2010 Equinoxee ROCKS !!
by eequinoxee on Mon Oct 05 22:08:53 PDT 2009
I purchased a 2010 Equinox six weeks ago.. The list price was $27,050. I was able to get deductions for my GMCard ($4550), credit union member ($250), ca$h for Clunkers ($4500- 2000 Dodge Durango), and the dealer took off another $500 or so, total deductions from list price was approx $9800. I did all this a day before the clunker program ended, and with the Durango worth about $1,000 (my son modified it, raised the body, huge wheels and tires, off roaded, burnt out the electronics such as radio, defrost, etc.- generally dogged the Durango) I was very eager to finalize deal, plus only a couple Equinoxes avail in DC area by then. I guess I could have gotten a little bit better deal, but not worth the risk of losing clunker cash.. I guess I may have left a few dollars on the table, but with all the deductions I got, I was ready, willing and did the deed. I am very, very happy... if anyone wants a good dealer in DC area, Jack Winegartner Chevrolet in Fort Washington, MD did a great job for me. what a great vehicle..funny, dont know whether to call it a car, wagon, truck, SUV... my Equinox rides great, perfect on a long distance trip, good for around town too. I have the 3.0 engine>> wanted the 4 cyl but there was only one Equinox within 30 miles when I purchased mid August 2009. Moonroof, upgraded stereo system, great seats, the interior colors and design are fantastic. My MPG was approx 24 mpg on the long distance trip, mostly freeways for 600 mi, but the wife drives like a jack rabbit, kept downshifting the 6 speed tranny every time she mashes the gas peddle down (sorry honey, no finesse!!) My around town milage is 21.6 mpg. Not too bad, but I am hoping it improves (only 2k miles). (Comparable in weekly cost to my luxury import car @ 25 mpg w/high test gas). This beats the 12 mpg Dodge Durango (2000) we $-4-clunkered in. Anyone looking to purchase a CR-V, Ford Edge, any Chrysler product, or needing to easily transport up to 5 adults at a time, should test the Equinox. I am very happy with my Equinoxee. Best features for me: 1. Size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. 2. Great job on exterior and interior design. Cabin is very pleasing to my eye with color/layout. 3. Decent gas milage for vehicle this size. 4. Adjustable rear seat with tilt.. very nice. 5. Great ride. I feel very safe, I like all the air bags- hope I dont need them. My complaints in case GM is listening: 1. I like to drive with arm on window sill> uncomfortable for me. The curve of door is too sharp by the window. 2. Radio controls should be in steering wheel. 3. Should have fog lights standard on all trim levels. 4. I hate daytime running lights. 5. I dont like doors auto unlocking when drive placed in Park. 6. I would like master door lock/unlock button on front doors not in center of dash. Thats it. I really like the car, and I am glad I purchased the Equinox, but as with anything, there could be some positive changes. I have not driven my 2005 Mercedes C230 since getting the Equinox !! I really like this ride.
Re: Supplier Discount on 2010 [greeneyespsu]

We're debating between the Nissan Rogue and the Equinox. I'm disappointed that there are no financing incentives on the Equinox. Has anyone heard if they are going to release any financing incentives? 6.9% is steep, we could probably get 5% from our credit union, but still this is a consideration. How did your boyfriend get supplier pricing? I know we were eligible due to our credit union membership for supplier pricing on GMC vehicles, would the same apply to the Equinox? Has anyone had a positive experience buying an Equinox or Rogue in the metropoliatan Washington DC area?

I am not sure where you are seeing this kind of pricing. I went to ebaymotors myself today (the 29th), typed 2009 Malibus and checked for new ones, and I found exactly three Malibus less than $18.6k. One had nearly 500 miles on it, the other two well over 1,000 miles. This was not even a geographic search - it was nationwide. I am in western NY and if you offered 17.5 for a 2009 1LT here, you'd be escorted off the dealership lot by security. Too many classified ads and other pricing which started in newspapers makes a lot of assumptions when it comes to GM cars. The bottom line price is good only if: 1) You are trading in a lease. 2) You are putting down $2-3k for a down payment or trade 3) You are a member of the armed services. 4) You are buying a car from the same dealer you bought the last one from. That's because that price is valid only when you meet all of the four above conditions. Oh, and usually that price is good for the white or black car. I generally ignore these kinds of "ads" and "sales" in the newspaper and try and focus on the invoice price minus rebates and then work from there to argue over dealer profit. The "red tag" pricing deal also has some of our dealers saying the negotiation is already done for you in the price. That's not usually true with most, of course, but they are using that in their arguments. Another hurdle to overcome. We have dealers locally that are simply not going to lose money just to move a car. They will tell you honestly they cannot do business on your terms and will themselves end the negotiations and show you the door. I think the marketplace in different areas and the costs of doing business can make a lot of difference in pricing. My experience has been, in this area, you can usually get a GM dealer to do a deal for $200-400 over invoice (factoring in rebates as well), but that's about it. I see in suburban DC and Virginia lower pricing on some vehicles than is possible in this market, but then it comes down to convenience and time as to whether it's worth it to you. I despise car shopping because I hate the games and the nonsense. I probably am not getting the best possible deal I could, if I bought my car from a dealer 100 miles away I spent days or weeks trying to argue down a few hundred bucks, but it's just not worth the time, aggravation, and stress to me. I don't buy base, which is often where some of the mass market deal competition is. I will walk into one or two dealerships with the invoice price (note that with GM, some of the supplier/employee discount pricing does NOT work with GM Card points unless you have their special GM Family & Friends card) and armed with the rebates, and then argue over how much more they'll get from me for profit. And then I'll say no to the finance guy who will try and pad extras, and will arrange for my own financing in advance and let him or her try and beat it if they can so I don't find my loan rate jacked up. And then I'll be glad it's over and done with.
