Price Paid in San Diego, CA for 2007 CR-V EX-L 2WD w/o Nav
by greatidea on Sat Jun 16 01:52:44 PDT 2007
Hello everyone. I have been lurking here for the past 3 months, trying to educate myself on the art of getting a great deal. Well, today I tried to apply those skills and got the following deal: Today, 06/15/2007 I purchased a Glacier Blue 2007 Honda EX-L 2WD (no Nav) for $24,604 before TT&L. This price includes destination charge and some things that all the dealers seem to add such as cargo tray, splash guards, door edge guards, and wheel locks. I also got them to throw in cross rails for the roof rack. The finance guy matched Saccucci's price for Honda Care extended warranty, I bought the 8 year / 120,000 for $985. (He said this was dealer cost.) Also purchased the "Active" alarm, for $389.00 which he said was dealer cost. This is different from the passive theft deterrent that is included with the vehicle. Having an active alarm saves me 20% on my car insurance from Safeco. Doc and DMV Fees were $313.75 Sales tax was $1941.22 Final OTD price with extended warranty and alarm was $28232.97 Purchased from Tipton Honda, El Cajon, CA. (A few minutes East of San Diego.) I just emailed several dealers around San Diego. Tipton's internet department's first offer was very good, and they were willing to beat anyone else. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good deal here in San Diego. Thanks to everyone who has posted, as I really appreciate the information you provided. The knowledge you provided certainly helped me get a deal that I am very happy with. - Jay
2007 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5A)
by minhsdsu on Tue Apr 10 08:24:27 PDT 2007
Just wanted to share my recent buying experience (4/7/07)... We went to TIPTON Honda in El Cajon first and the salesman wouldn't budge below $16,944. He said he was not willing to throw in the trunk tray at that price either. However, he did offer a year's service, but again was not willing to put down in writing what that would include. I hate that dealership, high pressure and never a straight answer. Finally, we went to PACIFIC Honda where I bought my 2004 Civic and was able to close a deal. Helped my brother get a NEW 2007 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5A), all standard LX features plus the trunk tray and splash guards for $16,800 plus TTL. :D He bought a Consumer Reports "New Car Price Service" and it stated the Invoice was around $16,323 (not including the $595 Destination & Handling). I think the lowest price I've seen here, was $16,744, so all in all we feel we got a pretty darn good deal. Good luck to all, and stick to your guns.
CR-V LX 2WD
by donkeypuncher on Tue Mar 06 16:23:35 PST 2007
Purchased a silver 2007 CR-V LX 2WD (MSRP $21,195) for $19,900 plus TTL ($21,700 OTD) from Penske Honda in Ontario, CA a couple of weeks ago. Spent about three weeks soliciting quotes from various Southern California Honda dealers. Fuller Honda in Chula Vista gave an internet quote of $20,445 plus TTL which included a cargo tray, wheel locks and splash guards at no additional cost. Visited the dealer and the price went down to $21,900 OTD but for a white LX If I wanted silver, it would be $22,200 OTD for “one on the way.” Hoehn Honda gave an internet quote of $20,547 plus TTL. This dealer wasn’t pushy but I did not pursue the offer. Ball Honda in National City gave an internet quote of $20,665 plus TTL which included roof rack, wheel locks, splash guards, cargo tray and wheel moldings. This dealer wasn’t pushy either but I didn’t pursue the offer since I haven’t heard many great things when dealing with the Mile of Cars. Poway Honda offered an internet quote of $20,648 plus TTL. Visited the dealer and the price given was $22,000 OTD but for beige only. No silver in stock. Pacific Honda only offered MSRP of $21,195 plus TTL since the CR-V was “scarce.” Since other dealers were giving below MSRP quotes, I avoided this dealer. I contacted one of the internet managers at DCH Honda in Temecula and asked if they could beat the $21,900 OTD which included the accessories and he came back with a higher quote of $22,900 OTD. One of the internet managers at Tipton Honda in El Cajon was very arrogant. He added $1000-1500 on top of MSRP plus TTL on any CR-V model I asked about. For an LX, he gave a phone quote of $22,195 plus TTL. When I declined because I was able to get an OTD price of $21,900 from Fuller Honda, he started to bad mouth Fuller and criticized their business practices going on to say Fuller lures you down there then ends up tacking on another $2K on top of what they quoted you. To refute what he was saying I told him I got a similar deal from Poway Honda so he started to hurl insults at me…at this point I thanked him for his time then hung up on the loser mid-sentence. Spirit Honda in El Monte gave an internet quote of $20,500 plus TTL. I emailed back with my best offer from Fuller Honda and did not get a response. I received a follow-up email for the LX a week later but the quote went up to $20,900 plus TTL. Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos would not go below MSRP on the LX due to limited inventory. This dealer claims to be the #1 Honda Dealer in the USA in volume sales and that they are never knowingly undersold. I was not willing to pay MSRP so I emailed the initial internet manager I was working with, gave him my best quote received and reminded him of Norm Reeves’ claims. He never responded and must have been insulted cause he turned it over to another internet manager who later emailed me and said they would only sell for MSRP….so they were willing to be knowingly undersold. Received a flyer in the mail that had Penske Honda listed on the back. I checked them out online and requested a quote. One of the internet managers contacted me the next day and I gave him my best quote of $21,900 OTD. He called back and offered $21,700 OTD for the silver LX with black interior. I was ready to go up to make the purchase and he called to let me know that the silver LX with black interior had a roof rack installed but he just received a silver LX with gray interior 30 minutes before his phone call. No problem. He held the car and I went up to complete the transaction. I couldn’t get them to throw in any accessories but if I wanted, they could’ve sold me a tango red LX 2WD which included splash guards for the same price as the silver. Took the silver as color was more important and used Bernardi Parts to get the accessories. Took about 15 minutes to install the splash guards and cargo cover. I could have bargained with a local San Diego dealer to match or beat the price but I too was tired of the process, tired of the BS prices given when I told them I wanted silver and didn’t want to leave a deposit for one on the way.
Bought 2005 Ody LX - San Diego/North OC area
by odylxowner on Sat Jul 23 12:23:54 PDT 2005
I couldn't find any mention in this discussion board about buying in San Diego county, and nobody seems to be buying LX's either. Here is my experience. I started out looking for a used low-mileage Ody, but the prices were so high, I decided to go with a new LX with no dealer-added accessories. The features I was most interested in were standard, namely the electronic stabilization control (new in 2005) and the other safety equipment, standard on all Ody models (except for the tire pressure feedback - I wish this had been an option on the LX). First let me say that all the dealers had a $45 doc prep fee, so I don't have to bring that up again. I asked for quotes via the internet. The first quote I got was from Cush Honda for $1500 over invoice (invoice is $23,186 incl. destination) plus over $200 for dealer-added muguards and wheel locks, even though I didn't want them. Poway Honda's e-mail didn't give me a quote. It said I would have to make an appointment. I decided not to call them. I test drove an Odyssey at Hoehn Motors and later talked to the salesman by phone. I told him about the Cush offer. He said that he wasn't authorized to give me a definite price, that he would have to get approval from his supervisor after we agreed on a price. That's the type of negotiation I wanted to avoid. He asked if I would buy it for $1000 over invoice, then $750 over invoice. I told him I was looking for a price close to invoice. He said "you'll never get invoice. That's just not going to happen." Then I asked for quotes (via internet) from a couple of dealers in southern Orange County. Family Honda didn't respond. Power Honda in Costa Mesa sent a quote of $750 over invoice. Then I got a call from Power Honda. They said no charge for mudguards or wheel locks. Plus they would pick me up and give me a ride to the dealership (at least an hour drive!). They had one LX in stock - in Sage Brush. I contacted Cush Honda again, and they said they couldn't match Power Honda, period. In fact, they couldn't come down from their initial offer unless I came in to the dealership. Then I e-mailed Tipton Honda in El Cajon and asked if they could beat Power's offer. I got a phone call back from a salesman who said if I had the quote in writing or an e-mail (which I did), he would beat it by $400. And no charge for mudguards etc. They had one LX, silver. Power Honda came back with an offer of $100 over invoice. Tipton said they would match it. But their shuttle service only goes 11 miles from the dealership. He said he would see if he could arrange a ride, but it would cost me (he didn't know how much) and he would call me the next morning. I went to a dealer that evening to see what Sage Brush looked like. I didn't really care for it, and I liked the silver. I called Tipton Honda the next morning. But I couldn't reach the salesman I had been dealing with. Finally I talked to another salesman, who said he would call me right back himself if the other salesman couldn't. But he didn't call back. I finally reached the original salesman after 1 p.m. (he had said he would call me that morning - I wondered if something funny was going on). He said he had been busy selling 3 cars. I asked him to add up all the charges and give me an OTD price. He hadn't done this yet, and I didn't want any surprises after I got there. He said first he wanted me to forward the other quote so he could show it to his manager. Then, before I had a chance to do that, he called back and said his manager told him the best he could do was $500 over invoice. Needless to say, I was not pleased and let him know it. He said the other dealer just wanted to get me to the dealership and then they would add extra charges. I called Power Honda back and accepted their offer. Unfortunately, the LX had already been sold (the night before), but the salesman said he could trade with another dealer. He called back within 10 minutes and said he had found a silver LX. About 2 hours later, someone arrived to take me to the dealership (extremely interesting conversation for an hour and a half). Everything went smoothly, and there were no surprises. I paid by check. I declined the extended warranty offers. I couldn't have been happier with the service or the price. Odyssey LX (with mud guards - no charge) Cash price: $23,286.00 (22,771+515 dest.) Doc prep fee: 45.00 Sales tax: 1,808.15 Lic & tire fees: 218.75 TotaI price: $25,357.90 Postscript: I got a call later from Tipton Honda from a different salesman. He apologized for not getting back to me and said that my original salesman had quit. He asked if I was still interested and I said no (I was waiting for my ride to Power Honda when he called). This was yesterday. I got another call from Tipton today with the same story. Hmm...
San Diego Odyssey EX prices
by gagrice on Tue Jan 11 09:57:52 PST 2005
I have only checked with one dealer in El Cajon, CA. He is charging $3000 dealer mark up over the MSRP price for an EX-L with NAV/RES. He also has an HAH on the lot for $3000 over MSRP. If anyone is looking for a bad deal on a Honda.
