Buying a car from a GMC Car Dealer

Acadia, CX9, Pilot
by nuzy on Wed Jun 24 06:51:28 PDT 2009
We test drove the GMC Acadia, Mazda CX9, and Honda Pilot a couple weeks ago (all 2009 and AWD/4WD). Right now we have narrowed it down to the CX9 or Pilot. The GMC dealer really turned us off and it felt like they were pressuring us to buy now. Stories about how they had 50+ inventory (or 80+ depending on who you talk to) on the lot only a month ago, how people were buying sight unseen, waiting at the front door for the truck to unload...blah blah blah. We drove a SLT1 with rear DVD, dual sunroof, visibility pkg, power liftgate, trailering pkg, remote start, 115v power outlet. We like the Acadia, but feel like we can get more for out money for a comparably equipped CX9 or Pilot. In our opinion, the biggest thing we lose by not getting the Acadia is that the other two don't have the 2nd row captains seats, but we can get over that. It is also larger and has a few more convenience items than the others, but those things are minor to us. We had no intention of buying or even talking price, but the saleperson asked us to sit down anyway, and I was curious what he'd throw out. The GM of the dealer came out and said he had lots of money from GM to give until July 31. This was his inital offer: $44,090 (MSRP including destination) $750 rebate $3,346 discount $39,994 When we were getting ready to walk out, the salesperson told us if we were ready to buy they could look at sweetening the deal a bit - so I assume we could have knocked some more off the price above, but I'm looking to get into the low 30s before a trade in and figured there was no way to get there from where we were. Invoice including destination for this vehicle is $41,427. Just thought I'd throw it out as a data point for anyone looking right now.
SLT-2 Prices NY
by juckey on Tue Jun 23 18:15:42 PDT 2009
HI all, I am in the process of negotiating on a new GMC ACADIA 2009 SLT-2 just about fully loaded with, Nav, moon roof, DVD, power lift, camera, proxcimity sensors, 120Vac outlet, No trailer hitch and cooling unit for the transmission, No hit the road package, standard wheels, black leather, black ext. The price I am at now is $43,079. @ 0% financing in NY. The dealers are not budging lower than their initial $3K reduction in sticker price that seems to be common everywhere. I will let you know how I make out in the end and if there are any hidden fees. It is my feeling that the dealers will not receive any more 2009 stock and they are trying to unload what remains on the lots. It is my bet that the 0% financing will comeback before year end to help keep the cars moving. In the next few months they will have the 2010's. Before I got interested in the Acadia I was looking at the Acura MDX. The interior and 3rd row is not that functional compared to the Acadia. The Adadia is a rolling entertainment vessel. The captain chairs are reel cool because it makes the 3rd. row passengers feel less restricted. The second row seats are indivually adjustable front to rear. This is good for making room for the 3rd. row passengers if they aren't little kids. The ride is nice! I liked it better then the MDX. The only weird thing was the turn signal was silent with no click click sound. Something I will have to get use to.

MSRP- $37,140.00 Discount- ($4,878.35) Sales Price $32,294.65 Taxes- $967.85 New Tag $75.00 NC Inspection $13.60 Admin Fee $398.00 Total Sales Price $33,750.00 Rebate ($4,250.00) Final Price $29,500.00 The car was manufactured in September 2008 and therefore had a lower MSRP then it would have now since GMC raised prices in November. I think the comparative MSRP if you priced the car with these features would be somewhat over $38,000.

I'm also in the Chicago area. I bought from Woody GMC in Elgin. They brought the Acadia to my house and let me drive it for a day before I bought. I liked them a lot.

I couldn't agree more with these posts. I am also a very motivated cash buyer who was looking to buy an Acadia this past week, and the dealers I've worked with in Chicago are unfortunately clueless and closed-minded. Not only are the rebates not helping first time GMC buyers, but the internet sales consultants and sales reps in the dealerships are not proactive or helpful. They don't follow-up on open questions, phone calls, emails, and generally don't offer assistance that could help me purchase my Acadia. I'd think is would be a time where they really step up their game and make it easy for us. I loved the car, but I'm moved on to plan B - a Pilor or Hylander. I can say that I did find quite friendly sales folks out of a downstate GMC dealer, but they couldn't find anything for me. Good luck everyone.

The dealership is Hendrick GMC in Durham NC. I picked up the SLT 1 today for the $29,500 out the door. Frankly I am not sure how they were able to do it since none of the other dealers were able to come within $3,000 of that. If you are willing to come to NC you probably can come probably get the SLT 2 for the $31,750.
