2009 CRV 4WD EX-L
by reoland on Sat Feb 07 13:45:10 PST 2009
After reading through this forum, I gained a lot to do my own searching for a 2009 CRV 4WD EX-L. So far the lowest offer is $23,630. OTD would be $25,751. This include a stimulus add ons. Which is the ff: An additional $200 OFF YOUR BEST PRICE QUOTE (hopefully ours was the best, if it was take an additional $200 OFF). They add this to my OTD price. * FREE Alarm System, which is already installed unless we have to dealertrade for your vehicle *FREE Protection Package for your vehicle, this includes (Wheel Locks, All Season Floor Mats, and Trunk Tray). Is this a good price? Tell me guys so I could get it tomorrow. This is in San Bernardino, CA

I just bought a 2007 Civic Sedan (Auto LX) in Galaxy Grey today in San Bernardino, Southern California. This is my experience; take it for what it is worth. I researched the car, trim line, and purchased the Honda Civic Sedan Packet from Fightingchance.com. Using Honda’s website, on 6/26/2007, I sent faxes to approximately 25 dealers located in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino County. I immediately began receiving calls and emails. Most everybody was professional, a few tried waiting to see what others would be offering. Here are the numbers broken down: Invoice $16,555.71; Doc Fee $55.00; Sales Tax $1287.33; DMV Electronic Filing Fee $28.00, License Fee $107.00; Registration Fee $60.00, CA Tire Fee $8.75 for a total of $18,101.79-- and my cashier’s check was for the same amount. I dealt with the internet manager and it is my understanding that they were very close to hitting a sales goal and my sale was just one more with 3 sales days left. Yes, I did have to travel 2 hours away, and the whole process took a couple of days. However, it was a calm, stress free transaction. When you go to Costco, Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc, do you wait for the clerk to come back from the manager’s office with his/her best deal on that new polo shirt or color tv? IMHO you are a fool to go into a dealer to negotiate the price of an automobile. A car is just an expensive commodity; let the dealers fight for your sale. Timing is everything, increase your odds for price reductions by buying on the the slow days (Tues, Wed, Thurs) of the last week of the month. Think like a dealership. At the end of the month, everybody wants to know how many cars did we sell? Not, how much profit did we make on each car! The dealership will receive additional compensation through hold back and other manufacturer incentive plans. Finally, if two people paid the same price for the same model and trim, somebody at the dealership made a mistake! heyrey PS. The other post with the goal of an getting an OTD of $17500 is going to be a challenge.
Buying experience and comments

Here's my experience getting a new 2006 Odyssey EX in the Riverside/San Bernardino CA area. I got the AAA and the Costco prices, and used the Edmunds system to get 3 e-mail quotes. I'll give the results relative to the lowest (from Rock Honda in Fontana). Dealer A: $30 more Dealer B: $340 more Costco: $800 more AAA: $1,500 more I won't give the total dollar figures, because I'm sure these will change as the end of the model year gets closer. It's very nice to be paying somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500 below Invoice (note: below Invoice, not just below MSRP) for exactly the car we wanted! My guess is that Costco works better for cars selling closer to the MSRP, and not so well at the end of the model year. We went to Rock Honda, and had a completely satisfactory buying experience - no surprises, no unexpected fees, pleasant/competent people, etc. Perhaps we could have gotten the dealers to bid against each other and have gotten the price down a bit more, but the people at Rock Honda were great to work with, it's 100+ degrees, gas is >$3.00, and we have far more enjoyable ways to spend our time than haggling. Suggestions and comments: 1. Get the Costco and other fleet prices, and be sure to use the Edmunds system to get quotes from dealers in your area (use different ZIP codes if you don't get as many dealers as you'd like to have bids from). 2. We got an extended warranty through the dealer. To get the best price, get the figures from www.myhondawarranty.com and show them to the dealer. The dealer will be likely to be reasonably close to those prices. 3. Most of the cars on the lots have a leather-wrapped steering wheel. I REALLY like the feel of the rubberized stock steering wheel. There were two cars sitting in the sun on the dealer's lot, and the rubberized one seemed cooler than the leather-wrapped one. 4. We've seen no evidence of the steering wheel shimmy other people have talked about on the Odyssey, and no evidence of the 2000 rpm "blowing across a soft drink bottle" sound. But we haven't gone over 60 mph yet. 5. First thing tomorrow I'm going to take some gutter screen and cable ties, and attach the screen inside the lower air intake to protect the grill and pipes from rocks (as other people on forums have discussed). 6. Then I'm going to take two cans of Scotchgard and spray all the cloth and rugs (we like cloth better than leather) 7. What we did find, on opening the front door in the garage and bumping a cabinet, is that the black vinyl (or whatever it is) on the edge of top portion of the door must be about 3 molecules thick. About a 1" long strip rubbed off on the edge of the door, exposing the white metal underneath. Cheap, cheap, cheap! Off to Home Depot to get some liquid rubber. Otherwise, the car is great! And THANK YOU THANK YOU Edmunds for the system for getting prices from the internet sales departments of dealers, and for the forums so we can find out likely trouble spots for cars! I hope that Edmunds realizes what a great service they provide to consumers!

Sure, no problem. You will pay $45 doc fee, $15 one way DMV registration pass to drive out of state. There is tax reciprocity between AZ and CA, so you pay tax only 1 time. You will however pay the higher of the taxes. Phoenix and Tempe are 8.1%, Mesa and Avondale are 7.8%. And thats all the tax info I know about AZ as I live in the Phoenix metro area. LA county you will pay 8.2% and San Berardino county you will pay 7.75%. At the end of the day, all the taxes are gonna be real dang close. However, you will not be hosed with junk fees in CA. All posters who have bought in LA area all report only $45 doc, in AZ you will get soaked for $300. You will need to register and tag your car immediately when getting back to your home town, so dont leave the dealer without your title or proof of ownership. There are several dealers in LA area that are mentioned multiple times in this thread with strong reputations. I bought at Spirit Honda and absolutely cherish the no hassle experience. I was also willing to buy from Rock Honda but they couldnt come up with the color I wanted. Both of those dealers are directly off of I-10 and a 350 mile trip to metro Phoenix. Buying in San Bernardino will save you $50 in tax for every $10,000 you spend on the car, FYI. I and several other posters here give extremely high regard and reputation to Spirit Honda, in El Monte CA. They are in LA county so the tax is the higher rate. However, if you are in the market for an automatic car, you should have no problem finding it at a San Bernardino dealer and save yourself a few bucks on tax. Going through the experience just last weekend, I would do it all over again without even thinking twice. I saved almost $900 total at the end of my deal, all factors considered, and that is a fair chunck of change in my opinion and well worth the 2 days I sacraficed to get it done. I also paid cash, so that was a big contributing factor to my experience. I laid the cashiers check on the table for the pre-nogotiated price, and an hour later was on my way. If you finance, you should be sure to get it out of the way before you make the trip. Let me know if you need any other info.
