Re: open road honda quote too good to be true? [capt41470]

I replied a few minutes ago on the Open Road quote; I would advise not making the drive. I recently purchased a 2006 Honda Accord, EX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5A) from Ken Dixon Honda in Waldorf, MD. I neg. with a internet saleperson for about two weeks before purchasing the car. I also called and chatted online with 3 or 4 other dealers in the area after getting my price from Ken Dixon Honda. Several other salesperson said they could beat my deal, but no-one (I mean No-One) would give it to me in writing. I visited one dealership, who promised to beat the deal, and they wasted my time - told me after a hour of waiting that they couldn't do it; come to find out, they didn't even have the car available that I wanted (another lie). Anyway, Ken Dixon Honda honored their internet quote, which was a OTD price and located the car and deliveried it on the day/hour that I wanted to pick it up. My price for the car: $22,950 OTD The price was about $500 over invoice, which included the MD tax, 5%, tag, title, distination & process fees.

Back in January of 2004, I got a 2004 Accord EX V6 with navigation for $27,374 OTD, or $25,251 before taxes, tags, and other fees at College Park Honda. Haggle some more.

Back in January, I got my Graphite Grey 2004 EX V6 with navigation for $27,300 OTD. I got my car for invoice minus $200. I got it from College Park Honda.

I did the e-mail attack. It was the easiest (albeit the only) shopping experience that I have ever had. I sent out the e-mail to several dealers at the same time. This way, the other dealers knew you were bidding them against eachother and they had to "win" your business. I believe this worked out better for me. In the body of the e-mail, I told all the dealers that I would prefer to deal with a specific dealer, but that I would sign the the dealer with the best price. Also in the body of the letter I told the dealers I did not want their dealer name "badge" on the car, nor pin striping, Scotchguard (or any other protection package crap), or "rust proofing". The price I asked for was very aggressive, so half the dealers never e-mailed me back. Two called back within 5 minutes (I e-mailed everyone within 2 hours of closing). One dealer told me he could do that price exactly ($27,674 OTD), and one told me he could beat it by $300. In other words, the dealer was giving up some of his holdback. I listed every charge that I thought was legitimate (invoice, holdback, dealer processing fees, taxes, tags, title, license etc). I did not choose any options, but the dealer I went with included wheel locks and splash guards. By the way, this was for a 2004 Graphite Grey EX V6 with navigation and a couple of extras. I bought the car in the middle of January from College Park Honda. I hope this helps.
2004 Accord EX V6 with Navigation

Starih, congratulations on your brand new Accord. I love my car (even though it's starting to develop rust on the inside of one of the doors - see post #7300 under Problems and Solutions on page 367 for details). The navigation is awesome. I will never buy another car again without navigation. As far as booting up, my navigation screen will be ready to go whenever I start it up after about one minute, not 10 minutes. If it takes that long to boot up (even after you press the OK button on the screen), then there is a problem. You should have that looked at when you get a chance if this continues. I paid a very similar price that you paid, so I'm happy.

If you paid $27,776 OTD, you got hosed. In the Washington DC area, I paid $25,741 ($25,251 + $490 destination) + taxes, title, and registration through College Park Honda. I paid $27,371.00 OTD, and that price included wheel locks, cargo tray, and mud guards.
