Buying a car from a Honda Car Dealer
I'm in Ann Arbor MI and set a wide net with Edmunds car search. And used Zag.com to see prices. Started in Oct 1. Used zip codes in: ann arbor mi, bloomfield mi, ohio, lansing, brighton. And did it all online, except I did also go into the local Honda dealer Howard Cooper. And left after they wouldnt help me out. Their view was busy people needed the car and were satisfied with paying a little extra. Granted their costs are a little higher because of the location so you will never get a true best deal. They were fine, sent out tons of automated emails. Good thing I sent up an email just for this purchase. So I sent them a bunch of delayed(automated) emails (see Outlook->Options->Delay Delivery). It was certainly convenient, but gosh I'll put in a few extra days of searching to save $3k. However, it reaches a point where you just have to buy. The prices on this thing drop week to week. But looking at the 2010 prices in September there is a limit. So obviously it's a function of time. If you want the cheapest price on '11 Ody then wait 10 yrs. Point is you got to get the best price at the time you're in need of it. Zag prices didnt budge until last week since the car model is new. Right now Zag price is $39,290, Avg price: $41,024. I eventually get the "great" zag price. Ohio had the best first prices. Ann Arbor dropped price from over MSRP $600 a day for a few days, still way over priced. Bloomfield wouldnt budge and Brighton had nothing good even though I explained to the guy that he could charge locals high amounts, but typically he would never get someone from ann arbor's business so he might as well make the sale and make a little, and give me a deal. After telling them how to run their business (they love that) it was a no go. At this point Honda Marysville Ohio had the best price at $38,882. They seem like a great dealer. But being a 2 hour drive I preferred something closer. Capital Honda in (okemos) Lansing (online) then gave me a great price at: Odyssey Touring '11 $38700 (including destination) Free Winter Mats and Flaps $190 destination plust title/reg All together $41,272(no trade) They ordered the hard to find Smoky Topaz, got a brand spanking new one with 3 miles on it, made in Alabama and had it in 2 weeks. Drove an hour and picked it up. I highly recommend them, use zip code 48864. No hassles, no pushing nonsense dealer added junk. Some thoughts: If you're desperate (coming off a lease or don't have a car or your wife is 9 months pregnant) then the local guys have you. If you can wait, be patient and not rush in, and be willing to walk away then you can get a fair price. If I was a dealer: I would charge my locals a fair/medium/market value price. For my Internet sales for people who live > 50 minutes away I would charge them a LOW price. It's a customer you're never going to get normally, just make the sale. Remember the best thing they can do for you is NOT sell you the car. About the car: It's a sweet car, handles great, the electronics are very cool and everything seems be done right. If you can afford it then get the Touring.
No...did not waive it, It is included in the $458 payment. Cuz my calcualtions on the above mentioned selling price was $435 payment and not $458, so when I called to inquire, he explained to me the Acquisition fee...(the dealer is Fischer Honda, in Ypislanti, MI) Now I just received a call from Howard Cooper Honda in Ann Arbor, MI, who historically have been very high and arrogant, and the offer just got even better: 2WD selling Price: $29395 Same MF and Residuals quoted by Fischer for a total payment of only $433.54 (OTD, incl, tax) with same out of pocket ($672) Now for 4WD I can have the same payment ($433.54) but my total out of pocket goes up only by $150 or so to $827.. I am definitely leaning towards that now I am now waiting for Fischer to see if he can match/beat that deal (they offer free oil change, while Howard Cooper does not)... UPDATE: Fischer matched the deal with a measly $77 discount on out of pocket, so what it looks like I will be getting: 4WD EX-L (12/36) $433.54/month includes tax and all $750 total due at signing Free Oil changes... I think I should be pretty happy with the above Any other insights will be appreciated...
Is there anyone in Detroit Metro Area who just purchased '08 Honda Civic EX? If so what is your experience dealing with the dealers in the area? Would you recommend dealership and how much did you get your car?
I can't speak about the Seatle area, but in Ann Arbor, MI, my best quote for the 2008 Odyssey w/o Pax is $34,475. I think the current manufacturer to dealer incentive is $2000, and it ends 4/30/08. Hope this helps. Dawn
I was just quoted the following for a Coupe LX 5M. I asked the internet salesman first about his "best" price for buying: he quoted $15,900 + 6% tax + $99 doc. fee + $23 plate xfer. Next, I asked about leasing, and asked him for the MSRP, money factor, and if there were any other fees. He replied: "At this time you can lease for 36mos with 12,000 miles per year and a total of $350 due at signing for $221 per month. That payment includes all taxes, therefore that would be your total payment each month. The amount due at signing includes your first month payment, documentation fee and plate transfer fee. If you need a new plate then I will need to calculate a new plate fee based on your birthdate." In short: $350 at drive-off (incl. first pmt, doc fee, plate xfer). Then, $221/month (includes tax). Total out of my pocket after all is said and done: $8,085. I know usually y'all ask for MSRP, residual, blah blah but just looking at this deal, it sounds pretty good to me (my objectives were LOW/NO DOWN PMT, MINIMAL FEES such as acquisition fee etc.). Am I naive in looking at "how much I paid at the end of the lease" as my guide (all terms of lease being equal...)? Is this deal good? I'm hoping there won't be any other surprises sprung on me at signing. Appreciate your comments.
