News for Ford: ABS is a must-have
by shiatt on Mon Dec 01 16:54:50 PST 2008
We love our 2003 Focus ZX5, which has been ultra-reliable and still drives well; our only serious complaint is the front seats, which we can never adjust enough to be really comfortable--unlike our 1998 Contour, which had great seats. So when it came time this fall to replace the Contour we looked at the 2008 & 2009 Focus first. However, it was virtually impossible to find a Focus in the SF Bay Area with antilock brakes--a requirement for us and an option our 2003 had. I looked at dealer stock on the Net, and found only a couple of Foci with ABS, and they were tricked out with all manner of other options (air foil, anyone?--looks silly on a Focus). Why does Ford think ABS is an option only a very few will want? This isn't 1990... and Ford lost the sale because of its miscalculation.
FEH at/below invoice in SF area
by scottch on Fri Dec 21 23:42:14 PST 2007
I used the forddirect.com website to search dealerships and inventory in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is a lot of inventory locally. I then requested quotes from dealers on specific VINs. Quite a few dealerships responded by email or phone. One suggested "only a few hundred below MSRP". Several offered cars at or below invoice (i.e., about 6% below MSRP). Two more bits of advice: when searching inventories, you will see that there are differences in base MSRP of more than $1000 (i.e., $27015; $28015, $28080 before options) for the same '08 4WD. I deduce there have been at least two price hikes in the last few months. There are still a few cheaper/"older" (September 07 build date) cars on the lot and I put dibs on one, saving $1k. Second tip: rumor suggests Ford may offer additional incentives during the week after XMas. I don't know if dealerships are willing to ship, but I was quoted less than $1000 to transport a car from CA to IL last month.
Killer Deals on '05 Rangers!
by landdriver on Fri Oct 21 17:46:54 PDT 2005
(It's me again.) Did some shopping and got a few price quotes, both over the internet and in person at dealerships in SF Bay Area -- one dealer is quoting $9988 (after $3000 (CA area) rebate and before tax and license) for a new '05 base Ranger. This is a killer price!!! The other quotes are not quite this low but still are excellent deals. If anyone's considering a new Ranger, now is the time to act if you're open to the limited options on the few remaining '05s on dealer lots. (As for me am in the market for a longbed and apparently no '05 longbeds (in a 4cyl manual) remaining anywhere in CA -- will wait for the '06 rebates to increase later in the model year. (Anyone been tracking Ranger rebate trends?))

Hey there, Live in Northern CA - San Francisco bay area - san Jose. Local dealer has convertible V-6's on the lot with "LOOK - NO DEALER MARK UP" stickers on the window. As for V-6 hardtops - basic car with stick - invoice or one guy quoted 300 under. As for GT's - am ordering my convertible today - MSRP
Explorer Limited V. Mountaineer
by wilkich on Tue Jul 20 10:43:54 PDT 2004
Without going item by item, it seems to me that the Explorer Limited and the Mountaineer Luxary are comparably priced. But the Mercury has a nicer interior. Is there any reason to buy the Limited over the Mountaineer?
