If you don't mind a few day trips (one trip to pay for the car and sign the papers, and another trip up after you do all your local DMV paperwork to pick up the vehicle) to save a few thousand bucks, we went from NJ to my old stomping grounds in Boston. There's a huge dealership just south of Boston: Quirk Chevy in Braintree, MA. They have a web site with their current ads. Today's ad shows a Z71 with a sticker of 45,010, dealer discount of 7011, rebate of 5000, to get you down to 32,999. This isn't one of those places where you have to be there when the doors open to get vehicle in the ad; when we got our Tahoe last month, they showed 170+ Tahoes just in their own personal inventory. Their ads are not come-ons, but legit sale prices; we've been buying from them based on this for years. I looked all over my area of NJ, and no one came within thousands of the price we got at Quirk (sticker of 39,900, cash price of 28,700), plus they had Tahoes with minimal options, which were hard to find in NJ.

I didn't think you could get both in the same vehicle.

Ask the dealer if this is the best deal they can offer. If so, go to another dealer and negotiate there. You will eventually find the bottom if that is what you are inclined to do. I personally was comfortable with the dealer I usually do business with and accepted his deal of $272.00 over invoice and didn't spend any additional time trying to get the most excellent deal possible.

If it's the vehicle you want from a dealer you want to do business with, why wouldn't you take it?

I've purchased many vehicles in my day (imports included) and the various dealer's invoice price has always matched Edmunds almost to the penny. As far as imports go, they can be purchased at invoice or above just like a domestic. The net amount you pay for a vehicle depends on buyer knowledge and market situations for the make and model.

The dealers are hurting right now due to pitiful sales. They make money even at invoice due to Holdback. I paid $275.00 over invoice in mid February for my Envoy XL SLT. I love it!
