Good Deal or Not?
by equuspwr on Sun Jan 06 07:47:28 PST 2008
Car Man or anyone, I wonder if you can help me? First I would like to know how you figure out the risidual value and how you use it, and how do you figure out the "money factor" and how it is used. It may be a little too late to ask these questions because I already put a down payment on a car, but I have 2 days to back out. Can you tell me if I made a good deal? I leased a 2008 Dodge SXT 2.0L engine. Sticker price is $18,850.00 total. The salesman said he was charging me $16,252.00 for the car. I put $1,500.00 down, and $219 a month for 36 months and 12,000 Miles a year. The salesman said that I didn't need Gap insurance because it is built into the lease, (Chrysler takes care of it), and it is an open end lease, but no matter what happens I will not owe any money when I turn the car in. I live in Long Island NY 11590. Does any of this make sense, and did I get a good deal? PS. My tax rate is 8.625%.

If only the SRT8 came with AWD. Until then I'll stick with my R/T AWD.

I cannot think of a gas engine and transmission combination that's more durable and long lasting than a 4.7 with a 545RFE automatic transmission. There are several around here that have reached 180K miles without any serious or expensive repairs and still going strong. The 4.7 has a near impeccable reputation. Like most Mopar V8s they do not have a habit of excessive oil consumption. The 4.7 is a very tightly assembled engine. Likewise the 545RFE (or 45RFE) has been an exceptionally good transmission in truck service and is the same one used behind the 5.7 Hemi. Typical component issues for that vintage Dakota that might be affected by high mileage were ball joints, heater core & air conditioner condensers, Central Timer Modules, intermediate steering shafts (4x4 only). There were numerous complaints of premature brake rotor wear in those years. Of course, if it is high mileage the chances are many of these areas have already had a component replacement. If you can get the repair history of the vehicle it could give you a better idea. I know Dakotas pretty well and if the price was inline and there was no history of body damage, I wouldn't have a moments hestitation about buying one. Good luck & best regards, Dusty

There are four engines available in the RAM. A 3.7 V-6, a 4.7 V-8, the 5.7 V-8 Hemi, and the Cummins Diesel. Best regards, Dusty
2006 R/T Charger Lease Question
by team118 on Mon Dec 04 18:41:32 PST 2006
Car_man; Great site! I would like to lease a 2006 R/T Charger, MSRP - $34,360. "My price" is $32,461 minus $2,000 in rebates ($30,461 for the car). I am being told a 39 month lease with 15k miles will be about $564 with nothing down. That price includes all NY taxes and dealer charges. What is the residual for this car? and what does "Rate lease money factor" mean? Is there anything I am missing? This is a business car and I want to make sure I am getting the best deal for the company and our shareholders. Thanks!
