Ody EX-L w/ RES & NAVI below invoice by luckydog6 on Wed Apr 19 07:44:18 PDT 2006

Please note this post is not prompted by the recent posts regarding Bobby Rahal and Faulkner dealerships in Central PA. Had no interaction with Rahal, but can report a great purchase experience @ Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg PA--the dealership and internet sales rep there are really first rate. Bought our 2006 Silver Pearl Metallic EX-L w/ RES and NAVI last week for $30,999 + TTL. Yes, the $550 destination was included in this price, and consequently, this deal was done for about $700 below published dealer invoice. Included wheel locks, and the Ody had 3 mi on the odometer when I drove it off the lot. Can provide the following details about my buying experience, which took less than 10 days from start to finish: 1.) Requested price quotes via internet from a number of dealerships, about half responded with emails. 2.) 4 dealerships responded with price quotes below invoice: O'Donnell (Ellicott City MD), Mike Pruitt (Akron OH), Piazza (Philadelphia), and Faulkner (Harrisburg PA). 3.) Had follow up conversations by phone with each of these dealerships, and got best initial impression from Faulkner; Faulkner was also among the quickest to respond to my website request for a quote. 4.) These dealers were hungry to make the sale, Piazza even offered to beat my best quote in writing by $100.00 5.) In the end it came down to trust--called Faulkner and told them if they would sell at my target price I'd stop shopping and buy from them the next day. After a quick consultation with the sales manager, they agreed. Had so much confidence that they were being straight up, I did not feel it necessary to ask for email confirmation. 6.) Made my only trip to Faulkner to write a check and pick up our new Ody the next day. Live in suburban Philly, so the 90+ mi trip to Harrisburg was a little inconvenient. We also settled for our second choice in color, as we limited our search to current dealer inventory to avoid transfer fees in order to get the best deal. It was all worth it, however, as the 2 closest dealerships to our home quoted $31,000 for EX-L w/ RES only! Might have been able to save another $100 or so if we haggled with Piazza or if we waited until the end of the month--for us it wasn't worth the added hassle, and we felt comfortable with the deal from Faulkner. Oh, and after owning the vehicle a week, the wife changed her mind--she now actually prefers the silver to the other available colors. We couldn't be happier with our new Ody. Funny how things just work out sometimes. Special thanks to all contributors on this board and good luck to all Ody deal hunters out there!
