Shady sales tactics

by KA on 06/14/2019

Classic Sleazy car salesmen. Don’t buy a car from this dealer or their branch in Berlin. Classic bait and switch - I called about availability of a specific car I wanted to test drive. Because there was only a stock photo I asked the guy who answered the phone some questions about the car. He put me on hold and when he return he said “yes, I just checked the car, it has...(what I asked about)” I called back shortly after to make the test drive appointment for the same day. I called again when I was running late. They confirmed the car I was coming to drive and said “no problem. We’ll have it waiting for you outside”. When I got there the general sales manager greets me and took me inside. Introduced me to the guy who would take me for a ride. We get to a table to sign me in and suddenly the manager realizes “oh! That car JUST sold. They’re signing the paperwork now.” I could read him and immediately knew what was up. Blah blah blah... long story short. LIES. I asked to see the car. Suddenly he needs clarity on the car I made an appointment to see - after speaking with THREE people about that car. I tell him AGAIN. And he remembers that car has a blown transmission. Then, he wants to show me other cars. NO. I wouldn’t buy a car from this dealer if it was $1. The car with the blown transmission is still on their website - FIVE days later. (as of this writing - now 2 weeks and the car is still listed). I would not trust a car from them. New or used. How they do one thing, they do all things.

One star is even to much

by Broken_Sti on 12/01/2017

My wife had seen a 2013 Sti limited on the lot at Schaller Subaru at the end of June 2016, had all the options she wanted and the color she was looking for. We decided to go take a look at it. We called it was still available so we drove up to see it on a day we were free. Take it for a test drive and go over some paperwork, the car fax showed that it had a transmission put in a few thousand miles before it was traded in which should have raised a flag on a car with only 30k miles on it. My wife fell in love with it and it was what she wanted. We trade he car in and as always on a trade they shaft you but she wanted this so we agreed on a price for the trade in. We are told they can’t budge on the price of this Sti because if we didn’t buy it or put a deposit down on it they “had 4 other people who wanted it” and needed to make a deal quickly. I drive it home and hear this god awful noise coming from the motor the same night we took it home, I called their service department and told them I needed to get it back in and needed a loaner car since this is now my wife’s car and the car we traded in had no issues. Not a problem sir we will look at it we have a opening in two weeks......but I just took delivery of the car less than 24 hours ago and the motor sounds horrible. Sorry that’s the soonest we can get it in. Fine I’ll wait for that date, get there wait for 2 hours in the waiting room and explained to the advisor that if the car has to stay I needed a car to drive. She comes back to tell me that the bottom end of the motor had failed.....but it was in the shop for a once over to be sold on the lot how could it have failed and not be noticed? She is not sure but they have to keep the car and offer to give me a ride home, problem is I live a hour away and now have no car to drive for how ever long this is going to take to get done I need a loner car. We don’t have any set aside for you, but when I made the appointment the said there would be one there for me since we had bought the car. After arguing with them they get me a tiny little enterprise car that could barley fit 4 people in it which won’t work. I still have to argue and finally say I’ll take the car and bring it to my local dealer because now I know something is up, sure enough a loner car happens to show up. The car was here for 4-5 weeks having a short block installed under the “Subaru” warranty because it is a common issue. What the failed to disclose to me was why it failed and couldn’t tell me the truth. The previous owner had flashed the ECU, over boosted it and blew 2 cylinders which both had low compression, and it was noted with Subaru of America so it voided the previous owners warranty and he traded it in which the pervious owner and Schaller both knew about but because I was the new owner the factory warranty was still in tact for me because I just purchase it. Fast forward to a year and 8000 miles later I hear it knocking again take it to my local dealer where it is serviced all of the time and they tell me it is valve train noise and that the valves all should have been adjusted when the short block was done, I call the service manager and asked if it was done and he claimed yes it was but couldn’t find the paper work he then tells me well if it is serviced there they should have heard the noise and told us about it, no it actually just gotten louder but you still couldn’t prove that it was done. He offered to let us drop the car off so they can look at it. Honestly I had such a horrible experience after the first time you think I trust you with leaving this there? I don’t think so. I call my dealer back and tell him the story he said it is going to be xxx-xxxx amount of dollars to do so we schedule the appointment and drop it off to a dealer we trust who can actually do the work and not flat out lie to my face. I understand it was a used car they just wanted to flip and make money but when you have to lie to a persons face from the sales dept all the way to service it is not good business and I am not sure why companies do this still to this day. And please Schaller do not contact me about this issue because it is the truth and I do not want any calls emails or texts from anyone at your dealership regarding this review. I don’t mind paying a premium for a car I want but don’t keep lying to customers.

Shady Loan Practices

by rakman58 on 12/17/2016

Agreed to purchase a used vehicle. during the process we told them that we had been approved for an auto loan from our credit union and all we needed was a PO from Schaller and the bank would cut a check.. The sales manager stated that was good because they work directly with our credit union. They gave us some paper work stating that the credit union needed us to fill it out so the funds could be transferred. As things progressed we discovered that the dealership had applied for a loan to our credit union on our behalf. Once we found this out we called them on this shady practice. Once we informed them that we wanted to deal directly with our credit union they became very unresponsive for getting the information to the credit union. We discovers that they get a commission from the credit union on every loan they process. If you purchase a car from here be VERY careful of what they tell you and don't trust anything they say.

Do not use this dealership

by carowner20 on 06/06/2016

I bought a user Subaru from Schaller. They did a great job of hiding every possible defect. The car now smells like an ashtray and there are hundred of scratched. They put the car in the shade which did wonders for hiding everything. A little fabreeze, same thing. Run away from this place.

Rose is the Worst

by ejb8 on 03/17/2015

I recently visited Schaller Subaru for a few specific cars to view and consider. We were quickly handed off to Rose who made for the most uncomfortable test drives. It was impressive how she was made us feel equally pressured and unwelcome. As a salesperson myself i couldn't help but cringe at the unsubstantiated claims, condescending comments, and gall to insinuate we were wasting her time! In the end she got what she predicted, I found the same car at Quality Subaru and gave the sale to the no pressure salesman. Even ended up with a finer car :P

Highly Recommended-NO PRESSURE SALES!

by subdriver4 on 02/12/2013

For over the last 20 years, my family has purchased Subaru's from various Subaru dealers in CT and MA. The unfortunate circumstance with these other dealers is that they were too pushy into trying to get you to buy a car immediately and once you signed the car loan, their attitude changed completely for the worse with many sales reps not following up or completing promises made to me. The sales reps no longer cared once teh car purchase was finalized. My Schaller Subaru was a whole new and positive experience. After dealing directly with Matt and Vince for a recent purchase this month, I will definitely return to them for all future vehicle purchases. From day one, there was no pressure, no upsell and more importantly no games were played. Matt's attitude and service was focused solely on customer service and not on sales. He was more concerned in offering me a vehicle that I wanted that fit my needs. He never once acted in the way the infamous typical car salesperson does. When it came time to discuss pricing on the Subaru Legacy, Matt gave me a purchase price that was a win-win situation for both parties. I only wish that Schaller Subaru was around in 2011 when I purchased my previous Subaru. Ask for MATT if you are planning to purchase a Subaru in the future. I highly recommend Matt and already have to my friends and family.

Superior Sales Experience!

by medicmom on 12/14/2011

This is the second vehicle I purchased from Schaller Subaru and was by far much better experience than I could have anticipated. From the very first interaction, both Vince and Matt went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction with my new car. I believe the fact that they actually listened to me and made a concentrated effort to match my needs with the right vehicle greatly contributed to the fact that I LOVE my new Subaru Outback! My salesperson was Matt and his attention to detail that most others would have overlooked was much appreciated. It may seem insignificant to others, but the fact that hey cared enough to help me to keep the license plate that I have on my vehicle currently ( which would have been replaced without their intervention!) meant a great deal to me. Every single person at Schaller's has treated both my husband and I with the utmost patience and courtesy. Both Vince and Matt have followed up with me since the sale more than once and know how pleased we are with the entire experience. We were pleased with the financial aspect of our transaction and the way our closing was handled. It is unusual to give "glowing" reviews to an experience such as buying a car, but in this case it is warranted! Thanks to Vince and to Matt, we are convinced that at Schaller's there is no such thing as "we can't" - the "We will - and do!" attitude is reflected throughout I am convinced that my next vehicle purchases will be through Schaller's for years to come. If you are looking for a dealership where they give you the time and attention you should received when making a major purchase, look no further! We ar 100% satisfied - and you will be, too!

Friendly and Professional Service

by kckeene77 on 11/02/2011

Just recently purchased my second Subaru and had a great experience at Schaller. Their staff welcomed me and did not make me feel under pressure to purchase a car. Every detail about the car was discussed and shown to me and any questions that I had were answered in a quick manner. I would definitely recommend Schaller to my friends and family and look forward to buying my next new Subaru from Schaller!
