Buyers Beware
Written by susie13 on 09/02/2012
We stopped into this dealership's part department and were not planning on buying a car, but while there we decided to look at the new cars. We were approached by at least 5 salesman. We did see a particular highly optioned vehicle that we liked, so we did take it for a test drive. In trying to get a simple price, the dealer just played games about the payment. The dealer never would give a price until we signed a loan application first. We very specifically told the dealer not to pull our credit until we had agreed on the price. They did not honor our request. It nearly took an act of congress to even get them to give us an actual sales price. The dealer would not give us fair trade, and refused to disclose the obviously high interest rate that they had negotiated on our behalf - without our permission - specifically against our wishes. We should have known we were in trouble when the salesman claimed that dealerships only make $800 on a car sale - come on - they all charge a $500 or higher "dealer fee" - so that means that they only make $300 on a car and yet can still afford to pay their electric bill. We went to another dealer and found a nearly identical vehicle - the original sticker prices were within$1000, but the second dealer negotiated a price and financing terms that ended up actually saving us about $20,000.00 overall - yes $20,000.00. It really pays to shop around. I suggest that you shop other dealers first - almost any of them will treat you with more respect. The final straw was when the Pete from Ferman told us that maybe we couldn't afford the vehicle we were looking at and then did the old "bait and switch". He then came back with no rebates (Dodge was offering 3500 on the vehicle) and mysteriously the amount being offered on our trade was decreased by $700. In 5 minutes our same exact vehicle actually decreased in value by this amount. It was when the salesman flat out told us that because the lower level vehicle he was switching us to was of lower profit margin that they had to lower our trade. It was so obvious that they did not care one bit about the customer - only their own bottom line. Now I understand business - but these people were just trying to take advantage of the customer - definitely not interested in serving the customer.
