Dealer Markups on Fit
by crazedcommuter on Sun Jun 15 08:13:26 PDT 2008
You're lucky that your dealer only marks up $400. I just came back from a test drive of a Fit Sport Auto with my 19 yr. old son who is going to be buying his first new car. Hagerstown Honda in Hagerstown, MD is the closest Honda dealer and the Fit is on his list of cars. I was appalled to see that Hagerstown Honda has added $1799 "Appearance Packages" to all Fit and Civics. The sales person tried to extol the virtues of the teflon sealant and the scotch guarding. I balked at the add-on and then the salesperson stated that the dealership has added the markup to help offset the "delivery fee" and the depreciation of the gas guzzlers that they have taken in on trade. So a buyer already pays $650 bucks delivery and now Hagerstown Honda is trying to get another $1799 extra as well make a cunsumer pay for their business losses. What they're really doing is bilking the customer that wants to downsize to a smaller, efficient car. I was offered a "special deal of $500 off the price if I buy today. I stated that I will pay MSRP but not any of the $1799 bilking. The cars were still in their shipping wrappers with plastic on the seats, so it's not like I was trying to get something for nothing. They wanted to do the 3 hour negotiation tap dance, so I walked out and began the search for another dealer and a different car. My experience with Hagerstown Honda has proved to be very poor and am appalled that Honda Corporate tolerates this price gouging from its dealers.
Just purchased an 07 SE AT last night!
by magnusx1 on Tue Jul 10 12:58:33 PDT 2007
This is from Hagerstown Honda in Hagerstown, MD. Fantastic place, great salesmen, and the experience was relatively painless: 07 SE 4door AT Graphite Pearl $18,449 with destination $922.45 tax $190.00 tags, title, & fees ($128 for MD registration, UGH!) $19,561.45 OTD Based on Edmunds TMV and invoice pricing, my OTD was about $600 less than the invoice price, and almost $1000 less than the TMV price. I'd say I got a monster deal! And to think, my wife and I walked in on Saturday just to check out the Fit selection, and drove off in a brand new Accord! I've only put about 70 miles on it, and I'm already in heaven! It's got pretty much everyhting I've been wanting on a car since I started getting tired of my Neon 3 years ago. BTW, we really weren't fully ready to get a car just yet, but the clincher was the dealer told us on saturday that, sight unseen, he guaranteed us $1,000 for my 00 Plymouth Neon with 193K on it. They valued it last night at $200! Combined with the $1500 we put down in cash, we were able to finally have a car we weren't ashamed of!
2007 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Sedan Auto w/Navigation
by nighthawk326 on Sun Apr 29 17:24:51 PDT 2007
I'm new on here, so please tell me how I did with this deal. Please let me know how much lower I could have gone. 2007 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Sedan Auto w/Navigation: (Royal Blue Pearl, Odometer: 86) plus Dealer's Accessories: Wheel Locks, Pin Stripe MSRP: 30,205 (Base 29,400 + Freight 595 + Accessories 210) PAID: 25,723.81 (Base & Accessories 25079.81 + Freight 595 + Dealer Fee 49) TAX (MD 5%): 1286.19 TITLE/TAG: 190.00 OTD: 27,200 (with 2.9% Financing for 36 months) DEALERSHIP: Hagerstown Honda/Kia (Hagerstown, MD) The salesperson went back to his manager 4 times before coming down to this price. I felt I could have gotten at least $200 lower. One thing I didn't care for was that they did not honor the $500 OFF coupon they had emailed me, if I buy before 4/30/07. They used the quote of "Not valid with any other offer" and said that they already gave me another offer. Is that legit?!?!?! Also, has anyone kept track of the best quotes so far for this vehicle model? If so, please share. My girlfriend is planning to get one as well, and I would like to get her a better deal if possible. Thanks in advance!
DEALERSHIP won't budge from MSRP!
by awwsnap on Fri Mar 09 10:48:19 PST 2007
(Hagerstown, MD) Hagerstown Honda won't budge from MSRP. The dealer was polite and did speak to his sales manager but he simply said they won't sell below MSRP because right now, they don't have to. They also would have to dealer exchange the vehicle b/c it's not on the lot currently. Looking for a BLACK/IVORY 2007 CR-V w/ NAV :)
Re: 2007 CRV EX (without leather) OTD Price [suvpassion]
by hondagal3 on Thu Dec 28 18:57:22 PST 2006
to SUVPASSION: I live in Alexandria and the VA & close-by MD dealers were too much. Went to Hagerstown Honda in reply to my e-mailed RFQ and got an OTD price w/some options added for 2007 CR-V EX-L 4WD AWD w/NAV for MSRP* of vehicle alone!. The prices are holding in the DC region so I saved $2,000+ vs most dealers' OTD quotes. They are not as friendly as @Hagerstown either! Worth the trip. *only have to pay for tags in VA after docs arrive in 3-4 weeks.
2007 EX-L-RES-NAV purchase in Md.-DC-Va.
by aptom on Wed Nov 01 12:53:29 PST 2006
First-time poster, two-time Odyssey owner from Washington, D.C.-Maryland area. Just took possession Nov. 1 of EX-L-RES-NAV Ocean Mist. Some details: _Selling price was $30,965, including destination. $100 processing fee, $99 license plate fee (a transfer from trade-in) and 5 percent Md. tax. No add-on fees, surprises at purchase. _$12,500 trade-in for 2002 EX-L-RES in good condition, 45k miles. Observations on the search: _It pays to e-mail as many dealers in what you consider a reasonable distance from your home. For me, that meant about all in Maryland _ from Baltimore and north, to Hagerstown, to the Eastern Shore. I skipped Virginia because of previous experience, noncompetitive quotes compared with those in Maryland and unreasonable dealers processing fees. _Dismiss dealers that will not provide a written quote via e-mail. Do not accept their request to get the best price in writing from a competitor and then bring it in to be matched or beaten. Too many dealers are ready to play fairly and a buyer's time is too valuable to waste this way. I thanked those dealers not in the running by saying their quote was not competitive and I wished them good luck in their sales. _The first quote I got for $30,965 (about $1,000 under invoice) came from a dealer about 60 miles away. A closer dealer matched when presented with the written quote, as did a third near Baltimore _ and this after the best offer I had received from other dealers was about $20 under invoice ($31,985). Other dealers questioned whether the $30,965 quote was legitimate; speculated it was for a 2006 with hundreds of miles on it; and then asked for the dealer so they could `buy a truckload full.' _I, too, was intrigued by the Touring w/NAV and the main selling point would be the run-flat tires so I would not worry about my wife while she was in the car with our children. Enough concern was raised on this discussion group that at each dealership I visited (about five) I spoke with the service manager and in some instances the tire manager. I heard enough cautions to back away (price, dearth of authorized service centers outside some metropolitan areas, durability etc.). These service chiefs were advising that I not buy the most expensive Odyssey, and while that is counterintuitive, I figured there must be something to it. I want to give the technology more time to shake-out the perceived problems. _On the trade-in, I was surprised that CarMax in my area offered the most _ $13,000, above KBB. Dealers rangers from $10,500 to $11,500 until the selling dealer guaranteed $12,500 _ a price that would hold for the month I drove the 2002 Odyssey while the 2007 was being built. _Selling dealer would not match HondaCare quotes mentioned elsewhere on this discussion board, so I will go with one of those dealers. Sorry for going on at length. This first-time poster appreciate all the input of other members to this discussion.
