Good Deal
by slotexn on Fri May 30 09:50:24 PDT 2008
I just leased a 2008 T&C touring with some features of the Limited added at no additional cost. Dealer said sometimes manufacturers put items in on random vehicles. The 03 T&C I traded in was the same way - had items not usually found on the model. I traded in my 03 (great van with no problems) that I still owed $9500 on and paid no money down and my payments are only $10 a month more than my other van's. I wanted to lease because I get bored and want something new every few years. I swore I would never drive a van (our son rode in the front seat of my ZX until he was 3) but kids and sports - football, lacrosse, cheerleading and soccer, dogs, and a mom who needs a wheelchair...made this van was the way to go. My teenage son calls it "BA" and that is a COOL thing these days. Even he doesn't mind driving!!!!
Re: Should we buy the 07 Pt [jima53]

I bought an 2006 base model with A/C, keyless, CD satellite radio and an auto trans for $11,200.00 (plus tax & lic) in November...a great deal on a very good transportation car. I don't think there are any differences between the '06 and the 2007 because the PT was just significantly refreshed in 2006. I would certainly buy this car again. It is not an exciting car to drive (like my Miata), and the MPG is not great at about 20 to 22 MPG, but the car is roomy and comfortable and has some visual character (unlike most of it's competitors). Additionally, my very positive experience with my wife's 2003 Jeep Liberty has caused me to expect good reliability from Chrysler Corp. I had always had Japanese cars before and swore by them, but these days, American cars have gotten much better. The PT Cruiser is not a class leader anymore, but is a good value and has become a kind of modern classic. They are unpretentious, practical American cars with a pleasing shape and lots of cargo/passenger flexibility. My Marine Blue 2006 Cruiser replaced a 2005 Nissan Altima which was more powerful, roomier and got better gas mileage, but it was so BORING I could hardly work up the enthusiasm to even wash the car. I didn't hate the Altima, I had no feelings for it at all...I still turn and admire the years-old shape of the Cruiser and it sparkles in the driveway as I write this. If anyone reading this is interested, I got mine at Orange Coast Chrysler/Jeep in Costa Mesa, California. They were professional and a pleasure to deal with, even when I walked out of the dealership halfway through the deal because it was getting late and I was sick.
Got an Inferno Red Pacifica...

I already detailed the deal in an earlier message so I won't bore anyone with the details again. I agree twoof1, there are a TON of Pacifica's out there for sale and the deals are pretty darn good. We've driven it for a couple of days now and it seems ok. I think we are going to like it, but time will tell. For whatever it's worth, I'll throw my 2 cents in as to why there are so many of these things sitting on lots all over the country. Basically, it's a new type of vehicle, like a station wagon on steroids. For our changing family, it seemed like a logical progression from a minivan. We don't really like true SUV's and didn't want another minivan, so the Pacifica seemed like a good compromise. The only other couple of vehicles that compare to it are the FX45 and the Murano. Chrysler gave us a deal easily $110 a month lower on payments than the Murano. Call these early deals "loss leaders". Just as a comparison, there are just as many unsold Murano's sitting on dealer lots around here as there are Pacifica's, but the Nissan dealers are not taking their lumps early in the game and may end up losing market share in this segment to Chrysler. It's going to take a little time for people to get used to these kinds of cars apparently. We looked at and drove a lot of "real" SUV's and basically, no matter what you do to it, it's still looks like a truck, drives like a truck and gets lousy gas mileage like a truck. So far, the only complaint I have about the Pacifica is that the second row seating should be a 60/40 split bench seat and not two bucket seats, this would make the Pacifica nearly perfect. Gas mileage could use some help too. My only other complaint would be that visibility is a little poorer than our minivan, but in a vehicle like this you sacrifice a little visibility for styling and looks unfortunately. I think in the next several years this segment will get refined, just in time for the lease on this new Pacifica to run out. I'm looking forward to the next several generations of this class of automobile.
