Baton Rouge, LA Prices

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are two Honda dealers in this City and two about two hours away. I obtained quotes from three (one never replied to my e-mail). I will break this post into several due to the length (but I have several questions for you very knowledgable people in this forum). The BR dealer quoted $16,910 (car) + $550 (dest) + $160 (tag/title)and no dealer prep bringing the cost (before taxes) to $17620. The Covington dealer quoted $16,895/$550/$155/0 for a total of $17,600 or $20 less than my local dealer (but two hours away). Lastly, the Slidell dealer quoted $16,075/$550/$139/$295 for a total of $17,059 which was $561 less than my local guy, but the only one charging dealer prep fees. Now I know I'm only supposed to care about the OTD price, but due to the price difference of $561 sounding so much like a destination fee, I called to see if the price included the destination fee. The guy I talked to was not "sure" but said the internet price ususally did include the destination fee. But they didn't have a single LX (oh yea, I was buying a 4 dr LX AT)on the lot. He said it may cost an extra $100 to $150 to get one in from another dealer. Some of you may call me stupid, but I really hate to haggle. This last dealer didn't sound really firm, so I went back to my local guy. Long story short - I purchsed the LX for $16,910(base) + $550 (dest) + $1580 taxes + $166 (tax/tire fee/doc fees) = $19,206. I know this was only about $500 off MSRP and according to "the math" professed by some in this forum, you can do a lot better, I just thought I would post about the prices I had received around here. However, my buying experience was horrible - another post.
My Buying Experience
by bigeaux on Thu Mar 31 09:21:18 PST 2005
Bought it last night from Superior Honda (Harvey LA, New Orleans Metro). 05 CR-V LX 2WD Price: $19,950 including leather seats installed (dealer aftermarket), wheel locks installed, cross bars installed. Trade: $1400 TTL: $1789.50 Total out the door: $20,339.50 No other dealer would match this, let alone beat it, when given the chance. The best competing quote from another dealer - Royal Honda - identically equipped, was $650 more. Qualified for 2.9%, saved me quite a bit. Superior treated us very well. I highly recommend them after this experience. We negotiated for 2 hours on Tuesday night, and we signed the offer sheet long after finance had closed. When we came back Wednesday, there was an error in the re-typed offer sheet, and it was in the dealer's favor. However, our salesman was completely honest, remembered the actual verbally agreed upon numbers, and straightened it out without ever doubting or questioning us. Notes on other local Honda dealers, for those in the NOLA metro area: Royal - Salesman I spoke to there was easily the most knowledgeable and professional car salesman I've dealt with. Ever. Excellent test drive experience, full and complete vehicle walk around. After that, I knew things about the CR-V that salesmen at other dealers didn't. Unfortunately, he just couldn't match the price. I credit him for being honest about that and not wasting my time with a dishonest low-ball to get me to come in. I really wish I could share his name, because he deserves some business. Premier - If you're into internet shopping, this is the way to go around here. Their quote was a little slow in coming, but it was definitely worth it. They were easy going and responsive over the phone, no pressure. I didn't end up buying there, but I was able to use those printed internet quotes as a bargaining tool. Slidell - Poor internet shopping experience. In our first contact, they immediately gave me this song and dance, and I quote from the email:"Please note that the price quoted is the INVOICE price that means we buy the car for that price and as an Internet buyer I will do something special from the Invoice price. Let me ask a question. What would be the fair value you would like to pay above the Invoice please? You got to understand every body stays in business by making a little profit." Well, duh. I found this insulting, as I was asking him for a quote, not a negotiation, and not his sob story. His further emails did nothing to change my unfavorable impression. Covington - Easily the worst initial offer, and it was an internet quote. Follow up phone messages were a bit pushy. Didn't bother asking them for a counter.

buying an Ody
by cshaull on Fri Mar 30 14:56:31 PST 2001
Hey guys, I need your help...I have a (refundable) deposit on an Ody EX 2001 at a dealership that I like (Covington)for $26,840+ $296 for cassette installation +plus tax and tags. I have another dealership offering me one for $26,000 cassette included but a $500 NON-refundable deposit. I called Covington back to see if they can match this deal and they can't. They also warned me about this other dealership-that they have had customers complain about them adding on fees. I know any dealer can bad-mouth another but I feel they are the more honest ones. I have this nagging in my gut about the other dealership. Our deal is pretty straightforward-1/2 cash and half financed thru a credit union so we couldn't get taken by them on financing. What do you think? The other dealer is Team Honda in Baton Rouge LA. Does anyone know about them? They would save me $1200 but I don't like the deposit deal. Thanks for any advice.
