepping foot into a dealership. I have however had these sprung on me and simply state that if they want to list this fee that's fine, just reduce the selling price by an equal amount. I live in CT where doc fees start at $299, but I'm very close to the NY border and have purchased by last 5-6 cars in NY stricly on pricing and low or no doc fees in NY contribute to that. Best story I have with a doc fee, we had a deal for an 09' CRV, is this was added after I was given an itemized offer and went in to buy. I asked for it to be removed. The finance guy stated no. I said refund me my deposit and I'm done. He gets the Sales or General Manager as well as the sales person, This guy comes in and says it's a fee all customers pay...I asked to reduce the selling price of the vehicle by an equal amount. he stated he couldn't do that. I said, you run sales correct? His head nods. I reply, you can do anything you want. Ending this, he asked if I would walk away for $299 and I replied, would you let me walk over $299.....no sounds for about 30 seconds. GM puts his head down and says the price is the price...I say thanks, and refund my deposit and see you later. We now have a 2010...I'm happy and got the deal I wanted
CR-V EXL w/ NAVI purchase in NY/CT area

We picked up our CR-V yesterday, black on black fully loaded. Paid invoice price of $28,371 including destination + CT sales tax of 6% + $247 for plates, dealer fee, tire fee, etc. Financed through Honda at 2.9% over 60 months. As we were on our way to the dealership to pick up the vehicle I had another local dealer offer invoice + all season mats, wheel locks, mud flaps (about a $175 value). Since we were were pulling in to pick up our car we said thanks but no thanks to the offer. There has to be some dealer money on the 2010, but I couldn't find anything. Once the 2.9% can out they moved quickly off $1000 over invoice to invoice -$200 deals. The above post has an EXL w/NAVI for $26,200...that's a steal for an AWD, grab it! The two dealers were Brewster and New Rochelle Honda in NY

not to mention differential fluid changes 3 times. Just an FYI: Differential fluid is a maintenance item and will need to be changed on the new one as well. It is good for about 15,000-20,000 miles.

I understand that people may put emotions in their dealings with sales people, whether, these are car salesman, appliance, insurance, or door-to-door knife sales people. The reality of any sale is that MARKET dictates the price. Just like when there is a high demand for a low availability item, the price goes up. It is not gouging or rape, or whatever you call it. No one is holding a gun to the buyer's head, or holding their children at knifepoint until the sale is complete. People part with their money at their own will. Whether you are buying a car, TV, or appliances, you don't just stumble into a store and get whatever the sales person if giving you. You do your research, decide on the features you want, and don't want, decide on the colors, and brands, and most importantly, you decide on the price you are comfortable paying. Have back up plan, as well. If the current market price is outside of your zone, you sit and wait until the price reaches your pricepoint, or move on to the next item on your list. I am sure Sachn is not volunteering 100% of his time for no pay. Somehow he has to make money to pay the bills. So does Fasttex.... Quite frankly, if it were not for a paycheck, I wouldn't have gone to college and gotten a job and then gone back to college to get an advanced degree. So, to expect someone to work for free is quite unrealistic. But, most importantly, you have to remember that MARKET is what sets the prices. If you are not comfortable paying price X for widge Y, but someone else is, then the price will remain. However, if no one is willing to pay price X, then seller will reduce the price until there are buyers interested, until the market is saturated at that price. Seller will have to lower the price, or offer other benefits such as new features to maintain the interest in buyers. But, no where in the scenario was a weapon or force was used to make someone purchase something at the price they were not willing to buy it at.

Exactly. But my point was that I found it astounding that the market would support a 76% resale value after 3 years. Granted my miles were low, but my car was exactly 3 years old and the bumper to bumper was over. Put another way, why would someone pay $21,500 to $22,000 (what the dealer said he would resell it for) for 3 year old car when they can get the same car brand new for $27000? I have done "self lease" a few times, and you can't go wrong with a Honda. The high resale value is beyond me. Sometime, you will see a used car priced higher than the same new one with manufacturer incentives. I think some people are jus tlike robots. They have been told to buy used cars because they are a better value, since the first owner took the hit for depriciation, so they do as they are told. Without using their brain, or trying to think. Most People are like Sheep. They will do what they are told without questioning or using their brain. It says so in the book. :-) Enjoy your new ride, and hope that you can do the same in 3 years.

Sorry but you got ripped off sir. Why? Because I saw the same model 2010 LX-S and the sticker price was lower then what you paid. Second, I offered cash which gets me less discounts usually. Third, his last offer before i said left was in the low 17000's. I dont understand how you used edmunds and still over paid by that much. I was in New Jersey, not sure where you are from. But NJ/NY regional area tend to be higher costing too.
