Re: Dealers taking advantage of Cash for Cars [jojobar]
by brickbradford on Sat Aug 01 07:39:18 PDT 2009
Several of the dealers I worked with when looking for my Fit kept trying to charge FL sales tax on the $4500 cash for clunkers part. This dealer I closed the deal with did not charge it, so those others kept jacking up the OTD price by collecting sales tax that was unnecessary. By the way, on the cash for clunkers deal where they asked me for the $4500 extra check in case the dealer didn't get the money from the government, I put a stop to that check. A lawyer advised me that since I have all the signed paper work completing the deal, that extra check was unnecessary as hell, and I own the car. How the dealer gets their money is up to them. I sent the dealer a certified letter recapping how I even offered to undo the deal, how they never told me the alternatives and concerns, and if my trade in would be returned to me or not. they just evaded answering. I think the deal will go through any way, but I will never do business with that dealer (although I got the car for $18300 OTD, in spite of the $600 plus dealer admin fee they charge here in FL), which is what I wanted. The deceptive tactics on closing, actually after the closing had been consummated, are not good. When they delivered the car it was missing the floor mats they had told us came with the car. The salesman tried to sneak out of providing them, but we made them find floor mats and install them. The price of floor mats something over $100. I don't remember the exact price. They want, at that dealership, over $500 to order and install a center consoler with arm rests for both driver and passenger. That's not a good way to do business. I'll never go back there to buy any cars in the future. The dealership is located near Lakeland, in Wesley Chapel.

Tampa 08 Odyssey EX-L w/o RES or NAV
by tampa08ody on Sun Oct 26 19:38:42 PDT 2008
I purchased a 2008 Odyssey EX-L w/o RES or NAV on Tuesday, 10/14/08. I received a lot of great information from this forum with regard to price and strategy, so I wanted to give back. I purchased from Regal Honda of Lakeland, FL. Here is what I paid: SELLING PRICE*$25,400.00 DEALER INSTALLED ACCESSORIES$0.00 TRADE ALLOWANCE*$0.00 TRADE DIFFERENCE$25,400.00 CUSTOMER SERVICE FEE$369.00 ELECTRONIC TAG FILING FEE$24.00 TIRE/BATTERY WASTE FEE$6.50 AMOUNT TAXABLE FROM ABOVE$25,799.50 COUNTY TAX$50.00 SALES TAX$1,547.97 Motor Vehicle Warranty Trust Fund$2.00 LICENSE PLATE FEE$210.00 TOTAL CASH DIFFERENCE$27,609.47 BALANCED OWED ON TRADE$0.00 DEPOSIT$0.00 TOTAL$27,609.47 We ended up doing a trade which is not reflected here. But the price of the car did not change from what we were quoted via email (I pasted the above from their email to me). In fact, they transferred the tag for us, which is about $100 cheaper than a new tag, and passed those savings on to us. We also got the Honda financing (2.9% for 60 months) and declined the extended warranty, gap insurance, service plan, etc. We had a great experience from Regal Honda of Lakeland. :D They answered all of our questions promptly and delivered exactly what they promised. They also accommodated our schedule (we closed at about 9 pm on a Tuesday). We accepted their offer online before we drove from Tampa to Lakeland. There was no wasted time or bs at the dealer. The only minor exception was a strong pitch from the biz manager to sell us extended warranty, etc. We declined after a little back and forth and were on our way home in our new car. We also had very positive experiences with the following dealers in the area: - Venice Honda - :D - First dealer to provide an OTD price and breakdown via email. Very nice and informative throughout without being pushy. Only reason we did not go with him is that he could not get close to the above price. - Crown Honda of Pinellas Park - :D - Almost as prompt as Venice Honda. Answered all of our questions and provided other useful information. Did not have the color we wanted. I would steer clear of Tampa Hondaland. They seemed like a bunch of jerks. But don't take my word for it. Check out the reviews on DealerRater.com. I did not read these until after the fact, but I feel like we dodged a bullet. Also, don't bother with Gateway Honda of Port Richey is you want to negotiate via email. These guys would not communicate via email. We are very happy with our new car. Good luck with your purchase!

SamsVans: We obtained an 07 Touring with DVD & Navi (Nimbus/OIive), door edge guards, wheel locks, pin striping, and wheel well paint (plus 2 full tanks of gas and 2 free oil changes) from Kuhn Honda in Tampa (using quote from Regal Honda Lakeland, who has lower dealer fee $299): $32, 682.57 (includes $635 destination)+ $599.99 dealer fee + $2065 FL tax = $35,348 OTD. I thought this was a great price. I did purchase a 5 year, unlimited mile road hazard warranty for $280. Though, I am always very leary, I was assured it will cover the PAX tires for hazards. My salesman was great; very personable, not high pressure. You can email me for contact info for both Kuhn and Regal: honda2004tampa@hotmail.com
Si sedan (Mrgillam)
by 67gtx on Mon Jun 04 15:40:38 PDT 2007
I got mine at Regal Honda in Lakeland, FL 19800+369 dealer fee plus fees. The local dealers here in Orlando were all right around invoice plus anywhere from 499 to 649 dealer fee which is a big dealer profit ripoff that all Florida dealers charge. Another thought would be to check Ebay. There are several new ones there for a 20500 Buy It Now price; not sure if there is a dealer fee involved. Also right now, there is a black Si sedan with clean CarFax and 6000 miles at a dealer in Texas, the Buy It Now price is 19500. Good luck.
