2009 Civic EX Sedan AT
by Cucumbird on Sat Jan 24 19:13:30 PST 2009
I purchased a new 2009 Civic EX Sedan with Automatic Transmission for $18,088 (including destination), plus Tax (7.75% in CA), Title, License, Registration, and Documentation ($55) fees from Diamond Honda in Puente Hills, California. Out the door, it was under $19,800. I was not interested in any of the dealer add-ons such as mud flaps or wheel locks. I had shopped around for pricing through fleet and internet sales including the Costco Auto program, local dealerships, and overstock.com. Shortly after the $500 dealer marketing support incentive took effect this month, overstock.com was offering the model I wanted for $18,185. (Note that the overstock.com price is affected by the ZIP code entered, since it depends on the participating dealers nearby as well as their fluctuations in price). I was planning to purchase from the overstock dealer in Corona, but stopped by Diamond Honda first and was offered a better deal. In terms of customer service, it had seemed okay at the time of making the purchase. When inspecting the car I had noticed that sections of the rubber seal on the door frame were pulling away for two of the doors. The problems with the seals were obvious, especially when comparing them against the corresponding doors which had no such problems. I made sure that the problem was documented and that an appointment was scheduled to correct it. When I went in for the scheduled appointment, the associate service manager took a look at the problem and claimed that there was nothing wrong. For the areas in question, he pulled out a section of the rubber seal and jammed it back in, saying that this type of situation is normal since the seal is not held in place by glue. I noticed that the areas he supposedly 'fixed' immediately began to pull away again, returning to the same state as before. He would not acknowledge that there was a problem, even after I had pointed out that the seals on two of the other doors did not exhibit such issues and that his attempt did nothing to fix it. In the end neither the associate service manager nor the internet sales manager which I had purchased the car from was willing to provide an adequate solution. The issue with the seals is a direct result of defects in workmanship or materials. Assuming that the rubber seal had nothing wrong in terms of materials then it was not installed correctly, thus a problem with workmanship. And assuming that the workmanship to install the rubber seal was performed correctly, then its pulling away is likely the result of defective materials (such as the part being deformed and not fitting correctly). If both the workmanship and materials were sufficient, then all four seals would be free of noticeable problems instead of only two. Overall I am extremely dissatisfied with the poor level of customer service from Diamond Honda's service center, which did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue (the issue was even acknowledged at the time of sale). The level of customer service from the internet sales manager while negotiating the price and completing the purchase was okay; For those considering this dealership, I would recommend either: (1) Buying from another dealer who can match/beat their price and level of customer service during purchase, and which has a service center that will actually solve problems, or (2) Purchasing from this dealer only after performing a thorough inspection of the vehicle to make sure that nothing is wrong (and if anything is wrong whatsoever, insist on a different car in stock), because their service center may not meet any reasonable expectations to fix defects regardless of what is promised. After my experience with Diamond Honda's service department, I now refuse to go back to it. For any maintenance which needs to be performed in the future, I will take my business to one of the other dealerships to see how well their service centers treat customers. While I will not completely rule out this dealership in the future for the purposes of buying a new car, it will only be under consideration if they can provide the lowest price and a vehicle free of defects. Continuing with the topic of dealership experiences, while price shopping I had visited other dealers in Southern California. The fleet/internet sales manager at Metro Honda (Montclair) was friendly and straightforward; while in my case I found a lower price elsewhere, he was reasonable and I would definitely consider that dealership in the future. The internet sales manager at Penske Honda (Ontario) was courteous; but the pricing wasn't really competitive compared to some of the others, despite claims that they could match prices and offer the best deal due to high volume. Rock Honda (Fontana) was one of the biggest wastes of time out of all the dealerships I had visited when comparing prices; Admittedly, I should have asked for their fleet/internet sales manager right from the beginning. I talked with someone who was most likely a regular salesman, and who tried to get me to commit to a specific vehicle number in stock before even before offering a price (and when he did make an offer, it was above Sticker Price). Since I already had offers significantly below Invoice, I decided not to waste any more time and walked out. This forum was a useful resource to me, and I decided to share my experiences as well. Your mileage may vary.
SoCal EX-L w/ RES & NAVI
by dr_g on Mon Dec 22 18:47:13 PST 2008
So after I had the wife spend about 4 hours calling almost every local dealer in SoCal, I found about 8 new EX-Ls w/ RES & NAVI - one of them being the white one mentioned above that had 5k miles on it. After driving to Penske Honda in Ontario I have to say they are rude and unorganized. A sales rep hung up on my wife yesterday when she refused to give her phone number (I don't think we're allowed to post names or I would). My wife did call again (she's persistent) and spoke to a nice rep who said there was a Green Metallic (probably the most popular color) so we went there first thing in the morning. 1/2 way through the test drive I realized it was a 2009 (saw the key tag sitting at a red light - I didn't even bother looking at the grill). They had no 2008 w/ RES & NAVI. He assumed it was an '08 by where it was parked. An understandable mistake if you're lazy - all they have to do is look up inventory. Wife and I then drove to Honda Cars of Corona since they had a black/ivory one left. Car looked a little beat up inside for having only 25 miles. Tried to haggle with the sales rep and he refused to budge for 20 minutes. 5 hours later we agreed to 28,750 plus 1,400 for 7/100K extended warranty + TTL. It had a protection pack on it which I don't need for 450, but I know they can't strip that off the car easily so I was willing to go above the 29.5k mentioned here. I wanted to see if I could get the online extended warranty mentioned here but I remember somebody said CA residents couldn't buy it and the finance guy kept underbidding until I agreed to 1400 (I paid only 1k for my 2006 TL which I bought for 32.5k). All docs and fees were normal (not inflated) prices. Woodland Hills had a black ivory, Vista has a Blue, Palmdale (have fun driving there) has a silver. Think there are a few burgundy as well, a white one somewhere, a demo white in Irvine. Let me guys know what you think of the above deal and good luck with the hunt for 2008 EX-L w/ RES & NAVI - in SoCal it's getting slim pickings.
New 08 Touring in Southwest
by bigsmoky on Sun Dec 21 00:36:08 PST 2008
Just purchased a new 2008 Ody Touring (no PAX). Price $33,750 plus $250 dealer add-ons (could not avoid) and $400 documentation (many dealers charged $350 for documentation) = $34,400 plus tax/title. This model was difficult to find. By mid Dec, there were none left in CA and only a few on AZ. We ended up purchasing from Right Honda in Scottsdale, AZ. Internet sales dept was very helpful. There were few dealers who gave competitive quotes in our SoCal area. Dealers who were helpful and had seemed to have good internet sales depts: Galpin Honda Honda of Corona SanTan Honda Incidentally, several 08 RES/NAVS were still available in SoCal and AZ. Quotes we received were $29,400 plus tax/title.
Honda Od EXL no/RES 2007 from Penske Honda Ontario CA
by htnam on Tue Dec 04 00:41:43 PST 2007
This post helped me a lot, thus I thought I ought to share my lease today. I just picked up a white Honda Od from Penske Honda. It was great experience. The whole ordeal took only 1 & 1/2 hrs, as compare to 4hrs last time at Nissan Dealer. I saved almost $400 from another nearby dealer nearby after the sale man change his number once I sit at his desk. He asked me extra $11 more on top of agree $400/month and $875 to drive off (that included 1st month & license fee). Here what I end up got for today, EXL no RES 2007 36months/12K miles $393 plus tax (7.75% Corona CA) $715 to drive off (that included 1st month & license fee). price 26,600 I like this van already, only thing I realize that there is not aux jack/mp3 support for 2007.
Re: Below invoice Touring [pusterracing]

It depends on what color of the touring ody you are looking for, if they you want and is sitting on their lot you might get a good deal. I started my researched about 7 days ago, and bought the car Touring ody I wanted (black ext/black L-interior, Navi+DVDres). I ask for diff. quotes the best one is Spreen Honda@ Loma Linda (so.cal) @ $35,441 (true invoice price incl. dest.) but they don't have the one I wanted. However, Buena Park Honda (so.cal)was willing to work with me and to look for a black ODY i wanted I can even negotiate the price, Sweet! They called me Sunday (4/9/06) they said they have the car I wanted (I found they made a deal with Corona Honda called "trade-in", Lingo by dealerships). I did a physical inspection (passed) skipped on the test drive (test drove touring on 3 occasions), Odometer reads 30 miles (they drove the ody from Corona to deliver, which is about 20 miles away) I'm fine with this. I offered $36,441 (incl. dest.) but they disclosed to me the dealer addons on the car (wheel lock, cargo tray, mud guard, door strip guard) for $440. My sales man and his partner really did their job professionally, I usually don't want the add ons and let them know about it, but the scenario is different. So, I have the price in writing @ $36,881+TTL,fees. Total Cost $40,222. I traded in my 04 Prius, Silver with Option#9 (navi and the works), Odo reads @ 39,380 in good condition. I was direct with them that researched my trade really well and I know for sure I won't be upside down. In the middle of my transaction/negotiation, they mentioned I am Negative Equity on my trade they avoided the word upside down by @1,000. I told them I owed $20,779 they appraised it for a $1,000 less. I said no way, I told to call a Toyota Dealer and ask for a "Buy-Bid" figures. A few moments later they valued my trade in @ $20,800 and apologized that their appraisal guy forgot to do the "buy-bid". Now, I have the Ody I wanted for the price that I am willing to pay for and I protected my trade in value for my prius. Also, during the course of my research on the 06 ODY, Touring Black ext.on Black int. is hard to find, but if you can patiently wait the dealer can order it for you.
sepy- I am interested....
