Anyone buy an LX-P from Illinois?
by williwaw on Mon Jun 30 14:01:21 PDT 2008
Hi guys, Has anyone here gotten an attractive deal on a 4-dr LX-P in the chicago area? I've talked to dealers in MN and CA (where I currently live) and have been able to find a couple dealers willing to sell at 21.5 OTD. I decided recently it makes better sense to purchase the car in IL where I'm moving soon and have had little luck in getting any dealers to approach the 21.5 price. They are (reasonably) unwilling to price match non-IL dealers. From posts on this forum, 21.5 seems fairly ordinary, but is the chicago market that different? I was hoping to get some last day of the month windfall... but i guess not...

Hi, Maybe this website would help : http://www.revenue.state.il.us/Publications/taxratefinder.htm Remember that tax is based on where your residence is and not where you buy the car. Some dealerships will try to scam you into buying from them because they have lower tax rates in their area.

What dealership is this from? I received a quote yesterday from McGrath Honda in Elgin, IL for $20,416 (selling price only) which is $725 over invoice. It looks like your selling price is less than invoice. Anyone else in the Chicago suburbs getting below or at invoice pricing?
2008 VP Purchase from Lisle, IL
by prithis on Fri May 09 13:22:52 PDT 2008
Last Saturday I purchased a brand new 2008 4WD VP from Honda of Lisle, Illinois. The purchase price was $23,450 after some negotiation. I believe this is $3,445 below invoice for a VP. The car cost $25,481 OTD. I did not take their financing, and there was no trade-in. I got multiple email quotes from several dealers in the Chicago area, negotiated with each one through email, and then walked into Honda of Lisle with all the printouts, and they beat the lowest one (their original quote was 24,120). Not sure if anyone got a better deal than this on the VP in the Chicago area. Please post if you did.

IL in general and Chicago (I think) in particular and terrible places to lease a car - they tax the whole car just like you are buying it. Most of us only pay tax on the payment or perhaps up front on the depreciation. I would think twice about a lease in IL if I were you. If you do lease, don't put any money into the lease - at most the first payment. If your car is totalled or stolen your insurance pays off the lease bank and you get nothing. So if you pay down $3k you can kiss it buh-bye. Keep the money in the bank and use it if you need to help make a payment, but don't pay it into the deal. I don't like GAP coverage, but that is for you to decide. Check and see if that is not already covered in the lease contract (many captive lease banks include it free). Also check with your insurance company to see if that is provide through them on a lease. $500 for it is pretty much a rip off in any case. A low mile Civic in good shape should be worth the lease buy out just about any time during the lease. My insurance, for example, pays NADA clean retail money for a totalled car - and if you check that number you will see that is a fair price. Besides, if the GAP costs you $500 you can keep that in the bank just in case you DO have to pay off the car and your insurance will not pay enough to make the bank happy. I would check your credit union and get a low finance rate (some or doing 4.5% to 4.9% now) and just finance the car - if I lived where taxes are applied to the whole car on a lease. Invoice can be found here on Edmunds, KBB, carsdirect.com, and other online places. It is the same for every dealer, but some areas they do have local / regional "ad fees" added on to them. These are usually like $200 or something. Dennis
