2007 CR-V EX-L 4WD w. Navi - DC Area (Long)
by skassam on Sat Feb 10 18:40:58 PST 2007
Hi All, I just wanted to post my experience and thank everyone for their great advice. This forum really helped. I started last Sunday and sent out a RFQ to 20 + dealers via email in the DC area for a 2007 CR-V EX-L 4WD w. Navi in Glacier Blue.I received quotes from about half the dealers within 2 days.I received quotes (incl. destination and processing) as high as $30,195. I finally narrowed it down to two dealerships, $27,100 Pohanka -Salsbury, MD and Criswell - $27,200 Germantown, MD. Salsbury, MD is about 2.5 hours from DC. Germantown is 30 min from my place.I did not relish the idea of spending an entire day picking up the car so I decided on the $27,200 from Criswell however they said I would have to wait 2 weeks for delivery which was not a big deal for me. The Salsbury , MD folks accepted my decision initially, but then called me up 30 min. later and decided to sweeten the deal to convice me otherwise. They would drop the Honda which they had in stock to my door (150 miles away) via flatbed truck plus throw in all season mats and front mud guards and lower the price to 26,950. I took their deal. I got the 2007 CR-V EX-L 4WD w. Navi delivered to my front door with the all season floor mats, front mud guards and a great price of $26,950 on Friday. That's what I call great customer service. I would highly recommend Pohanka in Salisbury, MD. Very honest dealership and they went the extra mile for me. Folks, there are good deals to be had. :shades:

Just joined to post my experience in buying a 2006 Touring w/ RES & NAV in the DC area. Following the advice of many on this board, I sent email requests via Honda's website to several dozen Honda dealers in the DC area and around Baltimore (despite the fact that I live close to Leesburg, VA). I also tried to get a quote via Costco's auto buying program. As others have said on this board, I found it a complete waste of time requesting quotes from all dealerships close to DC (ie, Fairfax, Arlington, Bethesda, PG county, etc.) and the Touring model appears to be excluded from the Costco program. Several local dealers offered me the "internet only" price of $38,795 (ie, full MSRP) + options (which most admitted would be over $1500) + TTL. When I pointed out that this wasn't such a special price, they usually countered that this car is "highly in demand" and that I was lucky to even get a quote at MSRP! Long story short, make sure you ask for quotes from dealers far outside DC if you want a shot at paying less than MSRP for the fully loaded Touring. As others have pointed out (and to whom I am most indebted) make sure to include in your search the dealers in Ellicott City MD and Salisbury, MD. I ended up buying from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City based on just a series of emails and phone calls with the dealership -- they initially bid $36,897 (plus $550 destination, $99 processing fee, 3% tax and $15 tag transfer fee). That price was tied with the Salisbury dealer, but when I asked both dealers to fax me a signed purchase order showing the total delivered price only O'Donnell Honda did so. Much to my surprise, when I informed O'Donnell Honda that I was purchasing from them and I gave them my home address, the salesperson knocked off (without me even asking) another $200 from the purchase price to compensate me for my need to drive over 50 miles each way to and from the dealership! Having purchased several other Honda's in the past, I fully expected to arrive at the dealer to find all sorts of "extras" that I don't want added to the car (eg, pinstripes, mud flaps, etc.) -- as promised, there was absolutely nothing added on. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that, although I authorized a $500 credit card deposit over the phone to hold the car, they did not even charge my card and held the car a full 36 hours before I showed up at the dealership. All the paperwork was ready before I arrived and I was back on the road with my new car in under 45 minutes (test drive of vehicle and careful interior inspection by my wife and 3 year old included). Bottom line: I have purchased 10 cars thus far in my life and this was definitely the smoothest and most pleasant buying experience ever. Thank you so much to everyone that recommended obtaining quotes from the dealers in Ellicott City MD and Salisbury, MD. To all of you thinking of buying the Touring with RES & NAV in the DC area, it will probably save you at least $1500, if not much more, to expand your search beyond the immediate DC area.

Pohanka in Salisbury MD is where I got mine. Just know how to work the deal and stick to your guns. If you want to drive that far, try going thru their internet dept first. We did get a response from them when we were looking, but we were already headed that way before we were able to read it and dealt with them in person, but the emails and all from them looked like it would have been a good way to deal with them. link titlepohanka

Hey, I was down the DE beach way, and went to Pohankin in Salisbury MD. I feel like I got a good deal. Your van, as I see on Edmunds invoice listing is $31,364 with destination and before the options &ttl etc. So, you have to decide if that's a good deal or not really. How important are the options? Are you willing to say forget it, if they don't budge anymore. As for timing, they already know they need to sell cars to make money. I've worked for car dealerships. If they're having a slow day, they'll bend over backwards. If they're just trying to end the day and go home, forget it. On my deal they were giving me the "well we have a sale on this vehicle tomorrow, a guy is coming in, or they had another dealer going to buy it from them for their customer..." stuff. Like, either way they were selling it, so you're not special. That's a load. Know your #'s, know when to NOT say anything. I LOVE that uncomfortable silence. It's like waiting to see who's gonna blink. HEHEHE! Want me to go with you!>!>!>!?!?!? :D Oh, and they do the old, well the new models aren't coming in til probably October, so we really don't need to clear the old ones out yet... bull. They gotta sell a car to make money to put food on the table! And make sure you say "I thought this was a clearance?!?!? That's not a clearance price" a few times. Invoice-- they want you to think that's all they make on the deal. NOT. Kickbacks, financing, the trade, the extras. Don't let them fool you. They'll rip yer lips off if you let them.

While I have not been to any of the dealers, I have received E-mail quotes from a number of them and Pohanka Honda in Salisbury MD provided the best quote on an EX by far. If you are looking for an LX good luck. I can not find one in stock anywhere. Bob

Gary- Just had a seamless purchase through Sierra Honda's (Monrovia CA) Internet Sales Dept on an EXL RES. The salesperson just said that he would beat anyone's price by $100.00. All I had to do was bring in a written offer (which I got from Rock Honda (Fontana) through their internet Dept for $29,886.00 On top of that, I told him that I could purchase the Pohanka Honda of Salisbury MD's 7/100,000 for $1069.00. He couldn't match that, but did sell it to me for $1,140.00. They also threw in four free oil changes. The deal took about an hour and a half. No pressures to purchase anything else, even finance was great. :) Good Luck. Darren
