MF Issues at Honda of Bowie (MD)
by rgustafs on Fri Feb 29 15:36:35 PST 2008
I got them down to a great price on an EX-L with Nav: $29,895 (with running boards and rear splash guards installed). This price was confirmed good on a leased vehicle. I was then told if I came over tonight they could take another $500 off the price. I didn't feel like driving all the way to Bowie unless I knew we could make the deal. I asked for them to check with the finance people for a good breakdown on an AHFC lease since I qualify for super preferred and am a current customer in good standing. I wanted numbers for a 36mo/10K lease. This is what they sent me. 36 months payments $553.26 money factor .00355 Residual 51% MSRP $36,280 Um, WTH? They must be on drugs. I replied with the correct MF of .0003, and I was told I was incorrect. THANK GOODNESS I did not drive to Bowie. Jerks.

Yes there were a few reasons I chose to pay $51 more to the Bowie dealer. First I live about 5 miles from the dealership and they had a color that Sport did not have. Also I had bought two cars from Sport from the former internet rep and he did not want to deal so I would have had to deal with a different sales rep. Also the car had a few options which I got for free.

4honda - Just wondering but since Honda of Bowie only matched and not beat Sport Honda's price, didn't it cost you more at Honda of Bowie since their proc. fee is higher ($100 vs. $49)? Or I'm guessing that location was a factor?

I recently received an offer from Sport Honda for $18,160 plus $595 Freight and $49 Document processing. I took the offer to Honda of Bowie and they matched it. Price paid was $18,160 plus $100 dealer processing, $595 Destination, Tax 943 & tags $162. Total OTD $19,960. MSRP was $23,350 and it came with usual pinstripe, mudguards and wheel locks.
CRV EX 4WD in the Washington DC area

Just bought my new (silver) CRV at College Park Honda and am loving it!! For those in the DC/MD/VA area, I found the forums here really helpful and ended up buying my car at the one recommended by someone else here- only after having several horrible experiences at other dealerships. At College Park we ended up with an OTD price (including DC tax (6.2%), tags, title, and $100 non-negotiable processing fee) of $25,250. They initially offered a price only $200 below MSRP- after 3 hours of negotiating we settled on $23,100- $950 below MSRP. Financing and bringing the car from another dealership went smoothly and everything is in perfect order now. Places to avoid: Honda of Bowie, and Landmark Honda. The guys at Landmark Honda were real bullies and seemed to think that if they talked faster it would negate the fact that I had done my research and knew their numbers. We walked out of there unable to come to any agreement, although the place was dead and they were desperate to sell something. Honda of Bowie was even worse. I had an internet price quote sent to me for a CRV EX 4WD that was only $200 above invoice. Although I had initially requested information for a 2WD, the price seemed so good (and there seemed to be so few 2WDs) that we kept in contact with the salesperson and made an appt. to see the car- this was 4 days before actually going out there. She called us early in the morning before our appt. We missed the call, and called back twice as we drove out there- she did not respond to being paged from the operator. When we got there she apologized, as there had been a 'typo' and the quote we had received was actually for a 2WD!! It was a lot to pay for a 2WD, and moreover was totally dishonest. I called her on the 'bait and switch' tactic but she told me that she had sent me an e-mail earlier that morning (while I was driving the 25 miles to Bowie), which basically covered her ass from any official complaints. Her manager refused to speak to us and we left after being treated very poorly. Bottom line: avoid Bowie! But try to find a dealership outside the beltway, and be prepared for less flexibility right now in negotiating on 2WDs. And don't believe the appearance package jargon! If you don't want extras added onto your CRV for huge amounts of money, then tell them to get a car without the appearance package. It's doable, they come off the trucks everyday free of wheel locks, mudguards, and other things that dealerships like to charge a huge premium for.
