2008 Accord Sedan LX 4-Cyl Lease
by kzia on Sat Aug 02 16:24:43 PDT 2008
I just visited a local Honda dealer (Planet Honda, Union, NJ) to get more information about the nationally advertised Honda lease: "2008 Accord Sedan LX 4-Cyl Featured Special Lease" on http://automobiles.honda.com/current-offers.aspx?ModelName=Accord%20Sedan. I specified that I was looking for a basic 2008 Honda Accord Sedan LX (4-cyl), automatic transmission, no options added (as specified in the lease ad). Basically, it is a 36 month lease with $2,599 down, 12k miles, for $219 per month. The dealer added fees totaling up to $1,735 (included bank fee, first month payment, documentation fee, registration/license/title fees, tire tax, window etching fees, etc), all of which according to him are "required" and due at the time of lease signing. My question is: what is the lowest additional fees have shoppers found for this nationally advertised lease and from which dealer? Thanks.

Honda doesn't offer rebates, and the dealer cash may be unadvertised if there at all, but usually these financing things are qualified with "participation may vary, etc" In any event, if our dealer gave you a lower price than most and made it up on the financing thats not unusual. If that manager didn't want to give the low rate with a price that far below invoice then it didn't apply (at that minute, second and their reading of your behaviour). If you would have seemed disappointed, said "gee, I really would love to sign now for 0.9%, perhaps I'll go and think about it for a few days" and headed for the exit perhaps they would have stopped you at the door, called back several days later agreeing, or just let you go. You don't know unless you do it. That is the game especially end of month. The "shenanigans" as you call it has been the deal with merchants for 5000 years. 1) If your state has a cooloff period then cancel the deal (or tell manager you will) 2) If its as easy to refinance as some members said you can do that at a credit union 3) Best option- have a talk with the manager(s) about your excellent credit, you want the lower rate or any satisfaction survey form you get about your experience from this dealership (and if you don't get one you will request one from honda america) will be all F's. However a finance at the low(er)rate will produce all A's. This is always a good option, success depending on how much the manufacturer is pushing survey results at the time (or at all) and the dealership's overall rating. This is one of the better levers the consumer has anymore, other than the numerous laws set up over the last 35 years. These surveys have grown in significance (dealer profit) over the last decade or two they were introduced. The factory's attempt to reign in some of the more wild cowboys amongst the independent dealerships in the USA. I would think last option would be to get F. Lee Bailey involved because of expense etc. As it stands now you probably got about an average deal on the car. Good luck --jjf I bought an EX yesterday (21,080 + fees), in NJ. I think I'm happy with the deal from what I've seen. I thought I was going to be able to finance using the current Honda deal (.9% or 2.9%, depending). It was the end of the day and I had asked the finance manager about and said that it didn't apply in our situation because we were buying for under invoice and I got a much worse rate (approx 5.8). I feel dumb now because I think that's shenanigans. Nothing I can see on the Honda site about the deal applies, and I have great credit. I plan on going to the dealer tomorrow and figuring out if there's anything I can do to get my rate changed to what I think it should be. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do I have any recourse or am I screwed because I'm gullible? Am I better off dealing with Honda Finance at this point?

In March I bought my wife a 2008 EL-L with Nav (plus $1,000) towing package for $28,000 plus tax. Based on what I'm seeing on this thread, it appears to be a very good deal. Bought it at Planet Honda in Union, NJ

Check out the Honda Dealer in Union NJ not far from Edison, they have some good deals there try to get the car towards the end of the month they are a little bit hungrier at that time. It's called Rte 22 Honda. I leased my 08 Honda LXP from there and got one of the better deals there last week.
