I have spoken with several women who said their experiences at Holmes were less than satisfactory so they went elsewhere. I didn't have any problems but that may be because I negotiated online. As for the NE dealers I emailed: Superior came in at $30,947 with 3.9% so that would be $28,947 with the $2K dealer cash (although they didn't explicitly offer that). That was their first offer and they didn't budge when I said I had lower ones. O'Daniel came in at $28,997. Here was the accompanying text: "We pride ourselves on being able to match or beat 99.9% of all other dealer offers. Please give us chance. If you received a lower written price quote, please forward the e-mail to me and I will present it to the General Manager of our dealership and do my best to beat the deal." I sent them my best offer ($28,496 at the time) and this is his reply: "Looks like good price for the polit, but I am going to stick with my quote." I guess I was in the 0.1% (yeah, right). Bellevue sent me an initial quote of $30,947 and said they would contact me in a day or so. They never emailed or called. At this point, I was at $27,996 and figured they weren't going to come down by $3K, even with the dealer cash. I'm not saying Holmes is the best. I work with a guy who has purchased 3 Odysseys and all 3 times started at Holmes and went to Ames because he was treated poorly. Honda of Ames has been bought out by Lithia and supposedly the service is very poor there now as well. That is one of the main reasons I looked elsewhere. I had to email the guy at Lithia 3 times before he responded! I live in C.B. but am very familiar with central IA and Holmes. My sister lives in Grimes and bought her first Accord out here at Superior because Holmes wouldn't deal but bought her second one from Holmes. How aggressive were the three Omaha dealers?
Re: Quoted price on Accord EX-L V-6 w/o navi [dshmel2]

dshmel2: Check out Jordan Motors in Des Moines. I purchased my '03 EX V6 Navi Coupe there two years ago. I went to Holmes first, and ended up getting a $3,000 better deal (there was a trade involved) with Jordan Motors. They were awesome. They found the car that I wanted at another dealership, trucked it in at no charge, found a home for my trade, and got me a great rate on me loan. All at no added cost. On top of all that, I didn't even have to go to Ames. I did this all from their Des Moines Acura/Nissan location. Honestly, I don't know how Holmes sell ANY cars!

Don't go over to the dark side of Toyota because of a unscrupulous dealer. Actually, Toyota a good company, but I am a Honda bigot. I have always owned at least one Honda for the last 15 yrs with zero issues. I have sworn never to buy another brand after my last two minivans (both Dodges) cost me thousands in repairs. Don't even get me started on why I was stupid and didn't buy an Odessey in 1999. I thought I was smart saving $2000 up front. Anyhow, I found your email interesting because I almost bought my Pilot at Ed Napleton's last month. I also am from IA and was struggling to get a 2003 Pilot at a decent price. I was able to pull in an offer for a $1000 off MSRP in Omaha for a 2003 and several offered $500-$750 off, but it was my trade of a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that was killing me. No one was willing to give more than $4000-$4500. A flood of them on the market. Anyhow, in my search, I contacted Ed Napleton based on one of your earlier emails. I have a note from the internet mgr on 8/18 offering me their last 2003 Pilot (Red) - Just came available. Sounds like that might have been yours. He had earlier quoted me that he would sell me one for $750 off MSRP in early August, but I had a better deal out of Michigan for $1200 off a 2003. However, I was looking at an 8 hr drive. I had decided to wait for a 2004 EX-L by that time anyhow. Why take the depreciation on a 2003 two weeks before 2004s came out. The internet manager sent me this note on 8/29 so I am not sure what the changing market conditions were: "Here is the pricing that I have on the 2004 Pilot. The price of the vehicle is $31,620, which is a savings of $750.00 off of MSRP. There is a miscellaneous Cook County Fee of $10.00, a $50.00 Doc fee, and $460.00 for destination, and a $10.00 drive away fee (Temporary registration). Your sales tax would have to be paid in Iowa. If you would like to order a Pilot, or if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the dealership, I am here all day. Looking forward to hearing from you!!"    I was able to get this same deal at Chezik-Sayers Honda in Iowa City and they treated me a lot better with my trade ($5500) than anyone else. Honda of Ames provided me $600 off MSRP and the Superior Honda in Omaha offered $800, but I didn't want to drive 2 hrs to find out if they were going to be less than Chezik on the trade for just a $50 savings. If I remember right, the Cedar Rapids (Randy Kuehl)dealer was willing to go $500 off a 2004, but you had to specifically call the internet sales manager. I bought my 1996 civic from them and they are a great dealership. Fantastic service. Anyhow, hope you stick with the Pilot. I am now the proud owner of a 2004 Pilot Sagebrush EX-L RES. Order on 9/6 and picked up on 9/20 (one week before they had projected).
