Buying a car from a Honda Car Dealer
Agreed, the prices in the Bay Area are really sticking to close to MSRP. I had gotten a written quote of $1400 over invoice for a Touring Res&Nav from Michael Hohl Honda in Carson City, NV (I have friends in the Tahoe area which would make this an easy buy) and from a dealer at Lancaster Auto Group in So Cal for $1400 over invoice. Sadly, neither one has the color combination I'm looking for. I ended up deciding to go with a dealer in Oregon which is a bit of a trek for me and my family but we're turning it into a weekend trip with a leisurely drive down the Oregon/California coast over the weekend. He's quoted me $1800 over invoice on the Touring R&N. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly but have my rental car reservation just in case. ;-) Either way, we have a nice drive down the coast. Thanks to everybody on this forum, it's been very helpful and educational to listen to the bickering, er, comments. I'll report what happened when I'm back.
Dorene, unless the law changed since I left, I don't think you could buy the car outside of Cal and bring it back as a Cal resident anyway. So you could have gone to other cities to shop (one poster mentioned a good deal in Merced), but not other states. Anyone one with suggestions in AZ or NV--and if going to Vegas is a good idea. E.g., good deals to be had and no state or local sales tax right?(though I think when you return to your home state you will still have to pay state taxes). Thanks Also, charzo that Costco Exec deal beats the hell out of my credit union (4.9/60 months)--I have a regular Costco membership can I still get that deal or simply pay for the Exec membership for the deal.
I just took delivery of a GG Odyssey EX-NV for MSRP (no options) from Robertson Palmdale Honda (60 miles north of Downtown LA). I dealt with the Internet Sales Manager, Jim Maze at sales@hondascheap.com; 661-265-6000. No haggling, no pressure-tactics, just friendly, courteous service. It took all of two mail messages and a 15 minute phone call to initiate and finalize the deal. After all the nonsense I had to endure with nearby LA dealers, it was refreshing and well-worth the drive. Wait-time on this car was zero, but that was apparently because the intended buyer (who had placed the order from San Jose) had backed out. Still, they must be getting a fairly good allocation, because additional Odysseys were being off-loaded when we got there. For those of you in the Bay area, Jim told me he drives Odysseys to customers up there several times a month for a fee (to cover airfare back home). The Finance Manager, Chris Stone, offered Honda Care Coverage (7yr/75k/0deduct) for $955, which seems to be in the ballpark for prices paid by others on the Net.
