kbb.com nada.com used car appraiser. If a 41500 msrp dodge ram (probably 43000 msrp for 08) with nav and such`wholesales used in 12 months (07) for $20000, buying it (an 08) for any less than 15000-16000+ off msrp is financially painful. Your target for a leftover low mi new 07 (41000 msrp) is about $22000 or so. Somewhere around 24000-26000 on an 08. (preferably closer to the lower) Forget about edmunds TMV on new vehicles. It is many times optimistic (for the dealer) and grossly optimistic for trucks. (I wonder what it is on a new 08 42000 ram?-- worth 20000 wholesale in a 12 months) Check out my message 4681 on the hyundai sonata forum for useful info on how to buy a car. Forget about bringing in paperwork for negotiating. Get 10-20 + bids via email from dodge dealers last week of the month for 08s. Work the top 2-3 against one another, eventually via cell phone. If your leftover 07 dealer won't chop at least 2000-3000 off your best deal on a similar 08 forget about it. Good luck --jjf

Bergen County, NJ. Spoiled by a $275/mo. lease on 05 Durango now ending. Approx. $3500 in excess mi. to pay. CFS only offering $10k to buy at 5.9%/60mo @ $200/mo. Considering new lease on 09 Journey w/ 3rd row. Anyone know current money factor/residual on 09 Journey? 24 mo or 36 mo. Anyone get any good lease deals on this model lately? All comments are welcome and thanks for your help!

If you look at my other posts here the Dodge Ram has a very inflated msrp. $12000 off msrp was the standard mediocre deal for the last 4-5 years or so. If you look up the used 08 value of a truck like your $43000 number you may find it is about $22000.(kbb.com) A $35000 deal may have you eating almost $13000 to drive an average truck the 1st 12 months. (the most expensive). This is totally uncool for an average truck, especially in a recession. Try to get 20 bids (dodge website (150 mi radius) last week of the month on a purchase (with your financing, shop around) And a lease. (no money down, 36months or so 15000 miles/yr). You should get about 2-4 dealers to bid several rounds for a 3 or so days. The lease is the easiest, lowest payment under the mentioned terms wins. Good luck --jjf
Re: 2007 Demo? [shabr]

A 31k msrp dodge durango barely wholesales for 17000 in a year i would guess, and that would be optimistic. A 42k durango probably in the 22-25k range. I presume that is what you mean. Look these up on kbb.com and nada.com. (look up 07 vehicle compared to new 08). Check out my message 4681 in the Hyundai Sonata Forum and The chevy silverado and Dodge Ram 1500 prices paid forum. The 42000 Dodge Ram 1500 barely wholesales for 22000 in 12 months. It has sold all day long brand new for 12000 off msrp on average the last 4 years or so. Should be much more now the last 12 months. I would find it hard to believe the Durango fares much better. These vehicles have sold new with heavy advertised and hidden incentives for years, and should be much heavier now. (Due to their high unrealstic factory determined msrp) Get 10-20 bids via email for best price on vehicle with your specifications last week of the month from the Dodge website (dealer locator) within a 100-200 mi radius of your home. Work the top 2-4 bidders against one another. In general Demo's aren't worth messing with, unless they will sell it for considerably less than the lowest deal you can get on an 08. You should be able to get a new 08 for $3000-5000 more than a used 07, and get the options and colors you want. Good luck --jjf We've been looking into a new or barely used Durango limited (prefer used, the depreciation on these vehicles is a killer!). We have an offer for a brand new from one dealer with dealer incentives and holdback removed, and now another offer for virtually the same vehicle (with about $300 more in options), but it is a demo. They are asking MSRP less the $6k dealer incentive and less all but $200 of holdback totaling over 34K. No adjustment for the almost 3k miles on the car. Anyone have experience with purchasing a demo? How to negotiate for this? I look at Edmunds pricing on this vehicle as a used vehicle and MSRP is 31k! Low wholesale is 26K... I just can't fathom purchasing a USED vehicle for NEW price - anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Our plate registrations are in the $100-300 range as well, depending on MSRP of the vehicle new as well.. Even @ 3 months into your 3rd year, can you transfer your plate for the remaining 9 months to another vehicle for a smaller fee in CA? In MI, we have a $19 registration/plate transfer fee that allows you to keep whatever plate you have until your next birthday, assuming it has already been paid for on the prior vehicle.
