Miles City, MT Honda Car Consumer Discussions

Is there room to negotiate when you have to order?
by hondalibrarian on Wed Apr 30 05:42:30 PDT 2008
I am considering a 2008 Fit Sport MT. There is just one Honda dealer in my city (though a few others within 75-100 miles). When I called the local place to inquire about a test drive, the salesman said they don't have any on the lot because the car is in such demand (true; they rarely show any in their website inventory, and when one does show up it is gone within a day or two). I have not yet asked for a quote. I can reserve an incoming one with a deposit, which is refundable if I decide not to buy once I drive it. My question is this: am I going to wind up paying what the dealer wants me to pay because of the demand situation, or is it worth the effort to negotiate and solicit quotes from other dealers? If we're talking about a difference of $100-$200, it isn't really worth the time and stress to me to try to squeeze a relatively small amount of money out of the deal. I just hate to feel that I have naively plopped down a significantly larger amount of money than I needed to.

My deal seems pretty poor compared to many, but I have the disadvantage of location. Only 1 moderate sized Honda dealer in the state (2 more tiny ones with only a handfull of Accords at a time) and they know it. Worth it to pay a few hundred more to not drive 700 miles (each way) with 2 vehicles and the whole family. The two closest big cities are Denver and Minneapolis, and they are not really dealing to well either. Chicago may have better prices, but it seems to me like most of the best deals are on the Coasts. Vern Eide in Sioux Falls South Dakota 2007 Accord SE MT $18,700 with destination. $69 for temp tags and doc. Out the door for $18,769 - 3% tax gets paid when I pick up my tags. The whole purchase took less than 15 minutes. Signed the contract, handed the checks, and done. Only asked 1 question - do I want the extra warrenty. I said no, and that was it.
Waiting in New York City
by racerski on Sat Mar 17 06:06:21 PDT 2007
The name of the dealers I finally purchased my Honda fit was Huntington Honda in Long Island New York 40 miles from New York City where I live. Supposedly they are the 4th largest Honda dealer in the US. I believe it, since they were the only dealer that had 6 Fits in stock with two Lunar Mists, one AT and one MT. Most dealers had one or two with many not having any in stock. Since I looked at all the cars within the class of the fit I will rate them as the best. The salesman was not pushy and very nice and accommodating with personnel e-mail where I could send him messages. The others dealers only had one e-mail address for the dealership. When I picked up the car they had roses for my wife and a big red bow on the rear view mirror. Since the car was for her birthday present it went over very big.

Thanks for your thoughts. Read on Well I decided those 6 weeks to wait for a lunar mist base Fit was far too long and decided to do an internet pull on all Honda Dealers within a 100 mile radius of my home. It worked; at about the 19 caller (40 miles from my home in NYC) a Honda Dealer had my car in the inventory. The Lunar Mist Base MT for 14,445 plus tax and License fees. The same deal my ordinal order from my neighbor Honda dealer except he thru in the mud guards. To make a long story short I got my wife the car exactly the way she wanted it in a few days after making my phone calls. My original dealer was not a happy camper when I asked for my $500 deposit back. Give me a break, enough in enough, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I wanted very much to buy from the same sales man I purchased my Pilot a year ago with a price $1000 below invoice. After all, I am paying MSRP for the Fit where I pick the car up makes no difference. I felt like a moron after the dealer told me I would get an e-mail from them within a week giving me the start built date. I didn’t get a phone call from the guy in five weeks. I have since found out the car was never ordered and he was waiting to get one in but would try to sell be a different color in a base model. I wanted the car for the spring March time frame not the end of the summer. The car was build in Japan on January 27, 2007 and arrived at the dealer March 2. I purchased the mats and mud guards on line with shipping for $100 and just ordered a set of wheels that will make the car awesome. The color was worth waiting for since me never did see it in person, and felt a little uneasy about the look in pictures, but it way nicer in person. The hub caps are Okay but really didn’t give the car the look I wanted especially when I saw a picture of the jazz with the wheels I wanted. My Honda Pilot is in the garage and we are having a great time driving the fit. Pure fun, and a car that has everything we wanted in a small car. Good luck to all those looking for the Fit. Get the car you want with the color you want.
New York City Fit

Thanks for the posts. I am appreciating all the discussions on the car we finally picked. I currently own a Honda Pilot that I purchased two years ago. Great car and would recommend it to anyone. My wife has a 21-year-old Honda Civic Manual 5 speed with 150,000 miles virtually all in NYC streets. I purchased it new in 1986 for $8,600.00. The fit is the exact same size. I finally talked her into giving it up mainly because of safety of today’s vehicles. The airbags side curtain air bags make a difference in a crash. If safe technology is in new cars you need to drive one. It’s like being in a house without a Carbon Monoxide Detector. She wanted a car that met her needs and was easy to park in our NYC streets. We have test driven AT and MT of the Sion, Versa, Suzuki and the fit and finally decided the Fit was the fastest, best handling, stopping quickest and the smoothest 5 speed MT with the configuration of seats that is unbelievable and lets not forget about Hondas reputation. My wife drove conservative but when I drove I truly tested the car with the sales person a little nervous. Today I ordered a Lunar Mist Base MT Honda Fit 6 – 8 weeks delivery 14,445.00 MSRP 1,245.88 Sales Tax New York City 12.50 Waste Tire Fee 10.00 State Inspection Fee 70.00 License Fee 45.00 Dealers Processing Fee Dealers gift, 4 Mud Guards probably worth about $120.00 installed Total Out The Door $15,828.35 I too feel right about this deal and the car. Get a good deal but always get the car you want. It was very difficult to buy at MSRP. My Pilot I got for $1.000 below invoice. My wife is happy but apprehensive about giving up her 86 Honda Civic Wagon. Thanks for all the posts and the helping me pick the Fit.
After thoughts on new 07 Civic EX MT
by pham0167 on Tue Oct 10 09:38:30 PDT 2006
Finally purchased an 07 Civic EX MT sedan last week, driven it for about 400 miles. Here are some good and bad points I have with the purchase: It took about one month to locate the vehicle I wanted. I was turned down by banks for a finance so I had to get a 9.09% interest from the Honda Dealership. The finance person says that it's the lowest rate I could get, I replied by saying that a finance person at my bank preapproved me for 7.8%. She responded by saying that she's absolutely sure she can match that rate if I could fax over the approval once I am approved. I also wanted to apply for the new college graduate program, and they denied me by saying that they already sent in the application and was rejected. It was total BS, but by that time, I didn't care anymore, just wanted my car and get out. I didn't have the approval and ended with 9.09. I ended up getting the Civic EX for 19,000 plus a 900 trade-in with a value of 250. I was happy with the price I got for the trade-in. Afterward they lost my check deposit, I had pay 29.00 to my bank to cancel a check that they lost. As for the car, I've driven it for a week and absolutely love it. Drives very nice and so much better than my 95 Civic. I have found some negatives/positive so far that haven't been mentioned too much. I like a lot that I can open my car trunk with a remote and the moonroof has a tilt or open options. I don't like it that the radio doesn't display song text information when receive FM signals (all other new cars I know of does it). I also don't like the plastic feel of the gear shift, I makes a nice plastic against plastic noise when shifting. I do love the manual transmission, it switches gear smoother than any car I've driven. The gas mileage is great, so far it's about 37 mpg with 60/40 highway/city driving. Overall, I love the car, I don't recommend any of Honda dealerships in Minneapolis,MN area, they have horrible customer service. Hope some of that will be helpful to some people.
