Re: GMC Acadia: Prices Paid & Buying Experience [kyfdx]

We just bought last week in Memphis, TN: 2008 Acadia FWD SLT-1 White Diamond Tricoat Ebony leather (captain chairs) Dual skyscape sunroof Power liftgate Convenience pkg. (ultrasonic parking, remote start) Cargo pkg. Trailer pkg. Total: $35,909.03 with the Supplier's Discount and $1,500 in rebates ($500 rebate and $1k Conquest). I'm not sure that I got the best deal but I researched it alot and this is the lowest I could get. They are not moving alot on the prices, at least down here in the South! Salesman insisted it was below invoice but I don't buy it--he even went as far to say that Supplier's Discount was below invoice...which is a lie). They have to make $$$ too, as long as they don't screw you in the process. I feel like it was pretty fair deal.

re: Saturn pricing policy... My daughter was buying a used Saturn years ago and they claimed to not even negotiate pricing on their used vehicles. IIRC, late in the 2007 model year there was a $1000 or so rebate. My wife is covered under the GM Supplier discount program. I can get the GSM pricing for Buick and GM from their web page...for Saturn it says contact dealer for pricing details...so, I guess you get some discount but it is not published. I don't think the Outlook has any price advantage over the Acadia with the same equipment...the base Outlook has a little less equipment standard than the Acadia so when you add that to the base Outlook, the pricing is about the same. Acadia might even be less if you can get a discount off MSRP and Saturn does not discount.
Re: Ad fees on '08 Acadia [loach]

I understand what you are getting at. Hum, say on the '07 Acadia SLT 1, spread between MSRP and invoice is $2,160. Room for Ad fees in that. Spread between TMV and invoice is only $552, about what the Ad fees seem to be running average. So, is net profit before holdback, volume incentives, etc. pretty much $0 after deducting the Ad fees (or adding them to base invoice). I'm glad I have not put out the million to buy a dealership and make minimal profit on a pretty poplar vehicle. Now getting to the regional ad fees, with network advertising, satellite radio, internet, etc. I don't see any more difference in having national Ad fees that having national destination fees. Maybe it will eventually come to that, but I'm wondering if checking the smaller town, lower overhead dealers might be a good idea. I know they don't have the same volume, but if their overhead is much lower and they get hit with minimal Ad fees, then they might be able to have a lower net sales price than the high volume, high overhead, high Ad fee dealers in the 'big city'. Hey, I've got it now...this is some of the 'new' math they started teaching after I got out of school...dang, my 40th high school reunion is just a couple of years from now.

Ok, to be more clear....I use Edmunds or other favorite site to calculate the basic invoice for a vehicle with certain options, then add in the destination and make an offer of $xxxxx which I see to be say invoice +$350, not "I will give you invoice +$xxx". Then they come back and indicate that with the AD fee that is below invoice...so, maybe it is and maybe it is not :-). I can ignore or swallow a $200 Ad fee but $800-$900 is getting to be real money. I'm thinking that the manufacturer should include those costs in the basic cost of the vehicle instead of adding it on as another 'item'. I don't mean to start another war out here, but $800 Ad fees make me about as happy as $495 DOC fees.

Okay...AD fees are getting pretty high. I'm starting to think they should be handled like a destination fee, separate line item directly on the sticker and everyone pays the same. Only other way around this would be to work out an OTD price including everything. Don't give me a $xxx over invoice then pop out the Ad fee as an addition to the invoice.
Re: Observation of "price class" for Buick vs. GMS/Saturn for warranty [gbshuler]
by wlbrown9 on Thu Jul 05 09:19:22 PDT 2007
"I would assume that a class E/F warranty is more expensive than a class C/D. A "tax" on enclave owners if you will. Makes sense.. there are a few more parts to cover with an Enclave than an Acadia/Outlook. On the other hand.. The factory waranty for the Enclave is longer so the extended warranty should be cheaper (less coverage needed). " I went to the site and checked...it looks as if Class C is a little more than Class E, so the longer warranty on the Enclave does save you a little on the extended GMPP warranty. Class $0 ded/60mo/90K $0 ded/72mo/100K E $1470/$995 $1970/$1495 C $1580/$1105 $2080/$1650 Class E is the Enclave, Class C is the Acadis/Outlook. The prices are LIST/Selling price. I also checked the D vs F and D pricing is more than F as well. So Enclave buyers would get a little discount. Difference looks to be $100 to maybe $200 depending on what coverage you purchase.
