Buying a car from a Honda Car Dealer

IL Honda Car Consumer Discussions

Re: Anybody from St. Louis, Missouri? [hondaisnumber2] by anna on Mon Sep 20 20:34:43 PDT 2004

I researched a very large area before making a final decision. I sent quote requests to Stephen Vincel Honda, Ed Napleton Honda, St. Louis Honda, Huey's Honda, and Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, IL, plus several in the KC and Chicago areas. I even went to Huey's and had a very nice salesman. After doing my research, I found Carr's Honda in Chicago to be the best deal. I went back to Meyer (which is where I purchased my first Honda in 1996) and to the salesman at Huey's..gave them the quote I had received and they both basically laughed at me. So, my husband and I took the train (after getting a faxed confirmation of the quote)up to Chicago and we picked up our EX-L in June. We had an excellent experience. No problems to date and have given two other referrals who had great experiences as well. It was worth saving $2000. Plus, they will pick you up from the airport or train station. Can't ask for more than that. I think the STL dealers think consumers won't go other places and I will do it again next time...the internet sale is the way to go. Feel free to email me if you need any info but I certainly would look outside the STL area.

Carr's in Chicago by outkastx on Wed Jun 16 23:23:13 PDT 2004

First off I'd like to thank everyone who has been posting about the Chicago dealerships... My wife and I have been car shopping for about 7 weeks and after checking out a Pilot last Saturday and test driving on Monday, she decided she really wanted one. Unfortunately, the dealer in Bloomington IL can sell at MSRP and won't negotiate at all. So I had to call the Chicago dealers to check out prices. Over the past 3 days, here's what I've gathered... Community Honda wanted 29,500 but price matched 29,100 Honda of Lisle $1200 over invoice Schaumburg Honda $29760 Grand Honda $29100 Jacobs Twin $29229 Joliet Honda $1000 over invoice Then I found this thread and learned about two other dealers with good quotes: Windy City $700 over invoice Carr's Invoice straight up We have an appointment on Friday to go buy at Carr's, I'll let everyone know how it goes. No one in Chicago will go near Carr's quote, and frankly several sounded disgusted that I'd even ask them something like "match near invoice". Also, the others have mentioned "bait and switch" and loaded up on accessories, but I'm ready to walk if something like that occurs. I'm real eager for Friday to get here to find out what's really going on... I really hope that Anna is not a fictitious character and her experience was real; I guess I'm just too much of a pessimist... ;)
