Re: 2008 Ford Focus SES Tire Wear [kssnflwr]

If the tires have worn evenly, there is no defect. If they have worn unevenly and it was not do to aggressive driving, then I'd assume you need an alignment or some other repair. It was not a Focus, but my kid wore out 2 tires in 6000 miles. They had a 60K mi warranty, so the tire manufacturer gave him two new tires and he paid only for mounting and balancing

Take the vehicle to another ford dealer under warranty. Drive it with them and tell them you think the tranny won't shift into 4th gear. They will run the diagnostics on it etc and get it fixed. Hating the dealership etc isn't really fruitful. So many people have complaints with Toyota,Ford,Honda dealerships etc it all cancels out. The dealers are independent franchises and not directly related to the manufacturer. Even Saturn and Scion dealerships get the same complaints. Don't know what being dark when you drove means, but if so you were fortunate there were no cosmetic problems, as they aren't covered by warranty. You can get the tranny fixed at one of the dealers, get a loaner car, etc. Looks like you got a decent price, its got 5yr/60000 mi power train. Enjoy the car Good luck --jjf I purchased a 2008 Focus SE last week. It is a program car, with about 11,000 miles on it. It was late in the evening, nearly dark, when I test drove the vehicle. The dealer had 4 to choose from. I chose the one with the lowest mileage. It is an automatic transmission. When I drove it, about 6 miles on freeway and off, it seemed to do just fine. After much discussion, we came to an agreed upon price of $10,900. All paper work completed, and late in the day by then, it was dark outside. The dealer put a dealer tag on it and told me to come back the next day to get the car detailed and have the window paper license tag put on it. So, I go back and they give me a car identical to the one I purchased to use as a loaner to get about town that day. After driving the loaner car that day, it occured to me it handled differently in the way the automatic transmission shifted. It shifted smoothly and in a timely manner. The one I purchased did not, the engine was nearly screaming at 60 mph on the freeway. I do not drive over the speed limit if I can help it. I called the dealership and discussed this with them. They tell me that someone will drive the car I purchased with me inside, and then the loaner vehicle (it had 15,000 miles on it). When I get back, no one has time, but I was told the car I purchased was working just fine. I was told that every car senses the driver driving habits, and it shifts like it should according to the driver????? WHAT?? Did I suddenly become an idiot? I don't drive like an idiot. So I get in it to drive back home, about 30 miles, and the transmission still does not shift correctly. The engine is still screaming at 60 mph. Here I sit, hating the car, the dealership, and the entire experience. Being a female of 55 years, it appears I made a bad mistake. Thanks FORD. As soon as I can get rid of this car, I will NEVER walk into a Ford dealer lot again. Nor will I ever purchase another Ford. And has anyone ever heard of something this ridiculous in their life? Has anyone had an experience with the automatic transmission in the 2008 Focus acting up?

Given that speaking in terms of "invoice" price gives a sense of relativity to the discussion rather than dollars "off sticker", it's a pretty fair assumption that "dealer invoice" price is a reasonable theoretical maximum before any rebates and incentives. The normal retail consumer rebates and incentives vary WIDELY from state to state. For example, NJ receives some of the lowest, while MI receives some of the highest, and they can vary as much as $2,000-$3,000. Furthermore, there are also "trim level" incentives that provide another $500 to the SEL given the unexpected oversupply resulting from the unexpected favorable response to those with the Limited trim. In addition to the retail rebates are those that may or may not apply to individual customers. For example, Ford is offering "conquest" rebates in some area to those who are trading-in (and in some areas merely own) a particular competitor's vehicle, and other discounts like those who happen to be recent college graduates, police association or XYZ Club members also exist on an individual basis. Ford also offers a $750 "brochure" discount on certain models to customers who have requested printed marketing materials sent from the Ford (or LM) website. Ford also offers thier "X-Plan" discount, which is offered to employees of certain business "affiliates", qualified Ford shareholders, and certain other individuals. This is effectively a "flat rate" price at or near dealer invoice. And, from time to time, Ford also adds an additional incentive to X-Plan buyers atop all others. Beyond that, Ford occasionally (but not usually) offers "marketing support" to dealers in the form of cash incentives that the dealer may, but is not obligated to, share with customers. Any other money "left in the vehicle" for the dealer to share (before taking a "loss") would be the 3% (of sticker) holdback each dealer receives from Ford post-sale. That doesn't mean that's the limit of a dealer's willingness to negotiate, (although it usually ends WELL before a "net zero" sale). However, some dealers may find themselves with either excess or slow-moving inventory or are in need of cash and are willing to take the proverbial "bird in the hand". In some cases, dealers have purchased inventory at a song from nearby dealers who have liquidated and are willing to simply clear what they can for the quick turn of a cheap buck. As recommended before, you should ask your sales associate to show you the "Smart Vincent" report that contains ALL of the current incentives you happen to be qualified to receive, including any others that may exist for the particular model and trim you're interested in buying. That will give you a better "apples to apples" idea of any discounts you can obtain regardless of where you ultimately buy your Flex (or any Ford vehicle), and you can then be better prepared to negotiate on the basis of what a particular dealer might be willing to offer in addition.

Good Lord. It's certainly a good time to purchase a vehicle for Michigan residents. The regional incentives have always been more generous in MI, but these are unprecedented. Did you bring the brochure for the discount in yourself? Congratulations.

2010 Fusion SEL lease quote
by gmoney15 on Sat Jul 18 11:53:12 PDT 2009
Hey car man.. looking at leasing a 2010 Fusion SEL here in the Detroit, MI area. I am getting the Z plan price due to my father being a Ford retiree. The family has been using the same Ford dealership for years so have just got a quote from them. I chose a car on the lot with a sticker price of $28,105 and my Z plan price is $25,282.62. With no money down and a 36 month 12,000 miles lease I was qouted $396 including tax. Does seem about right for this area and these times? I last leased 3 years ago as well as my mom and seems like leasing has gone up. My moms 06 Fusion SEL was $262. The sales rep says things have just changed and rates are up since then. It just seems like they should be begging me to buy a car these days the way things are here. Is the $396 rate seem reasonable in your opinion? Thanks, greg
