Need help negotiating an Edge lease...
by somakiss on Tue Dec 04 03:03:21 PST 2007
Hi everyone, I have a strong feeling that the lease price I was offered is too high, and came here to get advice on that. First things first, I have never leased/bought a car on my own, so this whole process has been incredibly frustrating and confusing for me. And like a prior poster, I'm a young female who went in alone. Here's the deal: I came in looking for a lease, flexible on terms, etc. I have a vehicle appraised for trade at 9k. We did a couple of different calculations - using the trade as part of a lease, and also as part of a purchase. Overall, the lease rates were as follows: Sticker on the car (I believe - we went through a few different cars, but this is ballpark) was around 36-37k for a Limited AWD with many options. I have X-plan, so it was going to go down to around 34-35k. With the trade (basically 9k down), 39 mo lease with 15k miles/yr, my payments were estimated at $409/mo. With that much down, this sounds high to me (especially after what some of you have paid with 0 down). Granted, the car is a bit more expensive, but it seems like 9k down should make a bigger dent than that - when I calculated what I will have paid overall for a 39 month lease including my trade, it comes out to something like $640/month, which sounds really high, considering the X-plan and everything. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm in Northern Virginia/ DC area by the way... Is it best to just sell my current car (not include in the lease) and then use what I get out of that to pay off my lease? My parents are not very much help because they've never had a trade in (always just from lease to lease), but a woman at one of the other dealerships I visited said I was throwing away 9k...any thoughts? Thank you all so much - this forum is great and very helpful for us inexperienced car buyers...

Granted, I'm very new to this forum, but I'm picking up quite a bit of hostility from a poster or two.....the last two deals listed ( mine included) have been called out and one poster actually came out and said that basically we had to be lying because these deals couldn't be right...then a pissin match over invoice price from another person getting a deal.. Am I missing something.is there some sort of prize at stake that has people's blood pressure up, or are some people just argumentative..... I must tell you.I was a bit offended by people questioning my deal simply because I hadn't read over 300 posts to know what information to put out there............then another person posted that they highly doubted the veracity of the deal..................huh??? Why would I lie.........I'm very excited about my new car and my first big deal and I am admittedly a new member here and I'm met with a bit of hostility......what's up with that? Do I need to scan the freakin paperwork from the dealership? just let me know......I'm not used to having people doubt my word, in person or online......basically I'm really trying to figure where it's coming from..... sheesh :confuse: p.s....I just noticed this came up as a reply to bobw3.............this is not directed at him.other forums I use allows you to hit the reply button on the last message to carry on the thread...my bad

Everyday that I come here I get really amazed at the knowledge that is provided. The previous person that gave that long and well thought explanation was terrific, but he or she is aware of figures and facts that most of us are far..very far away from fully understanding. On the other hand your explanation was simple enough for me to understand. yes the beauty of the X-Plan pricing is that the dealer is controlled by Ford on what they can charge and I fully aware of that.So based on your expiriences x-plan is the way to go since the selling price is already established by FORD. Sometimes I wonder if it is really that much better to lease than to buy based on all the pitfalls, granted leasing is the only way to get more car for less money but then one could be paying more (because of dealers tactics) than if you could buy..just my thoughts. Thanks for all your help guys..

I have 2006 f 150 supercrew GTR. I love my truck but I cant keep it. when I got it I traded in a 2mth old dodge durango I paid cash for 33,000 they gave me 25,000 trade in I put another 5,000 down got the gap extra wrnty. my payments are 425.00 a month I cant pay that anymore so I go to trade my truck in, granted I owe 24,000 still om my truck they only wanted to give me 21,000 then they said well we will give u 24,000 what I owe so in other words, I can just give them my truck and get nothing out of it. Am I going to be able to trade it in anywhere? Exlt condition 5950mls -I think Im going to get Screwed out of everything. The Gtr pckge was 10,000 and the truck was 35,000 and I cant believe they offered me the 24,000 only I dont know what to do
Re: Expedition Rebates [e91]
by jimk6615 on Wed Feb 14 11:29:45 PST 2007
You have to look at the final price. We just purchased a 2007 Expedition XLT to replace our 2004 Expedition. The sticker or MSRP is 29175.00 on the 2007. While the MSRP on the 2004 was 34325.00 for the XLT with the basic options. The new one has a 5.4 engine, side curtain airbags and traction control on it as standard. These were not on the 2004. Granted the rebates were a little larger at the time but it is still cheaper today than in 2004. What else can you buy for less money 4 years later. For the record, we love the new one . It gets 18 MPG and has a very quiet ride. I think the manufacturers are elimating the old smoke and mirrors pricing and being more realistic. Look around and see what you can get for 30,00 grand, not much. Go for it.

Wow! Ten grand is quite a hike from a Ranger to a Toyota. I drove a Toyota Pickup for many years, and really liked the way they were put together. My budget precluded a used Toyota purchase, then I got a great buy on a 2001 Ranger with low mileage for $5995. Granted that a Ranger may not be as exciting as the Japanese import, but sometimes we have to consider true value for dollar spent. Your test drives are definitely the way to go when buying new. The Dodge dealer who sold me my Ranger had a $50,000 truck on the showroom floor, next to an $80,000 Viper. I'm surprised they even let me on the lot. rdrankin
