Thanks for info. How much did you pay at Lakewood dealer ? can you provide breakdown please (Docs, DMV etc) ? 2 dealers are saying $600+ in docs/DMV - which seems way high. also some are reluctant to disclose those in emails or phone. I will visit DCH this weekend and see if get closer to invoice price. thanks

I shopped in NJ for the last 3 weeks, I did buy in Lakewood. I have EXL w/ Nav. awd Your price is not far off if they incl. dest. and don't pay for any of their added extras(mud guards, wheel locks etc.) tell them to take them off if you have to. Sounds like you are North Jersey from the dealers you called, I did visit DCH of Old Bridge, they offered the highest trade in value, but didn't want to budge past 27,200 plus fees, tax and all the goodies. My best experience, was with Lakewood, very relaxed, great sales staff. Good Luck!

I went to Honda Universe in Lakewood, NJ..Had a really bad experience..they gave me a quote for EX-L w/nav for 30633.00 which is a good price..I planned on leasing..anyhoo, I don't know what they did, but they came back at me with a monthly payment of 561.00. I was blown away..I thought is this guy for real?? There is no way on a lease that the monthly payment would be that high..I argued w/ the sales mgr and asked to see the printout of the lease worksheet and he refused..I kept pushing and the guy began to walk away from me..as he's walking away I asked LOUDLY, what are u hiding and he said nothing,,so I yelled you're quoting me this price, but you're not showing me s@*t!! and I walked away..I work for a car dealership and they do not want people to see the actual numbers..look at the money factor and the residual..they told me the residual on all hondas are 48%..bull crap!!! and he told me he is not allowed to change in the computer..Before you guys buy, or lease please ask to see how they got the numbers..I guarantee they will say anything to you so they won't have to show you..it's they're job to explain everything to customers, so don't be intimidated...it's you're money!!! Check out this website and put in numbers yourself...www.leaseguide.com and go to the calculator...
Re: Test Drives [mitchflorida]

Here's my experience as a car buyer. I bought a 06 EX V6 in mid october and in the 2 weeks before it was looking to test drive it. Had an appointment at a dealer near my home but since I was out at a meeting where I was going to join my new job I thought I would walk into the nearest Honda Dealership (Lakewood Honda in NJ) and take a test drive and talk to the salespeople there. Well waddaya expect. I drove into the dealership (with my wife and kid and incidentally my old car has New York plates) and asked to test drive the car. When I spoke with the salesman he gave me the run around saying he couldn't let me test drive the car on the road, just inside the "parking lot".(Mayebe he thought I was just driving down from New York on a visit) I told him not to waste my time as I had an appointment at my workplace in some time and he said, "If we are not buying a car today then what are we doing?". Well, I bought the car in the next few days (after the test drive where the salesman was extremely courteous and answered all my questions patiently). So Lakewood Honda lost my business, plus any business they would have gotten from my colleagues and friends! So where did I read that you have to take a lot of cold calls to get some business, that's part of the business; and the last I heard car salesmen didn't really get a crash course in mind reading from Mr Spock. 2006 EX V6
by tandy_13 on Wed Oct 19 04:14:19 PDT 2005
Thanks a bunch to all the fellas at this great forum. Its a truly great tool for car buyers. Nobody who is into car buying should miss this. Took delivery of the 2006 EX V6 4 dr sedan from Bayridge Honda in Brooklyn yesterday. (First time new car buyer!!!) Breakdown: Base: 24568 Destination: 550 Tax (NJ 6%): 1507 Dealer processing fee: 45 NJ DMV fee: 275 OTD: $27 K Actually walked out once because I thought they were overcharging me for NJ DMV fee (around 200 if you do it yourself), but then I thought it is not worth wasting my day off on $100. Overall pretty smooth experience. They are 10 minutes from my home, called them and made an appointment for a test drive. They didn't have a 06 so I just drove the 05 (had already made up my mind about buying 06). Had taken internet quotes from about 10 dealers in the vicinity. Open Road had 24568 (but 300 for processing fee). David Michael's Honda had similar with 139 processing fee. Both had written quotes. By the way don't even go near Lakewood Honda in NJ. Terrible people. I had gone there with my wife and kid while visiting friends and the guy there wouldn't even let me test drive the car. He told me what was I doing if I wasn't going to buy the car the same day; well, I laughed and left. Hardly any negotiation with Bayridge Honda, called them after I got all the quotes, asked them to beat it or match it, they agreed to match it (I forwarded emails with quotes to them). Went to the dealership who broke down the purchase order for me, I paid $100 deposit and told them I would get them a certified check. Signed the purchase order and faxed it to my bank. After I got the check I just faxed over a copy of my license and got my insurance company to fax over a binder to the dealer. Had to wait an hour or so while they got the car ready and of course the finance guy wanted to sell me gap insurance, extended warranty, and lo jack. I didn't want any and he didn't push it. By the way transmission for this car is still built in Japan, everything else is in Ohio (final assembly point). Hope that't not something which would impact Honda's reputation for reliability. One final question for all the guy out there. Is gap insurance worth the money? Is is usual practice for everybody who finances a car to buy it? PT.
Re: Accord LX SE with AT [cdnj]

P.S. As of Aug. 16, after I bought my Accord, Willis Honda had only one Accord coupe left - black SE with AT. You can also try Monmouth Honda Lakewood NJ 08701 (732) 370-9700 On Aug 16 they had two Accord LX SE 2DRs left. I am quite sure they can match the price of $17,000, at least they offered $17,215 to me. My advice would be to take a list of 20 nearest dealerships from Honda's website and call them one by one until you get the price you want. The whole thing takes 1-2 hrs and is much more efficient than going to dealerships in person.
