I emailed around to several dealers and all of them gave out similar deals. They all told me that the trucks with the All Star Edition, and the Power Pack Plus had "savings packs" on them, and that's why they had better lease deals on them. I was quoted $246 for a 2wd work truck around the same time, at it had a sticker of $26XXX... But every truck I was quoted with a saver pack on it was in the low $200's. Again, I am in SE Michigan (car country) and most people buy 4x4 trucks, so it doesn't surprise me that they are giving great deals on 2wd trucks around here. Plus, you drive around and look at the dealers around here, and all they have on the lot is trucks! They have to give them away now! I was in a position where I needed a truck, to use as a truck. So I just wanted the best lease deal since it won't be my daily driver. I shopped around, and this is the deal I got. I never asked how or why, because I don't care about anything but the payment. I wasn't really surprised, at the price, but I am used to living in a GM area. My mom drives a $33K trail blazer for like $215 per month, my dad paid $7k under sticker for a basic Impala last year, I paid $21,xxx for a $28K monte SS 6 years ago, our malibu maxx was $17xxx for a $23xxx last year. It's just the deals we get around here.
PLEASE DO NOT LEASE!!!

Ok leasing isn't for me but here is an experience I am going through right now. First off congratulations on being on Edmunds. It is your first step to not getting screwed at the dealership. My wife and I were just starting out and really wanted a Durango. Make and Model could be anything, but we spent hours getting their "Monthly Payment" down. We were so worn out we didn't even really think about things like residual payment, buy out, and what the actual percentage rate was on the lease. Lets just say we love our car but we are in the 11% range, and have a balloon payment of 17,000 due in a year. Normal residual should have been around 12,000.00. We basically got screwed because we didn't know what we were getting our selves into. Let me just say this. Never ever talk about monthly payment. I don't care if you finance through them. I don't care if you pay cash. Just talk about selling price with fees included. Talk like you want to pay cash. They will be eager to drop the price. Your best bet if you can get it is to finance through your local credit union or bank. Then buy it out right although right now 2004 deals through Chevy offer 6K cash back or 1.9% for 72 months. Not bad, except get them to agree on the price first then talk about finance. That way they can't just slip the 6k back to you as though it was their selling price. In the end for the Durango we payed full asking price for a 2000 model. It isn't bad, but I am kicking my self at the lack of education. Now I just want to dump it and get a Trail Blazer of Explorer. I am not sure which is better. Although the interior of the Chevy seems nicer than the Explorer, but not Quite as nice as the Envoy or Mountaineer, which are just souped up versions of the previously mentioned vehicles. Just think of it this way. Leasing is like renting a car and then you dump it and start over. If you plan on wanting it longer than 3 years then buy it.

I've posted this somewhere before, but will post again so you don't have to search. I'm in the 'Meet the Owners' if you want to check the specs on my truck. I pull a 26' Trail-Lite 7260 travel trailer, 4400 lbs empty, near 6000 lbs when loaded down. Most times I don't even notice it is back there unless I'm pulling up a steep grade. I use the 'Tow Haul', which brings my gas mileage down, but I've never got less than 9 MPG with a head wind and hills. My avg is 11 MPG when pulling the camper. The suspension can definitely handle the load and I believe the drive train can too. Currently at 63,000 miles and running strong. Can't give any advice on the Ford, never owned one. Hope that helps.
