Buying a car from a Ford Car Dealer
Hi, guys: I've been doing some research on the Ford Edge and the Nissan Murano. I like them both from what I've seen so far. I haven't test drove either one yet, as I have time before my current lease is up. I haven't had a Ford in about 20 years. I've had a couple Nissans which turned out to be good cars. If there is anyone out there who has an opinion on both SUV's I would really appreciate it. I probably would end up buying a three year old one. Any info anyone can provide would be great!! Thanks for your help. Steve (NJ)
Went by the dealer today and was getting the following terms at J&S Ford in Jersey City, NJ: Ford Flex FWD Limited MSRP: 40,270 Cap Price: 36,240 All taxes, title, etc up front - can't remember the exact # but approx: $2200 Trade-in: ~4,000 pending them seeing it in person but with the promise to adjust so the lease comes out at $400 a month. Monthly Payment: $400 Good deal? I really want a midsize SUV with Navigation but lease deals aren't great on the normal manufacturers right now (Ford Flex, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, VW Tiguan) with Navi & I keep feeling like I'm getting up to near Acura MDX or Lexus lease prices... Any additional ideas or other similar vehicle suggestions?
I ordered my '08 4WD FEH on June 30th and I am still waiting for my New Jersey delivery. I received a VIN # on Nov. 16th, was told it would go into production on Dec. 3rd & to expect delivery the week of Dec. 10th or Dec. 17. My salesman is a fleet sales mgr. (connected through a friend who buys 6+ commercial vans per year) & although I rec'd. an X-Plan price I never thought that I would have to wait this long. After pressure from myself & my friend, my salesman told me that he had the dealership owner intervene with a Ford rep. to specify what few FEH's of the next order batch they wanted first. This is the only reason that I expect delivery before year end. By the way, this dealership is high volume supplying all of the NYC taxi as well as NJ Public Service Elec/Gas fleets so it shouldn't be hard to bump up a personal vehicle in place of a corporate one. My advice is to complain & pressure your dealer as much as possible. This is definitely a case of the squeaky wheel getting the oil.
This forum was great. I made a worksheet that even had the sales manager "stumped." price fell. Also asked for factory to dealer cash number. They admitted Ford has passed out $1,000 "certificates" to dealers to use as they see fit. Because I asked, I got one in my deal which, as you see, put the car $700 UNDER actual invoice. Dealer agreed to $300 over invoice. I know the car biz well. Blue Oval-No Gimmick large NJ dealership. Here was the deal I made. 36 month/15,000 mile lease/residual 50% MSRP - $34,369 Sale Price - $32,600 (or so, I chucked my worksheet, but it was 300 over the true invoice). Less $1,000 dealer certificate. Adj Cap Cost $31,122. Residual $17,180. My only cash down was in lots of rebates, $1,000 swap, $750 Edge lease, $500 lease loyality, and $500 college grad (wife) or $2,750. All I paid upfront was tags, first payment, and $135 dealer "doc" fee totaling about $900. Payment including 7% New Jersey sales tax is $412 month X 36 months. With $2,750 rebates, $1,000 manufacturer to dealer cash, and discount, I got over $5,0000 off MSRP. Best yet, I turned in my 24 month RCL on another car and Ford picked up last 3 payments under early bird program.
BTW, I picked up the '08 Tribute Grand Touring for $1376 below sticker, plus the $3,000 in rebates, for a total of $4376 below sticker. PLUS they gave me what I owed on the '05 Tribute trade in with no haggling which was a pleasant surprise to me. All this was the only reason I didn't hold out for Mercury Mariner which I wanted a little more than the Tribute. Wayne Mazda in New Jersey is a very nice dealer to do business with. I've now bought my last two Tributes there and would do it again.
