Just closed the deal tonight on our 2008 Magnetic Pearl Honda Civic Hybrid. Purchased at Randy Kuehl Honda for $22,400. Secured the deal way back in early May. At closing today they said I am extremely lucky to have gotten such a good deal. Salesman stated they are only doing MSRP or higher now as demand has skyrocketed in the past month. I'm sure glad I secured the deal when I did. Had to wait a month and a half for the car but finally got it straight in from Japan with only 4 miles. I think I paid a bit much for the extended warranty but it is cancellable up to 60 days so I will likely cancel this one and go for the www.bernardiwarranty.com deal. I can't wait to see how this car performs in the long run. Good luck to the rest of you hunting for a good deal!

You could always have your local dealer call or contact the one that sent me the e-mail. I outlined in the previous post that it was Holmes Honda in Des Moines, IA. Do a quick google search to find their web page and contact info. You could even go as far to say that you have family in Des Moines that would purchase the car and ship/drive it out to you if the price difference is that dramatic. I don't know how much it costs to ship a vehicle, but I don't think it would be more than $200 or so. Worth a shot at least. Good luck!
Special financing in Iowa....maybe regional?
by joeyjoejoe on Fri Mar 14 06:57:28 PDT 2008
I just got an e-mail from my Honda dealer not even a month after purchase for the special 2.9% financing! I had to haggle with them to get 4.8%, and even that was a stretch. I might call and complain. See if they can do anything for me. I haven't felt any buyer remorse until right now. I loved the price I paid, but that financing would be so much nicer. They also mention something about a gift card with purchase. Here is the message from Holmes Honda out of Des Moines, IA: If you've been considering a vehicle purchase, now is the time to buy a new Honda. Holmes Honda is pleased to announce that for 10 days only, starting March 14, 2008, we are able to offer 2.9% APR financing on most new Honda models!* As you know, this is an extremely rare opportunity which is usually offered only once or twice a year. Our used vehicle department is in great need of inventory so we will also be offering top trade-in values for all makes. If you mention this e-mail when you are purchasing your new vehicle, I will give you a $100 Holmes gift card. If you are not currently in the market for a vehicle, please pass this on to a friend. If they mention this e-mail when they purchase, they'll receive a $100 Holmes gift card! Have a great day - I hope to see you soon! *2.9% APR with qualified credit for 36 months. 3.9% APR with qualified credit for up to 60 months. Available on new 2008 Honda Accord, Pilot, Odyssey, Civic and S2000 models. Expires 3-24-08.
Beware the "snake oil" at finance time!!!
by joeyjoejoe on Fri Mar 07 13:58:25 PST 2008
I've seen a couple of people mention the rust-proofing, paint sealant, interior coating......whatever, that eventually comes up when finalizing the finances. Just be sure to take a moment to actually calculate how much those extras are going to cost you. My finance person, like most, was trying to get me to roll them up as a package into the car loan. I went in knowing I could get better deals on the extended warranties, but was a little taken aback by the other intriguing extras. They try to cover the true cost of the product by adding "just and extra $10 a month" to your loan payment. Compound that over the life of your loan and...gasp...that rust-proofing will cost you like $700! Save the money and have another shop do it for you for half (if not more) as much. That's even if you really actually need these "snake oil" extras. Debatable if you ask me. Cheers!

Just tell them an online credit union like Pentagon Federal offered you 4.99% for up to 72 months and most dealers will match. As long as you print out the web page with the offer, terms, conditions, etc....they don't even need to know you are a member. I took the print-out with me when we purchased out Pilot and the dealer matched it with 72 month, 4.80%. If you need to join PenFed to get the deal (or at least the proof) you can join the National Military Family Association (NMFA) for like $25 and that gets you access to a PenFed membership. Throw like $5 in a checking acount and voila! you are a bonified PenFed member now able to get 4.99% if needed. Although not highly recommended, you could also transfer any bar auto loans to 0% balance transfer credit cards. There are numerous negatives to this method if you're not up to tracking and monitoring closely though. Good luck!
Re: bought a pilot vp 4wd for 24300 + ttl+tax+doc [sidb]
by joeyjoejoe on Sun Mar 02 08:25:45 PST 2008
We purchased an 08 AWD VP on Feb. 16th for right around $22,250. After our trade-in and taxes, title, etc... we walked out the door at $21,535. I thought this was a great price, but I think others were getting a bit better. Don't worry about what price you paid. You got a great vehicle that will keep you safe and happy. You also won't have to worry about taking it into the shop every other month for crap going bad. :-D
