Roswell, GA Honda Car Consumer Discussions

2008 EX-L Coupe
by donsur on Tue Jul 01 13:28:39 PDT 2008
I bought a new 2008 Civic EX-L - black with gray interior from Honda Carland in Roswell Ga on June 6, 2008. I paid $20,200 for it. This dealer only had one Civic coupe with leather and this was it. Turns out that it was exactly what I was looking for. I also looked at the VW Jetta but I had a hard time communcating with that dealer. They were very stuffy. Everytime I asked them for a price, they kept saying well how much do you want to pay? Not very friendly. At Honda Carland, the sales associate communcated with me via email several times and when I went to the dealer he had everything lined up for me to see. I hate buying new cars, but this was very painless. I was there less than 2 hours total. I think I paid just where the price should be for a scarce leather coupe. Other dealers in the area didn't have any and searching the Honda Carland computer showed none available in the southeast. What do you folks think, did I do OK?
EX-L w/o RES or NAV purchased in Atlanta suburb
by steviec on Fri Sep 28 18:20:25 PDT 2007
I really wanted a 2007 Pilot, but procrastinated and waited too long. None left for about a month at least in the Atlanta market. Supposedly Honda was offering $3,500 to move the remaining few before really introducing the 2008. So, while viewing the Atlanta Honda dealers' inventory quick to notice that each dealer has rows-and-rows of Odysseys. Never thought we'd buy a minivan but we did on 9/25. Think we got a good deal. I did my research on the Internet first securing invoice price, available incentives and the discussion forums were extremely helpful. But I guess I'm old school. I did not go the route of sending e-mails to dealers to get quotes as so many of you have. I first went to several area dealers while they were closed just to get an idea of available inventory, colors, sticker prices, add-ons etc. Then, after doing all my research on the Internet, took paperwork with me and headed to three dealerships: one on Cobb Parkway, one in Roswell, and one in Woodstock. My wife wanted the 2007 EX-L, Ocean Mist (light blue) comes with gray / charcoal leather interior. MSRP + destination was $31,690. Two of the dealerships had a separate box for "appearance package" for pinstriping, mud guards etc. Additional price varied by the features offered. One dealer had the exact same vehicle with pinstriping and mud guards but w/out the extra charge. I basically worked backwards from the published invoice price of $28,159 for the EX-L plus $635 destination charge. Took $2,000 mfg's incentive off this cost. Also deducted 2% dealer holdback which most dealers will assume they will secure from the manufacture (not sure how this works really but took this off anyway). That left me at a max price to consider paying of $26,260 +/-. I then took-off another $1,000 because: tons of Odysseys at most dealerships in the Atlanta area so thinking dealers are wanting to negotiate and it was the end of the year and the end of the month. Summing, right or wrong, I went in to the Atlanta area dealerships to negotiate for a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L with mud guards and pinstriping for $25,260 including destination charge but knew it would be extra for sales tax (6%), tags, title. I came close to this: here's what we paid for a 2007 Odyssey EX-L, Ocean Mist with all the standard equipment plus mud guards and pinstriping. That's all we wanted. base price: $25,950. + customer service fee: $499. x 6.0 % Cobb Coounty sales tax = $28,036. + GA warranty right fee: $3.00 + title charge: $18.00 = $28,057 OTD After negotiating the base price and agreeing to pay the customer service fee, we then negotiated a trade-in value on our SUV separately. I knew I could have sold it privately for more but it was convenient, they gave me a decent trade-in price and it reduced my sales tax exposure. Financing through our credit union at 5.7% for 48 months. My purchasing experience with this particular dealer was excellent. I felt like I got a very good deal (emphasis on "felt like"), got a decent trade-in value, and it didn't take forever. Took a total of 3 hours from the time I walked in their dealership. Business manager didn't attempt to strong-arm me with all the service options. He tried for a minute but I just kept saying no. I can recommend a very good salesman separately. The key obviously as everyone knows is to do your homework on the Internet first. I took what I learned from one negotiation session at one dealer to the next and built on that. For example, the first dealer I visited mentioned the 2% holdback. I didn't bring it up. I used that bit of info at the next dealer I visited. At least for the 2007 Odyssey, all prospective buyers are clearly in the driver's seat. No better time to buy one than now.
Re: EX-L initial quotes coming in (all OTD) with huge variation [gavanmom]
by cillakat on Wed Sep 19 17:57:57 PDT 2007
I did talk to Honda Carland/Roswell. He came in higher than my target, then wanted to price match.....which is nice, but I didn't want to price match. i just drove home from Milton Martin Honda (Gainesville, GA) in my new EX-L white/tan that had 22 miles on it. $27,792 OTD as promised with security etching, cargo liner, muds, paint protection yadda yadda all included. He would have offered up the wheel locks I'm sure...but I had realized about a day ago that they would NEVER be used by me and would just clutter. I loved the sales guy (not supposed to use names here so we'll just say his first name started with a G:))....he was just 'good people' as they say in the south. I'd drive the drive in a heartbeat to buy every car that my family will ever own. It was that good. Not a hint of, 'well....this little fee is standard'....or 'oh yeah, that's got to be added on'. never. It was all fun, happy, community, *honesty*. You could tell people were happy being there. He bought my girls ice cream from the vending machine....walked me through all of the features of the car.....let my 8 and 6 yo tell him stories, make him nametags and more. It was delightful. Seems like a silly word to describe a car purchase, but it was. There wasn't any other place I'd rather have been. Not only was it a great place to be buying a gorgeous solid new ody but it would have been a great place to just *be*. Even without a purchase. He was telling me that they have a big cookout (ribs/ turkey fry) every year the tuesday before thanksgiving and about 250 people show up. I can see why. Honestly, we will not shop around should we need another Honda. We'll just make the drive to Gainesville. Fwiw, he was the best price out of the gate. I named my number (27.8 otd) and he came in lower. Everyone else came in higher, even just a little bit.......then when i told them I had a deal in writing, 5 dealers (of 20 or so) geographically closer offered to price match to 'save me the drive'. Quite frankly, if you could have gone lower, why didn't you in the first place? I told them 'no thanks', i'll drive further for the guy who was willing to go further for me. He did the right thing, I'll respond in kind by doing the right thing. I am so glad I drove the next 20 minutes for what I think is probably the best car buying experience one could have. Anywhere. All the best, K in atlanta
Re: Buying out of state? [mintjulep]

Just joining today but had to put in my 2 cents on this subject. I saved a lot of money by buying a car from GA instead of my state of SC. That is about 7% which is over 1k. I called around after viewing auto trader prices and got the best deal from Honda Carland in Roswell. The price they gave me on the phone was truly the total I paid the next day. No negotiating and no bull. It was a great deal when I see the mark ups form some dealers.

2007 Honda Accord EX-L V6 AT
by jmdshort on Sat Mar 03 19:34:24 PST 2007
w/ Fog Lights, Splash Guards, and Floor Mats... $ 26K out the door from Honda Carland in Roswell, GA. While I don't have the breakdown of my base price ($ 23,740), I am fairly certain that I got it for about $1K - $ 1,250 below invoice. Purchase was initially handled via fax, phone and email with several other local dealerships (thanks to Fighting Chance for teaching me that process) and then finalized with Carland.
