Buying a car from a Honda Car Dealer
There are no "hidden" fees; a prudent buyer knows that these fees are there and you can always ask, what they are in advance. Some of them are additional mark ups that you don't have to pay because you can negotiate those down or off (like etching, under coating, floor mats, etc.). When buying a new car, you can negotiate directly with the sales manager thus eliminate one profit center - the salesperson and the related never ending "let me check with the manager" routine. Instead of them asking you "how much you want to pay for a car, ask them, how much they want to make. If you have a trade in, don't mention it. That you can add, once you agree on a price. Always negotiate a car price as if you are paying cash. Many dealers will ask you what monthly payments you are looking for, rather than disclosing a cash price of a vehicle. Agree on a cash price first. The financing (another profit center at dealer's F&I) can be negotiated later. Last time I bought a new car, I was told $ 300 over "dealer's invoice". Then I went home, did my homework and came back with a figure. I also asked them to show me "the invoice" (and they did) and I was only a couple of dollars off because I was not familiar with the advertising costs that are passed on to a dealer by importer/distributor. You don't have to feel "guilty" about them not making reasonable profit. You can be rest assured that they made more than $ 300 with all the incentives, holdbacks, dealer's arranged financing, etc.etc. An honest dealer would have no problem with above suggested procedure although most dealers would not want you to leave and come back "wiser". If he is not willing to do so, move on and find one that will. Above all, don't "fall in love" with the car before you buy it! Keep your emotions at bay! I have done it many times in several different States - CA, NV, AZ, AL, OK, NY, FL - just to mention a few places, where I have resided.
Just inked a lease on the following: 2010 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan Options: trunk tray, splash guards, wheel locks, nitrogen filled tires 36 months 12k mi/yr $0 due at signing (everything rolled into payment including first month) $340 / mo including tax My dealer will do this deal all day long so if you want the info let me know. I'm in the Tampa Bay area.
I am in the Tampa Bay FL area. Yesterday I picked up a 2009 Honda Accord LXP (auto) for $20,500 OTD. We shopped at two dealers. At the first dealer, we offered $20,000 OTD and they negotiated to $20,800 OTD. The manager would not budge and he let us walk out and we did. We went to the second dealer and negotiated with them for $20,500 OTD and we got the car. We drive home in the new car that night. When we got home, a relative at the home said the first dealer called asking for us. The relative was in a hurry and was not able to take a message so I don't know what the first dealer wanted. Maybe they made another offer, we don't know or care. We already got our new car.
Just bought a 2009 EX-L. Price was $29,745 OTD (everything). No trade in. No financing. Checked around a lot. Felt this was about the best I could do in this area. The dealership is professional and low key. This is the 2nd Ody I've purchased from them. In and out in 1 hour. Everything was as agreed to over the Internet and phone. Southeastern Honda in Palm Bay, FL.
This pass Saturday I went to Southeastern Honda, Palm Bay, FL, took a test drive and feel in love! I sat down with the Salesmen and asked for a quote on a Honda Accord Coupe, Black, EX-L V6, with navigation and back up sensor. Salesmen said "if I give you the best price offer would I sign today"? Believing him I took an offer on a lease, 36 months, 15k mileage, $3500.00 down, with a monthly payment of $440.00. He said he would have the car on Monday. Spoke to him on Monday and was told he was waiting for another dealership to contact him. At that point I started checking on line (Edmunds.com) and found I could get the car much cheaper. I got a quote from another dealer for 36mon, 15k milage, $4,248.92 down, with a monthly payment of $373.92. My question is can I re-negotiate with Southeastern Honda and get that price, or will I loss my $2000.00 and go with the other dealer? As of today still haven't seen the car but I have made arrangements with the salemen to meet tomorrow to see what he can do for me...
