My new van is sitting in my garage after a long round-trip to Roseville CA (Auto West dealership)...everything went as promised over email...they did try and sell me a few extras such as the Honda Care plan starting at $3200 and then one last try, just before signing, for "at cost" $1400. I've learned on this forum that this can be purchased after the fact at a much lower price...I'll have to search for that thread again!! I said 'No Thanks" to all the optional stuff. The purchase price was actually $3 cheaper than I agreed to--lower than expected, that's a first! I wrote the dealer a check for $30,884.00 ($75 added to base price of $30,809.00 for doc and title trans fees). I will pay taxes when I register it at DMV since I live in NV and bought the van in CA. My tax rate is 7.375% and NV has a fairly high registration fee. I tried to work with the local (Reno) dealership, however, they said there was no way they could even come close (they wanted 2k more) to the deal I got...to bad because I really wanted to buy locally...they seemed quite lost with all the incentive and current price paid info, etc. I wonder, as others have, if the incentives are not available to all dealerships and this is why they were 2k above my deal?? Anyway, I worked with Kevin and Marco in the Internet div at AutoWest Honda Roseville...straight shooters and low stress--very happy! Kevin earned my business because of the price, but also due to his "non-annoying" persistence unlike any other dealer I contacted...either I had no reply or they wouldn't take "No Thanks" for an answer. Happy to share more if anyone is interested...I'll monitor this site for few more weeks and then sign off until my next car purchase. FB23
Looking to buy a new 2007 Honda Accord SE A/T 4 cyl
by cmingus on Sat Nov 18 13:54:09 PST 2006
Hi everyone. I need your help. I have been quoted a price of $18,639 plus $300 delivery fee and $45 doc fee from Stockton Honda in CA for a 2007 Honda Accord SE A/T 4 cyl. I live in Tucson, Az and would have to drive to Reno,NV to get it. They say that I will pay the rest of the fees when I register the car in my state including the taxes. Upon delivery of the vehicle, I would also pay the notary fee. Has anyone gone through this? I am just afraid that if I go there they might increase the fees. Does this sound legitimate? Thanks, for your help.
RTL Leases and Add Ons
by galvang on Wed Dec 14 23:54:23 PST 2005
Add ons really screw up the leases. The dealers take advantage of this. Overall, I was pretty happy on the deal they gave me but you need to stay on top them. Add on accesories were a major hurdle in closing this lease. You should not pay for the full purchase amount of add ons during the lease of the RL. The customer does not own them and returns them back to Honda after the lease. Honda finance has a list that shows how much the dealer has to add for the total residual on the add on accessories. By using these numbers the lease should only increase by a few dollars a month for each accessory. ;) So think about this if a trailer hitch cost $500 and the dealer wants to charge $19 more per month for a 42 month lease. That means that the customer will pay more 900 dollars and he doesn,t even keep it. He returns it back. What a sham.
2005 Pilot EX/cloth interior experience with dealership
by djc2 on Mon Jul 11 08:39:11 PDT 2005
My husband and I wanted to test drive a few of the models here in Reno, NV. After three hours of being given this opportunity and looking the vehicles over, inside and out, we decided the Honda Pilot was a very comfortable and safe car we may be interested in. Getting to the price was always evaded, from the beginning, which became irritating to the two of us. When we stated at the bargaining desk we would not be purchasing one today, but discussing it over the next few days, the manager was brought in. He wouldn't not give an inch, but kept the price where with all the taxes, dock fees, we would be looking at a 32,000 vehicle. The msrp was that to begin with and he stated they would not be selling but a few hundred over their cost. After giving them enough information about us, our credit being good, etc., we left there feeling violated and humiliated, but hadn't budge in our effort to make a good purchase. We are drive it forever people, with two older cars that are kept running in good shape. The idea of taking a trip in a newer car was our incentive, but not to be kept hanging for the actual deals they said they would offer. After three hours time, much talk, no information from them, we just felt test driven weary. I suppose it is normal when going to a dealership, but I have been the one who does the car shopping and in the Elko and Twin Falls area I have never felt this pressured. My husband actually said he got allot out of the experience, since it was his first. I am happy he did, cause it was totally not my idea of a good way to spend a Sunday within one dealership, when I had hoped to see another few vehicles in the same area in other lots. The price is way too high for us, they have said there is no way, is there a way? Am I expected too much from the Nevada dealership? Please let me know, as this site has helped me see that I am not alone in the irritated and frustrated feelings I have had. Thank you so much. :o)
Re: Complicated Purchase [dwynne]

My understanding is that if you take delivery of the car in CA, you WILL pay CA sales tax. I read somewhere else on this board that someone took delivery of their CA-purchased car in NV (just beyond the border in Reno, I think) to avoid the CA taxes. That said, you may get a credit in your home state for sales taxes already paid, so if you pay CA sales tax, you may not actually pay sales taxes twice once you get home. Of course your tax money will benefit CA rather than your home state. Your best source of info is your state's DMV/licensing website. CA has a transit license (temporary license to allow you to drive it our of state), so that part is easy.
Buying Honda in Northern California
by vinaykagarwal on Sun Mar 20 20:33:18 PST 2005
As a Honda Odyssey buyer in Northern California, I found some of the best pricing in Reno NV area (Michael Hohl Honda). Buying from outside of the CA, one doesn't pay any sales tax to the dealer but to DMV upon registration. Tradeoffs are a few hours drive and a trip to DMV vs. the savings.
